Oops double post -Out of interest I downloaded FTL 1 (by Orangutan comics)from one of the rpg sites  and it was an extremely well presented and well done comic. I was genuinely impressed.

Not sure if it needs its own thread (we can get it split off if needed) but I spotted someone compiling a list of agents who might be interested in pimping graphic novel ideas around publishers:

http://dcboards.warnerbros.com/web/thread.jspa?threadID=2000203461&tstart=0

Which raises a whole host of questions - when do you get an agent? How do you pick one that isn't going to rip you off?
if I went 'round saying I was an Emperor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

A general Googling and/or cross reference against the Writers Yearbook is a good start. Also, anyone mentioned in the SFWA's Writers Beware section is probably worth avoiding!

Blimy they had some interesting stuff. Might try a title or two. Cheers for the link Emperor.

Got one of Unicos titles "The Legend Known as..." first issue of four  very good production values and look.

The story unfolds as a flashback  but it soon sorted itself out and raced along.

Good stuff. A post apocalypse tale set in some un named (looks like US) city with an intriguing "hero/anti-hero" though a bit early to tell as the protagonist has just made his (excellent) first entry.

Leicester publishers Time Bomb Comics are also looking for artists:

QuoteTime Bomb Comics are currently looking for artists to work on a number of original graphic novels that will hopefully be published over the next few years.

As with many small-size publishers we do not offer up front page rates BUT we do offer a guaranteed back-end return based wholly on sales, and of course a great opportunity for you to be published by one of the UK's "great up and coming companies" (comicshopvoice.co.uk - Jan 2010) !

If you're a new talent looking for exposure (or perhaps an exposed talent looking for something new) please get in touch with a few samples of your work to submissions@timebombcomics.com.

An interesting competition which at least gives you a chance to get your work in front of a very different audience - I'm going to have a solid ponder on this one:

QuoteUK indie film magazine Little White Lies is challenging comic creator to re-imagine your favourite film as a six frame comic book story. The best mini-strips will then be featured in the next issue.

I had a short text story in their last book. Steve puts out some really great, fun stuff.

locustsofdeath!

@Emperor: thanks for posting that sir...I've got my script already and shall be posting a call for an artist shortly!

@his Lordship: I didn't realize Time Bomb Comics accepted text stories...thanks for mentioning that.

starscape

StarscapeOnline.com is always looking for reviewers (comics, movies, tv), artists, creator teams and prose writers.  The submissions page will be changing soon, so here's a quick preview (you may get a warning - don't worry, it's just due to it being on a host rather than on my live site):
http://superherostore.150m.com/starscape/submissions.htm

Or else you could try one of the companies mentioned below - although most companies now want creator teams (artist + writer), rather than script submissions.  Comic companies looking for unpaired writers are now very rare.  In fact, for paying gigs, I can only really see Rebellion, Dynamic Forces (but there's little chance of you getting accepted unless you're already a 'name') and Avatar.

Thanks for that.

Another call for creators:

QuoteI'm starting up a Publish on Demand comic called "Tales of the Supernatural" and I'm looking for people or teams to pitch.  No money but exposure, indy cred, profit sharing and taking part in the grand experiment of new distrubtion channels.  The stories are all shorts (4-10 pages) and must have some sort of Supernatural theme either Vampires, Twilight Zone-ish, Golems, Cthulhu-esque, dragons and such.  Drop me a line at talesofthesupernatural@yahoo.com.  Looking forward to hearing from you

From Twitter:

Quote@FirstAgeComics customer? Never been published? Want to experience putting a comic together? First Age Comics Issue 1 is in development.....

First Age Comics 1 will be looking for 1-5 page stories over the coming weeks. First stage is to send a synopsis in summarising your story.

As First Age Comics 1 is open for all ages we're expecting kids to submit their comics so the only no no's are bad language, nudity & gore.

First Age Comics 1: whether it be for experience, your portfolio or merely to see what it's like to go from idea to printed page. Enjoy!

http://twitter.com/FirstAgeComics

They appear to be a comics seller based in Lancaster but I'm not sure about any of the details beyond that but feel free to ask them and pass it on here.

I am tickled by the idea of getting kids involved - a lot of the boarders have young (and not so young) sprogs they are training in the ways of Thrillpower who might be interested in taking a shot at it (is there a Zarjaz special in there? Young Squaxx? Squaxx to the Future? Even if only online... I miss the pictures from the letter's page)

John Caliber

Some interesting publishing options in this thread. I've got a graphic novel ready to go into full production next year (1/4 finished) and all I'm short is a publisher (although Dark Horse has its appeal, I'd rather support British endeavours)

It will definately appeal to 2000AD readers while being quite different to anything from that comic. It was originally positioned as a script for a strange (and cheap!) fantasy TV or radio series set in contemporary England (and still might be).
