Admittedly I have no idea how close the Rebellion offices are to the River Thames in Oxford but it would be a huge disaster if all the old Tooth artwork in the 'Vaults' got flood damaged.
Not to mention whether it'd disrupt production of the prog.
Or am I worrying for nothing?
Link: "People have also been advised to avoid travelling
Nat...There's no art in the vaults..only film...
:-)
Send Bill Savage!
So they tell us to flee but avoid traveling?
Where is all the original art nowadays then?
under my bed.
Lol! You know, I wouldn't be surprised ;p
Can they swim ?
Well going by Disaster 1990, within an hour of the floods people will start dressing like Nazis and starting their own flooded kingdom of hatred. Lets hope Bill Savage can help!
Seriously though hope everyone at Rebellion are safe and well.
Apologies for that flippant remark.I forgot they are based in Oxford.
Yeah I saw Oxford on the news and worried about Tharg and his droids.
Considering peoples lives have been ruined, it may seem a bit frivolous to worry about the prog, but it's obviously catastophic for businesses as well as people.
I'll be projecting positive thoughts.
Believe me, I phoned my family in Gloucestershire to check they were ok before I posted this.
It's been kind of wierd seeing Gloucester under as much water as it is - I used to live there many years ago and I recognised many of the places they were showing on the news. That place hasn't had this much news coverage since Fred West was caught, though I'm not surprised it's ended up like this, the area just outside of the city floods every Spring.
I heard a ruimour that a lot of the very early artwork was lost when the basement flooded when 2000ad was based in central London . It may be untrue but fancy storing paperwork in a basement. I hope i am wrong about this.
I don't think it's all that frivolous really. Sure, I wouldn't like to lose my home and all my possessions in a flood, but I don't have anything that insurance money couldn't replace either (although it would be massively inconvenient etc.). But a unique archive of art would presumably be imposssible or next to impossible to replace. I don't think it makes us all heartless bastards to be concerned. And "it's just a comic" doesn't cut any ice with me: the principle is no different from Paris flooding and somebody asking if the Mona Lisa is safe (and I've had considerably more pleasure from looking at 2000AD than I've had from that).
Sincerely,
Heartless Bastard #8.
Well I'd hate to have said that, and some boarder returns to the board weeks after having lost their home and all their possessions.
I was going to put a post up asking if anyone was affected, but then relaised if they were, they'd have more pressing concerns than message boards.
This is all due to shifting weather patterns and a drainage system that can't cope. If we have permanent weather change, I can see a pretty warped future. I'm sue Godon ennie is mumbling 'I told you so' as he sits on his throne made of Rain Dog Gaphic Novels.
My family are just down river (down the road doesn't seem appropriate at the moment) from Oxford and the Botley and Abingon roads were flooded into the city.
Predictions last night were for peak at Midday today, but the last couple of reports are suggesting that levels are starting to fall already.
I'd be suprised if the Nerve Center got flooded though...
Surely the Command Module can simply take off and fly to a dry location?
Oh and this thread's made it onto todays LITG...
LITG?
"You know, on a TV show a few years ago, with hypothetical political events occurring and contestants choosing policy decisions, Rebellion boss Jason Kingsley made the decision to let prisoners in a fictitious prison drown."
If I was Tharg and his chums, I'd be worried by that.
Anyway, hello people from LITG!
There were floods in Lewes years ago and that summer was the worst ever as it just wouldnt stop raining here. What is particularly stupid is all the housebuilding going on.A lot of it is being built on flood plains.Stupid or what ? not to mention the fact that the houses are rubbish architecturally and substandard construction but thats another story.
I remember Shrewsbury flooded once as well.
I've been wondering about Rebellion too. Mind you thats what you get for living in the other place :P
I had totally forgotten:
Rebellion boss Jason Kingsley made the decision to let prisoners in a fictitious prison drown."
But now it's been mentioned I seem to remember it wasn't such a bad decision. It'd just show the government not to build on flood plains ;)
We're having a water shortage and your having a flood.
Its always either too little or too much these days.Near where i live there is a natural spring that just seems to go all year round regardless of rainfall. It is drinkable as i have drunk from it lots of times but there is a notice saying This is not drinking water but they always say that anyway.
title of this thread made me think Tooth might've been going the way of unwanted kittens. Hope every one's alright and hope all the droids have sufficient insulation that they can still work in the wet with out fritzing out.
As Thryllseekyr said we're in drought over here and could probably do with some of that rain.
CU Radbacker
According to BBC some residents of Oxford have been evacuated, but presumably that's a low lying area.
More importantly for me (sorry Tharg) I'm off to see how my brother's area is doing.
Cheers :)
Paul
The office is fine and some way up from the river so we should be sorted.
Your Graphic Novel editor and his Missus weren't so lucky however. We're now living with friends as we wait for the waters to subside. We did manage to save all our books and DVDs though.
Nice to hear you're okay Jon.
Bolt-01
Sory to hear that Jonathan, it's an awful thing to happen to anyone. Hope it clears soon.
Yeah, that's rotten news.
Hope it doesn't take too long to clear up.
Cheers,
Steve

Shit. Sorry to hear that, Jon. At least you managed to save some of your stuff.
Can anyone remember a worse summer than this for weather? We've had crappy Junes and Julys before, but not to this level, where it's rained almost every day.
We'll gladly give you some of our drought in exchnage for a few weeks of rain.
Ah, bloody hell. Hang in there, Jonathan.
Flooding's a common problem here in Perthshire and I've seen its effects on homes. Stay focused, support each other and soon it'll be just a bad memory.
The Government may plan to throw money at this problem, but it's no guarantee of success. Round here we've had huge amounts of flood defences installed since major flooding events in 1991 and 93.
Below is a particularly heartbreaking story from our paper, a few months ago. The council has now agreed the defences were flawed and will probably take action against the contractor.

I can remember a summer just as bad as this summer.I cant remember the exact year but it was the year when Lewes flooded as the river ouse flows through lewes. It rained and rained and rained ........ . It ruined all my work and ruined everyones life in lewes. It was just the same as now only not on such a large scale. It hasnt happened since but they all got over it and life goes on.
It was 1990 when East and West Sussex and Kent flooded because it would not stop raining here . Iyt was just as bad as the flooding that has been going on in Oxfordshire and gloucestershire.
