no problem at all - I cover all sorts of things on the blog that aren't directly 2000AD related (although I know Shaky has drawn Dredd) so I'm reluctant to post about them in the 'General' forum. Instead I'd post them here and hope nobody minds too much

I've missed those before, but they provide a perfect example of why Keith Burns is one of Garth Ennis' go to artists for his war materials. That cover for 'Steel Inferno' is incredible!
-
I like Keith Burns art he and Garth did a Jonny Red for Titan Comics together. I believe he will be on art duties in the Battle Action special as well

Yeah I believe so. The art line-up on the Battle special is so strong.
Trigan Empire volume 4 covers released - inc. one by John M Burns
Jez John M burns is just incredible. I don't think (???) he ever did the strip, but that would have been a thing to behold.
In checking that fact I've seen he's listed as having done a strip / image for something called 'The Spirit of Eisner' in 2017. I'd forgotten he'd done a page in Sean Phillips' passion project - this evening I might have a trip to the nerd cave!

yep, the comics reviews sections are very similar to Comics International but it's the certainty with which things are hyped up that makes me smile now - simpler, more innocent time perhaps?

John Bolton always struck me as an artist who didn't get his due. He's an incredible artist who for some reason was never hailed as one of the best. I will always remember seeing his work in the backup stories in 'Classic X-men' and being simply blown away.

100% agree.
I met him at a signing in Forbidden Planet Dublin back in the 90's (I think he was promoting the lusciously painted Manbat at the time) - received a free sketch.
As amazing as he is, he never seemed the most prolific artist - could be one of the reasons for reduced name recognition.
I must seek out some of his sketch / art books.
-
agree, agree - I can only assume it's his pace which stops him having greater fame

Dez Skinn has used lockdown to write his autobiography - volume 1 (!) is now available
https://boysadventurecomics.blogspot.com/2022/04/sez-dez-volume-1.html
-
Oh now when that's all done that will be a fascinating read. Not sure I'd want to pay £100 for it mind (assuming that it is in 5 parts - Dez does have a LOT to tell).
Given the little I know about Dez the issue will be getting the full picture not just what Dez Sez which I suspect (??) might need a pinch of salts?
-
1) How much do you actually have to pay for this book?
2) Considering the author’s reputation within the comics industry / community, is it actually worth it…?
3) Has anyone here actually ordered this and if so, how long would it (probably) take to arrive? Will it arrive? Does anyone expect it to?
-
all the other books I've ordered from Dez have arrived so, yeah, I'd expect it to arrive. Why wouldn't you expect it to arrive?
I've ordered a copy so I'll let you know how long it takes to arrive.
As to whether it's worth it...that's a rather subjective question, again, once I've read it I'm happy to let you know.
-
Continuing my look at the 'Rivers of London' comic series...this time it's "Night witch" series. If anyone can help identify the cover artists that'd be really great.

https://boysadventurecomics.blogspot.com/2022/04/the-g-bomb-art-by-ron-turner.html

To the horror of many I'm not Ron Turner's biggest fan. I think I've been tainted by those early Dredd's and Rick Random stories feeling so out of place in 2000ad - to my eye. This however is a stunning piece. Out of my price range alas but the colours are so bold and sharp. Just wonderful and evocative of a time when his work was so perfectly in its right context.
-
Completely agree - as a kid I never liked his stuff (not enough detail for me!) but this cover is just fantastic (but out of my price range)

ohhh I'm not aware of these somehow.
Nor I.
The sheer amount of stuff I had to gloss over or ignore in those days due to a limited budget.
It's the ol 30 year dilemma:
1992; Too many comics I want to read - not enough money.
2022; Plenty of disposable cash, very few comics I want to read.

Just do what i do go back and buy all the comics you couldn't afford to read back in the day. They've so elevated in price (in a few cases) it soon sorts out that disposible income problem.

I think it was the only cartoon myself and my sisters could agree to watch together in a 1980's single TV household.
That nostalgia led to a purchase of the very addictive game on the iPad years ago - at one point in 2011 I had the third highest score on the planet. 😆

Have to be honest I've no idea. I've not seen this go up before but give its where its at with 3 days still to go and one would assume there are folks waiting in the wings to snip as well over £300 does seem possible.
-
Aye, I mean of all the variants this one seems the scarcest. I think the only other one that is a bear to track down is the Mazeworld issue which I've only seen the once (and pounced bloody quickly too ...).
The Jock Aliens issue and the Slaine variants are fairly common. Mind you the Flint ABC Warriors variants don't come round too often. Given the three options (red, blue and subscriber double cover) that does seem peculiar.
Not sure if it will go as high as £300 but might brush £200 when all is said and done.

How the heck have I never heard of this, even though I followed A1 just before drifting into my wilderness years AND damn that imagine of Flaming Carrot is just AMAZING!
Thanks as ever Richard.
-
*sigh* I wish I’d had a chance to do something for A1, what a tome. I was too young to ever be involved in Warrior and frankly, not yet cooked enough as an artist to be involved in A1 - but deadline… deadline I HAVE a credit for… (in a Carla Allison strip, though all I contributed was a tiny seed of an idea to John McCrea…)

Wow interesting that with so many BD out there and the anthology format of the title they still went for straight Iznogoud not a mix, though I guess there might be all sorts of rights issues I don't understand.

Ah I am filled with Nostalgia for when you could pick up fanines for 50p a shot - the late 90s and early 00s were my Glory days of hunting these things out and that copy of Hellfire was a Grail find I never did get, along with Masters of Infinity with the Bolland cover (I think!)
There was an eBay seller who came along and started buying them up and reselling them for a 5er a pop and it killed my interest, sadly. Should have persisted!
