Good morning Wolfie,

I am so sorry for your loss and the pain you are feeling.

This time of year can be really hard on people especially if you don't have a strong support network anyway and doubly so on those who have experienced a loss.

What you are going through and have gone through sounds completely overwhelming.

I am at a loss at what to say other than . please keep going on ..

Triangle of Sadness - From the director of The Square and Force Majeure. This time he's examining the value of beauty or is he making fun of wealthy people? Great movie either way.

The Mouth of Madness -  Wow! Maybe one of John Carpenter's lesser known movies but terrific nonetheless.

You won't be alone - not sure if I'm mentioned this already but one of the best movies I've seen this year.

Sure but if you can stick it out you can think about getting a new car in the new year. Maybe a trip to see your Ukrainian friend when things stabilise? Or even some savings in the bank ?

I have worked in customer service roles and it's really hard to be nice to people when they are being abusive to you. You know of course it's not you personally but often as the person on the front lines you're getting it in the face.

I found that if I didn't get adversarial with people on the phone and instead said 'OMG I'm so sorry to hear that, I'm going to do everything I can to help you today' even if I didn't mean it but sounded like I did or even a 'Yes I would be annoyed about that too, let's see if we can fix that real quick' that it made that kind of work less stressful for me. You're still going to have the odd CU Next Tuesday but the odd one is more manageable than every other one.

Is this helpful?

Ah ok I get you now. Actually as far as I know
syphilis existed in the New World in a milder form which became mutated when introduced to Europeans who brought it back with them. There is an analogy there for White Europeans who took what the Natives had and made it worse, corrupted everything they came into contact with etc
I loved The English, would absolutely recommend but I would disagree with the person who said it was better than Godless.

I'm also blown way by Season 2 of The White Lotus <chefs kiss>

Shining Girls is not bad either ...

Also watched Under the Banner of Heaven .. it was ok .. bit formulaic. Great book though.

Have you seen the Astartes shorts that are on youtube?

That started off as a fan tribute but I gather the person behind it was brought on by GW to help start a cinematic subdivision for 40k. Not sure what happened after that ...

This could be great if Amazon are willing to show the grim dark in all its awfulness.

Interesting comment - what do you mean what happened to America?

I'm not up on American history but I understand that the Pilgrims left Europe to go to the US because they were religious fundamentalists and wanted to force their way of life onto everyone else (who weren't having it) so they set off to found a new Godlier country elsewhere.

As more people arrived to exploit the continents natural resources they found the Native tribes to be an inconvenience and committed several genocides in order to secure the land for themselves. They convinced themselves that since they were racially, culturally and religiously superior to the indigenous peoples that this was Gods plan and the fact they successed was proof of his approval.

Hasn't America always been this way?

The reveal of "the villain/driving force" is also really well done. Like all good twists it's surprising yet logical. And is it also a metaphor for what happened to America?

There is  a terrible cold / flu going about at the moment. I have had it for two weeks now and had to get an antibiotic from the doctor - this thing has legs ... but I do feel much better and I have a week off at Xmas so at least I have that to look forward to.

Jade that doesn't sound normal about your car at all and it sounds like it's time to trade it in and get a new one.

Re: your job. It sounds like you're very anxious about your performance. Try and figure out what's making you anxious and how you can alleviate it. We know you're in a high stress job (the staff turnover rate you mentioned is a huge red flag) so you will need to come up with some coping strategies.

Why do you think you're going to lose your job and what actions can you take to prevent it?

You know you can always quit?

I really don't think I'm cut out for this job, there's so much to try and remember, so much to take in and the potential for a major mistake is just too much.

Jade go easy on yourself, you're not expected to remember it all after only 3 months. Also, making mistakes is part of the learning process. They are going to happen and it's not going to be the end of the world.

@ Paddy, any news on the homefront?

What great news to wake up to! I'm so glad you're back TJM.

Suffering isn't a competition and your struggles and the effect they have on you are just as valid as anyone else's. It sounds like you have an awful lot on your plate right now; just remember that we're all here for you and feel free to vent about anything anytime.

Well that's that until 2024.

I have to admit that although it's flawed I really enjoyed it and look forward to Season 2.

Yes to Sydney Sweeney in a sci-fi movie; not only is she absolutely gorgeous she's also a really talented actress as well.

But NO to remakes / reboots / sequels / prequels / trilogies.

Can we please have some original content please??

There must be thousands of sci-fi stories written in the past decades; can't they just have a crack at one?

Am I the only one not excited about this?

It seems to me to be an attempt to Marvelise the DC cinemaverse.

Will we go from a dark Snyderverse to a Gunn-gagverse? I don't think that's an improvement.

It's a shame really; the characters deserve SO much better.

Thanks Dark Jimbo.

I did that too - well just for Prontypridd and West (?) Glamorgan (where his profile says he's based) but I don't know his name so I was looking for someone with the initials TJM.

Hopefully he'll be back to us soon.

@ Jade, how is your new job going?
