I'm on my holidays in Tenerife. All I've eaten so far today has been sandwiches (though one of them was a toasted club one and was fecking lovely).

But I'm inspired now. Time for some squid or something.

Btw ruddy hell, Funt, I never knew you were an expat!

Real impact... we are all left with the mystery of what those white markings actually are (well I am looking on my mobile)...

...I sometimes think I miss the main thrust of this thread..
All there in the text:
Quote"Superdry ice lollies polo shirt"
Though there are other things in the text, on which I shall not comment.
QuoteI regularly went 'south of the border'.

QuoteDensely packed with plenty of sausage. They also had a most welcome hot sauce dispenser.
When you read these on their own their true meaning is sooo obvious.

Down Mexico Way

As our subscriber has noted Mexican food is all the rage 'round these parts and we got in the fiesta mood by visiting a nice Mexican restaurant in Snoqualmie.

This place was totally authentic as it has Mexico v Argentina on the TV and lots of offbeat offering some wrapped in banana leaves.

To start we shared this monster pile of nachos...

These were good but maybe a bit too crispy for my tastes. The winner here was the salsa bar where you could fill up small tubs with various types of red and green delights. One was red hot but I had to eat it all as a sign warned of penalties against those who took salsa beyond their salsa eating capabilities.

Next up was this tasty offering of fajitas :

This was lovely with tender beef and a nice pile of refried beans. Only two tortillas though - they were done before the plate was half cleared!

Sweets For Your Sweet

We stayed in a few motels and this was one of the better ones - The Atomic Motel in Astoria. It was all 50's themed down to the receptionist who looked like she stepped off the set of Grease. They offered breakfast but it was just do-nuts and coffee. Fine with me!

Astoria is where they filmed The Goonies and they had this pub with sea lions underneath that you could see through the glass floor. No, I was not pissed.

The do-nut was never going to hold me so we went down the road to a diner where we got some kick ass pancakes:

I got fruit toppings because I'm healthy. I think the waitress said the brown stick things were chocolate pasta - inedible what ever they were.

Italian Jobs

Always one for the fancy meals here's me with a pie with half and half toppings :

This was in a place called Bear Pizza which we stayed at also. It was like a lodge at the side of the road and only had three rooms. It also had pinball and each room came with a $10 pizza credit.

This big mo-pad wheel was very nice and to our shame we didn't polish off the lot - I blame the side salad. My side has chilli beef and jalapenos the wife's something more cissy.

The second pizza of the trip (actually the first but remember we're doing a non-linear narrative here) was at the Salish Lodge  which was used for the exterior shots of The Great Northern on Twin Peaks. This was nice but I think I preferred the first one. The base was good but the BBQ sauce they drizzled on it was a bit sweet for my tastes.

The chicken and basil were good however and this one was polished off in its entirety.

So is that Adidas badge very VERY shiny or do you have one of those Tony Stark Arc Reacter thingies running you now?

In short, I have one of those Tony Stark arc reactors running through me now.

Seeing as it's 8am let's have a look at some breakfast offerings :

This was a hotel in Yakima that was a bit, let's say, utilitarian. As we were unloading the car a school bus appeared and a group of about 40 migrant workers trooped off and checked in. No problem with that but I thought my $100 a night might grant a bit more exclusivity!

It did come with breakfast, although it was a cafeteria help yourself affair. Good grub though - nice sausages and scrambled egg and a tasty potato and peppers stir up.

This was another 'help yourself, breakfast included' motel job, this time in a town called 'The Dalles'. I asked the receptionist how it was pronounced and she said 'The Dales' (as in Yorkshire). I said the second 'L' was false advertising.

This was my first encounter with the home made waffle machine. Your pour your batter (careful) in the griddle and clamp it in for 150 seconds. You then drown its tastelessness is thick syrup. Yum!

**BONUS EATS**

The wife's photos have been recovered from the cloud or something so here is the companion piece to the earlier Funyuns photo.

This was a lovely big peach that we got at Pike Place Market. It cost about $4 but was lovely especially when paired with Cava on a hot sunny roof terrace

I showed my wife this thread and she immediately went off and made waffles.

Aye, since 2008. I like to think of myself as an invader.

Great Northern, Great Breakfast

Back at the Salish Lodge for breakfast.

They have their own bee hives and are rightly proud of their honey- one of my breakfast favourites at the best of times. They have a ceremony at breakfast where they give you a scone and hen a staff member drizzles honey on it from a great height. A nice bit of theatre andas a bonus you get a scone covered in jam, honey and cream before you even open the breakfast menu!

For my breakfast I chose this number :

I don't remember what it was called and as it was a special it's not on their online menu. It was like chilli but with chick peas. It had two poached eggs in there and lots of rocket and sour dough toast. I mashed it all up and scoffed the lot. No lunch that day. OK, maybe a small one.

Mac & Me

'Mac and cheese' is a stable of virtually every menu you peruse in North America and that's fine with me. Never the same dish twice and you can always jazz it up with sauces and extras.

Here's me with a nice offering at 'Dunns Famous ' (never heard of them either but Tripadviser was favourable) in Vancouver.

This was a good effort but the garlic bread was just melted garlic butter on a baguette. Those people in the background gave the waitress some lip and were chased out. She was quite formidable and got a good tip from me lest I feel her wrath also.

This second offering a week later, albeit in the same but freshly laundered shirt, is at the Radisson Red where we stayed in Portland. This was nice and came with the pulled pork already blended in as part of the dish :

It was a smaller portion and I was glad to have ordered the accompanying fries in their little grill box as an extra.

JayzusB.Christ

It's my last night in Tenerife and I was looking forward to a nice beer and a sizzling plate of squid.  But a massive power cut has shut down every  restaurant in town, so I practically had to beg the staff of my apartment complex to let me pay for some ukewarm buffet shite intended for some visiting basketball team,

You don't know how lucky you have it, Watson.

You make your own luck in the eating game!

In honour of Jayzus' hobo living let's have some...

Alfresco Eats

This was a 'Summer Party Night' a short train ride from Vancouver. We had to queue for about 40 minutes to get in and then pay $Ca10 to get in for the privilege of spending our hard earned. There were a few stalls and side shows but after getting fed we spent less time wandering about than we did in the queue. Fortunately there was a big casino nearby and the wife won a hundred bucks on an Anchorman fruit machine - Whammy!

This was a decent Cajun chicken in a tub of rice - about $8. The pink drink is watermelon juice and it was too sweet to drink.

Next up is a tasty do-nut from Voodoo Doughnut in Portland :

It was always in the plan to go here after I saw the place on the first series of Man V Food years ago. This was another queue but only about ten minutes or so. This bad boy was about $4.95 - coffee was extra. It was filled full of jam and had a pretzel spear through his heart. Lovely. At least that's what the man on my shoulder told me.
