Quote from: Fortnight on 24 November, 2023, 07:47:24 PMWorth considering that the Dan Dare Corporation might have ownership of Doomlord as IP in addition to the printed material/licensing. So whilst they won't have any ownership of the photographic representation of the mask, costume, hands or ring, they might have it of the name.

Yep. I was only referring to his fizzog. Using the mask in conjunction with the name would almost certainly cause a bit more of a problem.

Quote from: BadlyDrawnKano on 24 November, 2023, 03:46:46 PMI think the Doomlord mask idea would have been fantastic, though I'm not sure where we'd stand copyright wise on that front, though I guess if you own the mask it would have been okay to include it (plus it would be a bit mean of the Dan Dare Corporation to take legal action given that all profits are going to Cancer Research).

Seeing as how the mask was originally bought "off the shelf" and not specifically made for the Eagle story, I don't think the Dan Dare Corporation would really be in a position to do anything about it.

He had absolutely sod all to do with it, aside from serving as the inspiration for multiple elements of its look and storyline, right down to that logo font.

Can't imagine why anyone would ever think that...

Quote from: Funt Solo [R] on 14 November, 2023, 05:02:59 AM...when you could find the original YouTube Gold thread so that you could post this: The Beach Boys sing "Hurt"

As much as I generally hate "A.I.", I can't quite bring myself to dislike Johnny Cash being brought back from the dead to cover Taylor Swift songs when it sounds like this.

Quote from: JayzusB.Christ on 31 October, 2023, 10:18:55 PMI suppose the only Buster artist I really remember standing out as an individual was the guy that did Sweeney Toddler, and all those EEC smelly sock mountains, wind-up chattering teeth factories, and sound effects that said things like 'short, fat hairy legs going 90 to the dozen'.  When he took over as the artist on the actual Buster strip, a fairly nondescript strip instantly became a brilliant one.

I know he's a much-lauded illustrator these days, but his name escapes me yet again  :(

Tom Paterson, ironically enough borrowing some of (original Sweeny artist), Leo Baxendale's shtick.

Quote from: JayzusB.Christ on 31 October, 2023, 07:17:56 PMWell, we probably all started reading the progs without even considering who wrote and drew them.  For me at the time, it was like thinking about who wrote and drew Mustapha Million.
 - it just never occurred to me.

Slowly I began to realise that I was a fan, and these things were becoming important.  Even still, I remember thinking John Wagner wasn't as good at Dredd as TB Grover used to be, me daft eejit, me.

I've seen loads of folk saying this over the years, but I've always thought of the artists as individuals whose styles I've instantly recognised even when I haven't known their names. So yep, I may not have been aware who drew Mustapha Million, but I could tell it was the same bloke who drew Buster and Creepy Comix. I also preferred some artists over others, but weirdly don't remember ever really disliking anything to any great degree.

I do remember when I was little trying to emulate the style of "the bloke who draws Bananaman", who was probably my favouritey favouritist, but I didn't discover his name was John Geering until a few years after his death.

I didn't think about writers as much unless they were specifially credited, 'cos it was more difficult to tell them apart. Obviously when I knew who wrote things it became easier to form preferences.
