Film & TV / Re: Films You May Have Missed........

Newsfront is beautiful movie. It's about the last days of newsreels (ie when you saw your news at the movies instead of on the TV) and follows a news crew around Australia in the 1950s, dealing with things like the Catholic/Protestant divide, the attempted banning of the Communist Party....., I realise I'm not making it sound thrilling here, but I really enjoyed it

your idea is a good one Ade.
But the pennies in a jar bit worked and works for me. It can't fail. It doesn't matter if I save for ages and use it to pay for an i-pod or a 2000ad subscription or snap early on and use what little is there to buy a hamburger. Either way, I'm spending money I would have burned and inhaled before - almost anything other than smoking is a more rational use of it.

Don't drink very much alcohol because you might start smoking again. Stay away from places where there are a lot of smokers or where you used to smoke (as far as if practicable). Try to think about not smoking for the next day or hour, as that's much more manageable than not smoking for the rest of your life.  If you get a craving put up with it. Everyone in your situation gets them and they get better over time.
Oh and put some money aside every day to remind you of what you're gaining by giving up. Watching money you would otherwise have spent making your life shorter and less pleasant pile up is a great motivator.

here's some comments.

I couldn't give two hoots about the new logo.
Likewise about what's across each cover

I'd like to see a good story, great art, some action, a bit of wit and some interesting characters

ho ho....good point. Still, if enough people did it, it would have an impact.

Now off to write some 'people's poetry' to help fight police brutality

Help! / Free webmail accounts

I have a friend who wants to stop using gmail, as a protest against the way they help the Chinese government oppress its people. He doesn't want to use yahoo or hotmail either for the same reasons.
Can anyone recommend a free webmail system that is okay and which doesn't cooperate with the Chinese Big Brother?

strontium dogs was always okay. I started reading Luke Kirby after it had jumped the shark, with a Parkhouse drawn Luke wandering around listening to a windbag pagan tramp, compared to whom Finn and Slaine are Trappist monks. Oh and he met a girl who was allegedly beautiful despite looking exactly like Luke.

I think Sinister Dexter kind of jumped the shark when they started going on about the Downlode code

I think you're referring to the burger wars bit, which is never allowed to be reprinted due to fear of McDonalds taking offence. Or something like that.
