I wondering if any of you Original Art bods may be able to help.
I am looking for a high res scan of the original 2000ad logo in black and white, and of the original Dredd logo too, off a piece of original art, the older the better.

Please PM if you can help.

General / Tribute to Harry Harrison
17 August, 2012, 10:29:18 AM
Kelvin Gosnell asked me to post this.

"Very sad to hear of Harry's death. He was a great SF hero of mine when I was a kid and I read everything of his I could get hold of. Thus, when 2000AD was successful, it was a personal aim of mine to get the Stainless Steel Rat into the book. Harry was delighted to go along with us and I had the honour and enjoyment of writing the scripts of Slippery Jim for Carlos to draw. It was the most enjoyable, rewarding task I ever did for the paper. From the posts here, I see that the Rat turned a good few readers on to Harry's work and to science-fiction novels in general which, I must confess, was one of the aims of putting the Rat into 2000AD. So, cheers, Harry. Thanks for all the wonderful stories and particularly for Slippery Jim. It was an honour knowing you - and bloody great fun as well. Kelvin Gosnell"

Help! / Laptop trouble.
10 May, 2012, 10:16:41 AM
Im have a bit of bother with my laptop. Before I bring it to the repair shop, Ill run it by you peeps here and see if its a simple fix.

I had one of the fake security virius about two week ago, I did system restore and it seemed to do the trick.
Since that I have noticed a few bits going wrong.
Every time it starts up I get, 'Catalyst control centre, host application has stopped working, windowss is looking for a solution', and then dissapears.
Next a microsoft.net framework box opens , it say an unhandle exception has occured in your application, it to do with toshiba registration. If i click quit, it closes.

Other than that everything seem to be working, OK, until I noticed last night I have no access to my c and d drives. D drive says that I have 40g free out of 150g, but when I click on it it say the folder is empty.
I have no access to pictures, video, or PDF files, but word files are OK.
Is there something simple I can do or is it a shop job? Any help appreciated. Ist windows 7 with an amd processer.

Off Topic / Lego Star Wars
26 March, 2012, 12:22:49 AM
My oldest boy has taken a big interest in Star Wars since Christmas, it started when he got a piece for his birthday, then we got a playstation game a few weeks ago at the boot sale, and we watched a New hope a couple of week back.
I like Star Wars, but im no expert, when I watched a New Hope with him it was probably the first time I had seen it in 20 years.

Brendan asked me this evening if he could buy more minifigures out of his pocket money, and he gave me a list, any Darth, any droid, and the hairy guy he couldnt remember the name of(ie Chewy) and asked me to get them on 'the computer'.

I know nothing of Star Wars toys, a quick look on ebay, they seem damn expensive for a tiny toy, any pointers?

Help! / Digital Downloads.
13 February, 2012, 12:15:51 AM
Locusts thread reminded me that I should do something along the lines of digital comics with the ones I have published.

As I have said before, its not something that Im particularly interested in reading, but Im not foolish enough to know thats its not the way forward.

With that in mind I have a few things I want to do. Both issues of Emerald Isle are now in low stock and its time to put up a digital edition for free download.

What I want to do is put a button on the blog under a pic of both covers  to download. What Im wondering is where do I store the comic behind the button?  What is the correct format for the comic to be downloaded in, At the min I have all files as PDF,JPEG and Tiff.

I am in the process of putting together a new comic as well, hopefully around Easter and I want to release this as a print and download to be paid for. I see that the Paypal button can be used to get payment for a download, same question as above, plus if I want this to be available on lets say Amazon for download do I need to get an ISBN? What format is used for Amazon?

Cheers

Help! / Pulps
20 January, 2012, 04:31:07 PM
I have a few pulp mags that I bought a lomg time ago, I have no particular interest in them. Anyone know of any book seller that may be interested in buying them? I know ebay is an option, but the thoughts of listing them isint appealing. The titles are various, but the majority are Astounding Science Fiction from the early fifties, british editions.

Books & Comics / The Phoenix

Not the political satiricial mag or Marvel comic, its the offspring of the DFC.

For those of you that dont know, the DFC was an attempt at launcing a weekly comic for kids, it was a cross between the Beano, The new Eagle and possibly Bunty. A great mix of stories and art with my favourite Mesolith, and the kids was John Blake. It was sold on subscription only, and unfortunatly didnt last, it folded after 43 wekly issues.

The team behind DFC are back and I got late last week issue 0 preview issue, it was distributed through Waitrose stores in the UK and to be honest its a craker.

The cover isint great, its not giving me an idea of whats inside, but the first story is great, its the Pirates of Pangaea, lost lands, Dinos,  Pirates and great art, what not to like.

The Apprentice looks good to the art by John Welding is great, a tale of magic in Russia, a series of one offs mayby?

Anyone familiar with Jamie Smarts work in the Dandy and the DFC will know what to expect with Bunny V Monkey, not my cup of tea, but the kids loved it and the art is really good.

Lots of previews too, there is Long Gone Don, the art looks like an Eric Powell/Eisner cross, Star Cat, The Lost Boy,new novel extracts, plus puzzle and how to make comic pages.

Ill be getting this for the kids, and happily reading it myself too, a quality product, hope it lasts.

After checking for the site address I see this preview issue is available for download FREE and issue 1 is on sale now.

Film & TV / American Horror Story
12 November, 2011, 11:43:42 PM
Has anyone watched any of this yet? Ive seen the first four episodes and Mary likes it.
Its relentlessly grim, the first four  episodes have thrown enough plot against the wall Im afraid it will go the way of Lost.
Enjoyable enough, bit of a Twin Peaks feel to it. Worth a watch.
