Through a combination of Ebay and scouring various second hand record shops, I'm slowly replacing a lot of Rock/Metal LP's/CD's from the 80's, that I had to sell when I was an impoverished student.
I've redicovered some forgotten gems. Quite a few of the said albums fall under the Sleaze/Hair metal category. Notable titles include Love/Hate's near masterpiece, 'Black Out In The Red Room'-listening to it 20 years on, you get the sense that the band really should of been as big as Guns 'n' Roses, if grunge hadn't pretty much killed of the scene. The Electric Boy's, 'Funk-O-Metal-Carpet Ride is another notable release, with it's funky groves, fat bass sound and some nice Beatlesesque melodies.
Salty Dog's eponymous album is a slab of Zeppelinesque goodness and a real treasure that I discovered on a recent trip to Birmingham, in a secondhand record store, for the princely sum of £1, was a pristine vinyl copy of Saraya's debut album, featuring some uber powerful female vocals, in a Joan Jett style with some real catchy hooks.
Also been rekindling my appreciation of all things Megadeth, having just purchase Mustaine's latest opus, 'Endgame'.
It's like 1987 all over again!
