Megazine / Re: Lack of love for the bundled "floppies"?

Seeing as it looks unlikely Red Seas is ever going to get collected in a tpb, could we have a few floppies worth of that?

On the topic of women in Dredd;

Earlier in the thread, Jim posted a link to this reviewer's Dredd thoughts. This is her review of Looper, and it can be boiled down (for our biased eyes) to "I wish Looper was more like Dredd"

Prog / Re: Prog 1801 Green Death On The Red Planet

Don't normally say much on these threads, but I feel compelled to praise a particular aspect of the already otherwise awesome Brass Sun.

Last issue, it was emphasised that the story is set on the southern hemisphere of the planet. I noticed it during the zoom in, and thought it was pretty neat the way the moon was subsequently seen from the other direction.

This week, we see that this wasn't just a nice bit of artistic flare, but vital storytelling, leaving the reader entierly clear about what that splash page conveys. That's one of those examples of the comic medium being used to its fullest extent. Loved it.

Turned up this one, via Twitter. Another thoughtful, thoroughly positive review to take the nasty taste of that WC one away...

Cheers

Jim

Was just on my way to link to this, but ya beat me to it! Glad I read through the past few pages to check that I wasn't repeating things. Of important note with this review is that she isn't a previous fan of the comics, is a very different demographic to the imagined tooth regulars, and she loved it. Nice one Dredd!

So, I've been drinking and as such this might not make much sense, and might not follow on from this thread at all, but:

The Cybermen are shit, because in the 60s it might have been scary that disable people were using technology to improve their lives, but today this is called equality. Sure, Dr Who has always been about a middle class white man being right, but technology being a threat is so regressive that the cybermen become really laughable, or better yet, the laudable good guys.

In my drunken opinion, that is all.

Very cool stuff. Is she a fan of the comic?

Haha, yes, she is indeed a fan of the comic :D One of the great things about going out with a lady of good taste is that you are never stumped for gift choices. Thought Bubble is so conveniently close to Christmas...

General / A Gift For My Girlfriend

Today, I gave my girlfriend this Simon Fraser Nikolai Dante commission:

As you might imagine, she was pretty pleased. More pics over on my blog: http://lrgcarter.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/the-awesomeness-of-simon-fraser.html

Film & TV / Re: dinosaurs on a spaceship

Last season I found I had reached the point in my life where I couldn't object to love being a metaphysical cure-all in this idealistic fantasy world.

This season I have reached the point where I can't waste brain power on worrying about the erratic morality of the Doc himself. A man who rides around in a stolen ship and kills all who oppose him, often in units of species, objecting to a pirate killing the crew of a single spaceship? Er, sure, whatever.

I enjoyed this episode a lot.

General / Re: ABC warriors-what do I need?

Over the past decade, there have been three stories that all run into each other.

To summarise the back story: in the Volgan war, robots were built to fight in place of humans. After the war, seven of these robots were sent to fix the problems faced when terra-forming Mars. Then these seven went on adventures in time and space. Now, they are coming back to Mars...

Following that paragraph, get yourself The Third Element, The Shadow Warriors, and The Volgan War books, and you will be all caught up with the recent run. People claim the Black hole is the best story, and when I was a teenager I agreed. With the benefit of hind-sight, it has its problems. Nothing major, and it is brilliant, but today it loses out to The Shadow Warriors. If you read no other ABC stories, get yourself the Shadow Warriors, a fantastic introduction to what Pat Mills is capable of when he just constantly throws new material into his work, prog after prog after prog.

Books & Comics / Re: Dr WTF?! 2012

Everyone loves necro-posting, right? Especially when the thread is a good'un like this one.

The other day, I asked Owen if he minded me putting up my contribution to this worthy cause, and he gave me the go-ahead.

So here you are, a complete free comic:

I also wrote some commentary here: http://lrgcarter.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/dr-wtf-artists-commentary.html

Only just noticed this, otherwise I'd have posted sooner.

You probably have enough people signed up, but I'm in if you need me. Sending my thoughts to you at this difficult time.

Who killed Jenna's mum?

Generally, I would rather see something new rather than relying on past glories.

And yet reading this thread has made me yearn for Clint Langly's Shako verses Rupert the Bear.

Al Ewing on script, me thinks.

Prog / Re: Prog 1791: The End

Last week Maitland was introduced as a strong, robust judge. Now she has arms like pencils, and the art focuses too much on tits and arse. Since I restarted collecting tooth a year ago, this is the first time Dredd has left such an ugly taste in my mouth. Especially disappointing given how amazing the past year has been.

Dante on the other hand... it's just too big, I don't have words but I have so many questions! Brilliant stuff.
