Megazine / Suggestions for the floppy
19 June, 2014, 12:30:28 PM
Inspired by the comments in the recent Meg thread I thought I would open one up where folks can say what they would really like to see in future floppies that they bundle with the Meg.

We all know the deal - anything outstanding will get released as a tpb so we are looking at the slightly less popular stories, which still leaves us with some great pickings and is an opportunity to see stories reprinted that never normally would.

To open, I would like to see:

Armoured Gideon
Brigand Doom
Firekind

There have been some subtle adverts about Doctor Who on the Horror Channel for a couple of weeks and I was expecting them to show the Peter Cushing movies.  But its much better than that.  They will be showing classic Doctor Who episodes including some of the best - Genesis of The Daleks and Caves of Androzani.
Happy Days.  :)

It all starts on Good Friday.

News / December Daily Digital Deal
03 December, 2013, 12:44:10 PM
Anyone else notice this in the shop?

"It's a daily digital download discount doozy this month, earthlets, as every day throughout December one digital Graphic Novel, Judge Dredd Megazine or past Xmas issue of 2000 AD will be on sale for either £1.99 or 99p.  Grab your devices and upgrade your thrill-buffer app, terrans - there are thrills demanding to be downloaded!"

Sounds interesting eh?  Today you can get The Pit for just £1.99.

News / 2000Ad on The Register
21 November, 2013, 01:37:49 PM
I thought there was a thread somewhere for posting about 2000AD popping up in other news.  Couldn't find out though so started this.  I was having a lunchtime peruse of the Register, reading about the new Ipad Mini and this image was presented:

It came with the phrase "Keeping Thrill Suckers at bay - at any screen size".  Nice of el Reg to notice the real reason for the Ipad's success - digital thrillpower!

I also noticed the following sentence in the article "The new iPad Mini is a very nice mid-size tablet, but I honestly can't see a reason for Joe Soap to favour one over, say, the Nexus 7, or the Kindle Fire HD or HDX if you don't mind being tied to Amazon.".

Events / MCM BIRMINGHAM COMIC CON & MEMORABILIA 23/24 NOV
15 November, 2013, 02:13:52 PM
So, any midlands-based boarders thinking of going to this next weekend?  It's a bit unfortunate that its on the same weekend as ThoughtBubble.

Was thinking about going to this one myself but they have taken so long to actually tell folks what guests they have that I have now made other plans.

Guest List is out now though - nothing too amazing but there are a few of the Red Dwarf cast and one or two others of interest:

News / Dredd Underbelly One-Shot
04 November, 2013, 01:56:08 PM
Was flipping through the latest Previews and noticed this little beauty:

Publisher: Rebellion/2000 AD
Judge Dredd, Britain's poster child of justice, is seeing a resurgence these days, most recently with the film adaptation Dredd, starring Karl Urban as the titular man himself. The movie has been a long-time-coming with Dredd fans, but now Rebellion continues the momentum with a straight-to-comic sequel.

Following the events of the film, the urban gangs that terrorize Mega City One are as rampant as ever and an influx of mutant bodies are piling up, indicating a possible smuggling operation. With the help of his rookie partner, Psi-Judge Anderson, it's just another day for Judge Dredd on the toughest police beat of the future.

Written and illustrated by veteran 2000 AD/Judge Dredd regulars, Arthur Wyatt and Henry Flint, respectively, this comic sequel is an obvious read for fans of Judge Dredd and the recent Dredd film alike. Dredd has received positive reviews and a cult following among movie fans, inciting a strong online campaign for a film sequel. It's obvious that Dredd's fans are growing and Rebellion is ready to feed that itch for more content.

Item Code: NOV131215
In Stores:  1/29/14
SRP: $3.99

I'm enjoying this story in the Meg at the moment but didn't realise that this was also going to be released separately.  Also, it looks like this is Rebellion without IDW releasing something for the US market - have they done anything like this before?

Off Topic / Star Trek - Official Starships Collection
22 August, 2013, 03:58:01 PM
Anyone else noticed this being advertised recently?  I figure that there must be a few Trek fans on this board.

"This incredible new fortnightly collection of STAR TREK models includes all the most significant ships
from the five STAR TREK television series. Every ship has been painstakingly recreated in die-cast
and high quality ABS materials then hand painted with an incredible level of detail."

Anyone seen these in the shops yet?  Apparantly it's one a fortnight and the first was is £1.99, then its £9.99 each after that.  First one comes with USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D), which I'm sure I don't need to tell you is from the Next Generation series.  If it's not too bad, then I might get this one at least.  Issue 2 has the classic USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) from the original series - that's the one I would really want, why can't that be £1.99?  >:(

Film & TV / Too Many Comic Based Movies?
09 May, 2013, 01:12:48 PM
Hollywood ..... they love nothing more than getting an idea and then flogging it to death!  So I'm starting to wonder - are we getting too many comic based movies?

We've recently had - Batman, Avengers, Dredd, Iron Man,
And coming up - Thor, Captain America, Superman
And further on - more Avengers, JLA
(I'm sure I've missed some - these are just off the top of my head)

I enjoy comics and movies based on them (especially Dredd), but its starting to get to the stage where they are dominating the cinema.  Surely, a little more variety is better? The other problem is that these films often follow a similar course - good guy, bad guy, fancy cgi, the end! So, we start getting that strange feeling that we have already seen this film before!

What do you think - are we starting to get too many or can you not get enough?

General / Dream Dredd Crossover
01 May, 2013, 01:51:17 PM
Sorry for the corny topic but it's Wednesday and I'm bored!

Along with Dredd I've been reading quite a bit of Marvel recently and as well all know, they love a good crossover.  I know this has probably been mentioned on here before and crossovers are a bit corny but what would be your dream Dredd crossover?

I've also been digging out some of my old comics lately and found the Robocop Terminator mini-series from the 90s which leads to my vote for:

Dredd & Robocop vs The Terminator

Dredd and Robocop clearly both share a love for the law so in my mind would make a better team up than Dredd with some vigilante like Batman! The terminator would make for a good enemy aswell as he just keeps coming back no matter how many times Joe puts him down!
