Fact checking myself: Bob Holness presented the game show Blockbusters and not Countdown. I was so eager to get the James Bond trivia out that I forgot myself. Luckily I didn’t say he played the saxophone on Baker Street.

First James Bond too. On the radio.

I will learn to read a post properly before jumpin' in with my useless information ... especially when I quote it. I will... one day... honest...

Prog / Prog 2282 - Out for Blood
« on: 16 May, 2022, 08:38:26 PM »
Nice little Prog - to say we started the year with such a stella line-up, most of which has moved on and we still have a Prog of this quality is quite something!

Dredd turning into a really nice little story this. Love all the insights into what the Titan surgury does to folks. The idea of not being able to laugh is curiously chilling. All moving along at a good pace, but all with room to breathe and explore. Just brilliant stuff.

As is Hope love the way it plays with the way it presents its tale is fantastic and what a tale it tells as well. Superb

Brink well however good those strips are they ain't Brink. What a chilling episode after some nice relaxing intimate character moments the horror just hits home all the more. Just staggeringly good.

Dexter I mean this is good, good comics too. Dabnett has really upped his game on Bulletopia of late. I don't know if these current strips have been written knowing the change in format for this series (it has changed right?) and if so it shows. nice self contained (one assumes) tales built onto the ongoing premise but with space to do its own thing and here the horror set up of the first episode pays off in spades.

Fiends wraps things up really nicely thank you very much. That this is the 'weakest' strip here, as opposed to the best thing as it might well be in many a prog is testament to how good the Prog is at the moment.

Just a blister Prog and a lovely letterer from one of our finest to boot.

Well this is interesting YouTube launched a load of 'YouTube originals' on Friday (13th May) and one of them was apparently The Phoenix's own Corpse Talk

https://youtu.be/rqZQ2wMPtO0

There are a number of the videos up already - though I had to do a specific seearch to find them. Well done to Adam and Lisa Murphy!

As learnt from Downthetubes

Well if Week 1 broke you into what Round 3 could be like Week 2 will show you its extremes with possibly the tie of the Round coming in (though there is one later that possibly tops even this). Eyes will be blinding, hair will be torn out before this week is over…

A Grennie face-off here. Necronauts has already taken down Timequake and Dredd… well Cadet Dredd at least. Aquila slugged it out with The Vigilant. So both face a much tougher challenge here. Both show the best of their writer - with great art teams as well. The swords and cricket bats are drawn…

Aquila - more info

Vs

Necronauts - more info

Just reply in this thread naming your favourite thrill of these two series at the beginning of your post (or use Bold tags so I can spot it easily) and say what you like about these wonderful stories after that.

Match ends early on the morning of Thursday 19th May and the winner gets a place in Round 4 (of 9!!!).

What on Earth is ALL of this?

For those that need ‘um and can be bothered to follow ‘um there’s some simple rules

Any questions, just ask as ever - and have FUN

So we’ll start with a tough warm up. Two good mid-tier thrills I’d suggest. Damnation Station is still an unknown quantity having only bested Future Shorts in Round 2 coming head to head with Mazeworld who has only faced Janus. So both will have more to prove as the tourney goes on; but only one will survive this first test.

Finally back on the trail after boy child got out of sync and Girl child decided she didn't want to catch up after all - so I'm, finally catching up with the boy child and we will watch from there... anyway only really came by to say

Episode 3 least energetic car chase EVER*.

*The car chase in Way of the Gun os slow but does not lack energy. Its an important difference.

General / Re: Sideshow Vote: The end of the road
« on: 15 May, 2022, 09:46:00 AM »
I am almost ready to relaunch the sideshow vote. My plan is to kick it off by the end of the month. Now I am planning of doing something a little bit different.
1.   Firstly, I always tried to keep the votes in-house. How do you feel if I do a few that is not related to the prog/meg/Rebellion related? I just want to do a few of them and will not be the norm
2.   I also want to run a nay yay tourney within the sideshow. This is how it will work:
a.   It will be based very similar to Colin’s awesome best of tourney but more related to story arc within a series.
b.   I will choose ten of my favorite series and tell you what my favorite arc is
c.   You will either yay or nay it. With a nay you have to give your view and the alternative arc
d.   For example: I will say my favorite Slaine arc is the “The Brutania Chronicles”
e.   You can then rebuke it by saying no mine is “Slaine the King”
f.   After the qualification round we will have a big top 3 vote of your favorite arcs
3.   I also plan of doing a few controversial votes, but I will limit them

So how ho to you feel about the above otherwise I will keep with the original format?

Its your baby do what you like with it. I don't see any reason why you can't mix and match the ideas as suits you and the idea you have in mind. Some might suit some formats, some might suit another.

I think its great to spread beyond Tharg's house - the only caveat with that is making sure the topic is open or close enough to allow enough folks to vote. But as ever play with it and see what you enjoy and what lands.

More importantly YAY! The Sideshows are back - a lot sooner than I expected, excited about that whatever you do as these have been a LOT of fun.

VOTING CLOSED

Pete Milligan day here. Two of this stand alone thrills have triumphed. Different stories but both dealing with one of his key themes identity smartly and with real flare and imagination. Shadows only real problem is how many stories, beyond 2000ad, have taken similar ideas that it can read as over familar when revisited. Enough folks remembered it was one of the first to deal with this to get over some great and deserved affection for Brigand Doom and particularly its deep, atmospheric art so perfect for the story.

Shadows

will be the thrill asking us questions in Round 4 however.

11
VOTING CLOSED

Oh man this was a close one, but luckily I didn't have to make the call as I adore both these strips. Both have fantastic art, tight idea packed stories. Tribal Memories used four parts as well as has ever been done in the Prog and for such a short thrill has left a massive impression. Megatropolis has sprung out the blocks and with just one series has won a legion of fans and while we've been warned we might have a wait a while for the second it could quickly turn this thrill into an absolute classic if it lands as well as the first.

The tie ebbed and flowed with Megatropolis starting strong, Tribal Memories ruling the mid and Megatropolis pulling back right at the end. Alas one has to go and Megatropolis didn't quite pull back enough and

Tribal Memories

just will be sharing its experiences of Round 4.

Bit of a show off post but forgive me. I finally got my Kickstarter page from the Winter Special Kickstarter. Well worth the wait. Chris Geary's Kora is really a work of wonderer and this page is just superb.

This page is quite brilliant

So much process stuff you don't see in the final image - its superb, it really is. If you've not read Kora you really should check it out AND he sent me a free head sketch as well! Well I say sketch this is a truly fantastic picture.

Ohhh man its been too long since we had this thread up and running and boy did it take some tracking down. But here we are and I'm delighted to say I have a couple if new pieces to share.

Firstly from Chris Askham's Kickstarter for his quite brilliant small press title Switchblade Stories a page from issue 3

I adore this page. Its as if its something from The Warriors, which is kinda fitting as my package from Chris also included an Artzine of said cinematic masterpiece which he threw in cos I forgot to order it!

Chris Askham is GREAT!
