Books & Comics / Batmans
06 January, 2011, 10:18:54 AM
Batman appears to have five ongoing series since the end of Return of Brucie. I'm loving Batman Inc and that's where the main gist of the story is coming from, but I wouldn't mind a bit more Batman action too but I'm a bit lost off. Is it back to Detective being erm, detectivey, and Batman more superheroics? And I'm struggling to see what point the continuation of Batman and Robin serves, or exactly what Batman The Dark Knight is at all. Maybe my personal prejudice but it looks like it's fallen through a time hole from 1992. And where is Tim Drake in all this? He was noticable by his absence in Batman's proto-army in Inc. 1.

If anyone's reading them can give me a bit of a catchup I'd appreciate it.

Events / Leeds Alternative Comics Fair
17 September, 2010, 09:09:32 PM
A ludicrously late heads up for the Leeds Alternative Comics Fair, which is on tomorrow!

It's at A Nation of Shopkeepers, between 12 and 6.
I'll be there if anyone fancies a pint...

My beloved Judge Dredd mug broke today. I've had it nearly 15 years. It was the Penalty for drinking coffee- 5 years in the iso-block! one.

It was my cup of choice for so many years I genuinely feel bereft. :(

Off Topic / My 2000th post!

Blimey! I'm not the most prolific of posters but I thought I'd celebrate :)
I've been on this board an astonishing seven years now, and made some wonderful friends and learned an awful lot, so I just wanted to say thanks to you all. I genuinely love this message board. It's where Solar Wind was born for a start!

It's my birthday tomorrow and I've got the Christmas prog and Meg, the latest Batman and Robin and Kim Newman's The Bloody Red Baron to read, and I get to spend it with the woman I love, and contemplate how in a scant few months I am going to be a father.
Sorry for the soppy attack but I don't know how all this has happened to a pillock like me.

Grud Bless you all,
Ben

EDIT: Wow, I'm now an Evil Cyborg!

Help! / It's A Wonderful Life
15 December, 2009, 09:54:32 PM
Hiya gang,

I need a screengrab from It's A Wonderful Life and all me DVDs are in storage, if anyone can help I'd really appreciate it!
I need an image from near the end where Jimmy Stewart is running through the streets shouting Merry Christmas! Preferably the bit where he's running down the main street and shouts at the people across the street.
It's for an allegedly funny Christmas card :) If you can help thanks a million in advance.

Cheers,
satch

Games / SquaxxBox Live
28 November, 2009, 09:48:10 PM
Ochs' tale of online woe has made me think those of us on XBox Live should organise a board gaming night, anyone up for it? I'm mostly playing Left 4 Dead 2 demo and Gay Tony right now, but I'm up for a game of anything really.
My gamertag is MagicBeanz. Do not attempt to beat my Geometry Wars high score :)

Hope you don't mind me pimping my new webcomic The Spine Chillers. I've been working on it since I got back from Hi-Ex and the first episode is up today, with a new one every friday.
Cheers!

Books & Comics / Green Manor/Cinebooks love
19 February, 2009, 10:33:02 PM
Pardon me while I shill for Cinebooks for a minute, but man do they publish some good comics.
Their table at Hi-Ex seemed to do well, and I saw a lot of copies of I.R.$. and the Edgar P. Jacobs books under peoples arms.
Green Manor is the one I got, a collection of short stories based around a Victorian gentlemen's club. It's where you would go for a drink if you were a Sherlock Holmes villain :)
Cracking tales of mystery and murder with more than a hint of GK Chesterton, I'd highly recommend it.
And it smells awesome.

Film & TV / Hammer DVDs
12 February, 2009, 01:48:07 PM
I've noticed that quite a few of the earlier Hammer Horror's seem to be ridiculously out of print and expensive on DVD, especially Curse of Frankenstein. Does anyone know if there is a boxset or re-release coming out or anything, or should I just hit Region One?

Film & TV / 24
12 January, 2009, 04:07:43 PM
Season 7 starts tonight on Sky 1, I'm really looking forward to it, the TV movie seemed like a return to form after the disastrous, shark-bothering season 6. We shall see!

Games / Xmas games
26 December, 2008, 11:52:12 PM
I did well, I got Fallout 3 and Left 4 Dead, I'm loving them both. Fallout 3 is pushing all my Cursed Earth, Mad Max, Skynet and even Cormac McCarthy buttons, it's bloody brilliant.
Left 4 Dead is massive fun, I was online last night and had some great games on versus mode. I'm going on again after the Two Ronnies is finished :)
Any Xbox Livers who fancy a game my gamertag in MagicBeanz

Also got The Club for a tenner in the ruins of my local Woolies but haven't tried it yet. Is it this one that Grennie wrote?

Hope Santa brought you all some scintillating software!
