Well, there's lots of good news with this announcement:

The first half of any year leading up to Memorial Day (The traditional start of summer blockbuster season) in Hollywood is where the studios send their movies to die. That is, movies they have no idea how to market or movies they think are going to fucking tank. Think the likes of Green Hornet, Priest, The Rite, The Adjustment Bureau, Battle: Los Angeles. That this is being released on the tail-end of the summer season, and avoiding the summer's big-guns, means they must have some faith in what they've got.

Of course, the shit news is we have to wait over a year to see it now...

It's  damn fine and exciting news. And no-one's awake for it. How I giggle Riddler style.

COMMANDO FORCES

Now that I'm parked up I can say that the release date has made me happy. Mainly as I was worried that it may happen over the weekend of Hi-Ex and that would be BAD.
As said in the above post, it is now well away from the Marvel/DC films that are coming out and so won't get lost in all the hype that comes with them.
I do think the title of this thread should have been the release date as a few forum members may feel cheated, thinking teaser trailer, Anderson pics, etc...

Still, a few of us all nighters enjoyed the torture of waiting for Molch-R to say his second post!

I shall now have to sort out some leave over that period, just so I can enjoy the telly build up   ;)

Beaky Smoochies

Pretty surprised the Dredd release date is so far into 2012, but this is a good thing, hopefully means the visual effects- and by that, read as MEGA-CITY ONE- and the 3-D are both going to be top-notch.  The bad thing is we're unlikely to see a teaser trailer anytime this year, hope y'all have a lot of coffee on hand, we're in for the long haul on this one...

Yeah, thought we might maybe get one with Conan in August but couldn't see that now...

At least they are not rushing it so the SFX will be up to scratch.
Gonna be about 10 months before we get a trailer though i bet.

That certainly explains the drip-feed of publicity so far.  Good to get a date, but more than a year, oh my heartses, won't somebody think of the obsessives?  Hopefully this is a positive thing, based on extended post-production and clever scheduling.

Too much to hope for a Christmas teaser trailer, maybe?  In the meantime, I think I'll be avoiding this thread for a while...

JOE SOAP

That gives them a a few months or so to shoot a sequel before the end of time.

That may not be the reason at all though, they'll only spend the time on FX that their budget was allocated for unless they got more money. It may be just a scheduling decision to avoid all the big films released during the first two quarters and just before 3D box-office singularity 'THE HOBBIT'. Warners just put back the Man of Steel to Summer 2013 to avoid all the other 2012 men-in-tights flicks.

Goaty

Yeah they gotta to re-shots to shaved off his chin to pleased some compliants! And with new re-size helmet!

SmallBlueThing

Well, that of course sounds far off, but sensibly avoids spider-mania, batmadness and hobbit-irritation. So we can expect a teaser trailer 14/9/12 then i take it?
But no, at least now we have a firm release date*

While the wait will be excruciating, if the delay allows the film makers to craft the best Dredd film possible then I'm more than happy to wait.

And it's up against the next Resident Evil film in that time-slot so no contest! :D

Exciting news?? its like telling the kids xmas has been put back untill may! 2013 untill we can get the blu-ray- dvd! shit news :(

IAMTHESYSTEM

Over a year to wait but that will give them plenty of time to prepare a marketing campaign plus polish up the special effects. :)

Trouble is according to the Mayan calender the World ends on 21st of December 2012 so we'll only have a few months of Dredding before the Apocalypse boys ride into town.   :-\
