I don't have a drinking problem.  I drink, I get drunk, I fall over.  No problem!

also ANY excuse to haul out a Mastodon Thin Lizzy cover :D

Oh ya beauty!!!  Not heard this before.  That's a fantastic fusion of two of my favourite bands!!!  Glad to hear the Mastodon drummer not going too mad with his jazz fills this time.  ;)

If you want an UTTERLY baffling Floyd cover as well modprog lot Astra have got you covered:

It's like they've picked up a cover and ran off with it, quite mad.

Oh man, this stuff is GOLD!!  I loved the hell out of that one mate.  You're right though - it's only when the lyrics cut in you realise 'oh yeah, this is a cover'.

Sure I've done these before but off the top of my head I always go for 'Superstar' by Sonic Youth

and Flaming Lip's cover of Kylie's 'Can't get you out of my head'

Oh and Johnny Cash's astonishing ability to do 'Mercy Seat' better than the stunning Nick Cave original

I'll need to give all these links a proper watch later on. Cash did some great covers, seem to remember his version of Soundgarden's 'Rusty Cage' being really good too.

Never been a fan of Black Sabbath (I know, it's not cool to say that, I've just never really been keen on Ozzy's voice) but I have always loved War Pigs mainly thanks to Faith No More's cover being on a VHS tape I had as a kid - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhIMf61NeB8

In fact, they've been responsible for a lot of cracking covers over the years. I was at one of their gigs a couple years back where twice during the show they broke off mid-song to play a lovely rendition of the Eastenders theme (found a video of it here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xAU-9flSCQ#t=148).

The first time was funny but the fact they did it twice during pretty heavy songs was just genius, totally broke me.

Bizarrely enough Keef, I dug out my copy of Faith No More's greatest hits yesterday, still sound as fresh as the day I first heard 'em. I remember seeing 'em at the NEC in '92 when L7 came on first, playing Enter Sandman and singing the Pistol's "Bodies" over the top - worked brilliantly! Halfway through FNM's show, they stopped and playing a sterling cover of The Commodore's "Easy". My, how we laughed. Next thing you know it's their biggest hit. And we knew it was all done as a pisstake.

Anyway, I'm going for Warren Zevon (and 3/4 of REM) doing "Raspberry Beret". Rockin.

The first one that always springs to mind for me is Hendrix's 'All Along the Watchtower'; the first time Dylan heard that he must considered resigning!

That said, my all time favourite, awesomest cover in the whole history of everything is Cake's funked up version of 'I Will Survive'. Take a song, make it your own!
