Whilst waiting to start Island of the Lizard King I've been playing Nightshift (not Nightshirt) as recommended by SBT upthread. It's quite a different experience to FF and a lot trickier - I like the emphasis on puzzles rather than combat / shopping lists of items, and it's an atmospheric experience. It is bloody hard though. I've been getting lost a lot, so I've ended up downloading the map from the authors website and I'm going to start using that to take notes.

Much easier with a map and notes - I'm in the
victorian hospital
now but this place is huge. It's definitely a book with a lot of puzzles and I like that. It's also very much a horror work - some pretty grotesque stuff in here. The cat is useful though!

I'm going to finish this and then play Scorpion Swamp.

I'm broadly in the The Xmas Prog is good enough camp too, but I'd also like to see stuff like wordsearches or quizzes in said Xmas Prog - bridge the gap between annual and festive prog, so to speak.

I didn't like Dandridge either. I liked the ghost aspect, but not the character or execution.
Orlok had some flaws, which other posters have covered, but it's my preferred thrill from this pair.

Thistlebone felt like a modern classic almost from the start. Gets my vote here.

Fuckin' voodoo magic, man!

Predator 2 is terrific. It has aged badly in many respects and almost every single character in it is pretty reprehensible: Harrigan is a brutal macho thug, Lambert is a complete sleazebag, Keyes is just Gary Busey - but it's manic pace and over the top antics make it hugely enjoyable. In particular Garey Busey, Bill Paxton and Danny Glover overact like crazy and the scenes with King Willie and the Predator on the subway are fantastic.
I also didn't like it when it came out as I wanted something more like Predator, but in later years have come to really love it.

It seems most of us are pretty old here.

Good article, this - thanks for linking it. Can't disagree with anything it says.

That Bash Street Kids thing is so puerile. Imagine being the sort of person who would get so angry about a childs comic being more relevant to the people who read it (children).

The post here has been absolutely shocking since Christmas - parcels are running ok, presumably because they take up space at the depot and need to be moved out quick, but letters and the like arrive generally a week or two after you'd expect them.
It's a symptom of the terrible decline of Royal Mail under the Tories and there's very little I can do about it, but it has made me re-evaluate a couple of things I'm subscribed to and cancel them, which is good I guess? I'll stick with the Prog subscription till it is due to expire and then see how I feel: I loved the little ritual of getting it in the post most Saturdays, but if it's going to arrive two days after it hits the shelves I can buy it in my local newsagent and means I can skip the odd week where there's nothing on I want to read.

The Order for me although the strength of it's earlier episodes are carrying it somewhat. Nothing wrong with Outlier, but John M Burns on art and all the early historical craziness in The Order is great: the first series especially was brilliant.

Now all the info has been released this is looking really good. I'm away over the weekend but hoping it'll remain available online somewhere for catch up viewing purposes.

Mine is consistently a week late nowadays..it usually arrives the Friday following the Saturday it should have arrived (if that makes sense) although sometimes it's later.
I assume its not Rebellions fault, but it means I probably wont bother subscribing next year and will just buy locally. The webshop voucher is great, but it does lead.me to buy stuff I probably shouldn't.
