It's also worth remembering that not so long ago there was a thread on this very forum calling for the issue of Dredd's ageing to be resolved somehow. MC was only giving us what we'd been clamouring for for a while.

Whereas I really didn't want the aging problem sorted at all, in fact that was one of the Dredd strips most interesting attributes. I understand why they felt the need to do it, but it was to the detriment of that great building aspect of the strip since question of judgement.

Completely agree with this. Dredd's mortality was part of what made him interesting.

For me - if Dredd isn't strong I always feel a bit disappointed.

I have found the last 2 years of non-Wagner Dredd's pretty bad: there are so many plot threads going on that I really don't care for.

Added to that the fact that there are a few recurring series I really disliked (Survival Geeks, Black Schlock, most of the 3Rillers, recent Anderson, Hunted, Bad Company revival), A few recurring series I find pretty dull (Aquilla, Counterfeit Girl, Jaeger). This all means that although there is some really good stuff in the Prog at most points 2 stories I don't care about.

I really enjoyed Brothers of the Blood, my only criticism is that the original Vienna story wasn't included to complete the Dredd family tree. Could that be a repro issue?

That aside, the volume is a great examination of the nature of Dredd and his relatives, well reflected in Michael Molcher's thoughtful and extensive article.

Looking forward to The Hunting Party, not so sure about Behind the Iron Curtain as I share the not-so-fond memories of Red Razors. Any clues as to what else might be included in that volume?

Inspectre? Samizdat Squad?

The Shakara book has the same content as avenger plus a future shock. A bit disappointing as I thought it would be a one volume version.

So are the mm stories not complete in this collection?

A couple of new pieces you may enjoy seeing:

A very memorable spread for me this one. Amazing. I can remember staring at this as a kid in the Titan reprint (I was too young for the original comic).

Probably my favourite Dredd foe - Fink Angel. I love the style McMahon was using at this time and I love this piece.

Nice to see some action on this page again - lovely stuff there especially that Dillon from one of my childhood favourites City of the Damned.

And I have finally got a Dolan page from another of my favourites Mean Machine:

And here a few classic thrill-pages that you will hopefully enjoy seeing - I have not seen many Day the Law Died pages so I was thrillled to get these, by Brendan McCarthy (with a little uncredited Ewins in there I think):

I did enjoy RHLSTP (as all the cool kids are calling it) for a while but I'm starting to find him increasingly annoying and decreasingly funny - and as he digs deeper into his pool of comic mates, I find I've never heard of a lot of them.

If you're cherry-picking however, the Peter Serafinowitz one is a classic for his Star Wars stories.

Totally agree. Love Rich Herring but the show is becoming a bit of a slog.
