Brought to you courtesy of the first Art Comp winner of 2008, Mr Paul von Scott, we proudly present the February/March Art Competition:

'Set the controls for the heart of the sun!'

The sun, things crashing into suns, the sun crashing into things, things orbitting suns, suns orbitting things, suns over alien worlds, suns over ruined worlds, the sun giving life, the sun taking life, sun worshippers, sun loathers, dying suns, dead suns, strange suns, strangely shaped suns, twin suns, triplet suns, exploding suns, artficial suns and... puns on suns.

The competition will run until Friday 7th March, after which voting will run for one week, with the winner announced Saturday 15th March.

In addition to the usual voting, ranking your favourites 1 -3, I'm going to offer the option to cast one additional vote for "Honourable Mention" to give boarders the opportunity to recognize the funniest entry, or the most improved, or anyone who deserves, well, an honourable mention for their efforts ...

Looking forward to seeing what you all come up with.

Cheers!

In a public spirited move I'll put up my daubing first so that all future entrants will be safe in the knowledge that they won't be the worst.

BTW That happy fellow in the corner is the sun.

Sodding hell, I'm in the middle of painting a page of surface of the sun based malarky. Get out of my head!

Look what I found!

According to a letter a few progs later, it's also a music reference.

Trust me, normally I'd ask for all of that in one panel.

Apologies to anyone who finds it a bit too obscure a subject. I'm just asking for a picture which features a sun to good effect, anyone can paint a yellow blob so there's no excuses.

Like (is that the wrong word) the puns so far and Indigo's SpaceVW is great.

The title is from an early (my favourite era)Pink Floyd song, but I've always thought it sounded like a moment from your favourite science fiction film ever.

I've never been in Nat's head, and I have an alibi for whenever she claims it has happened.

Don't worry, Paul. I think we have the makings of Skizz IV here!

(Sorry - reading a lot of 90s progs for the first time, while also being ill. My mind is pickled. Babes In Arms? Fuck off, Garth!)

It's a fantastic song, particularly the version on Live in Pompei, glorious! Can't draw though so that's all I have to contribute I'm afraid.

Dark Jimbo

I've got an idea for this (tooth related, in fact) but as usual it'll depend on whether I find time to draw it.

Ive done pencils for 2, surprisingly found it quite inspiring !  i've probably unwittingly drawn a scene from a Dr Who episode, or solaris or ... what was that recent film that i havent seen yet with the handsome boy from 28 days later ? explosions n stuff ?

looking forward to trying to colour them, tempted to do proper paints, splodge splodge splatt, imagine large canvases all glowing orange oils ! ooo... anyway, but it seems wacom is becoming the quicker option..
