After the Body Count jump on episode before Christmas, The Killing campaign for the Strontium Dog Miniatures Game will resume with a new episode this Friday and every fortnight thereafter until its conclusion!

Meantime, for anyone who'd like to hear some chat about tactics for the Strontium Dog Miniatures Game - which equally apply to the Judge Dredd Miniatures Game - may enjoy this podcast:

For anyone who's been enjoying the series so far, you may be interested in the last 15 minutes as Allan, who is running, recording and writing the reports (I just convert them into a video format), lifts the lid on some of the secrets behind the scenes.

Music / Re: What's everyone listening to...?

I received a few CDs in my Christmas haul:

Thom Yorke: Anima
Unkle: The Road Part 1 and Part 2
Therapy?: A Brief Crack of Light

I'm still in the process of breaking them in (I seem to need to listen to an album a good few times before I fully 'get it'), but I'm having fun with them all. I would say that Unkle's "War Stories" and "Where Did The Night Fall" are far more accessible but the slower, more reflective pace of The Road albums is something that I'm definitely enjoying immensely. I'm a big fan of Therapy? but I don't think this will be favourite of mine, it's a lot more oppressive and experimental than their 90's work which was their peak, certainly commercially speaking. Thom Yorke's Anima is fairly chilled electronica which is what I was expecting and enjoy. I know from some Facebook music groups I'm on that he is incredibly polarising as an artist - although a lot of the hate came from Coldplay fans!

I absolutely loved Judge Dredd: Helter Skelter, though. I got the Dark Judges expansion, but haven't had a chance to play it yet. Hopefully it did well enough that they can justify more. An ABC Warriors/Nemesis expansion would be brilliant!

Ah, I was thinking of asking about JD: HS because I like the look of the minis - good to know the game is fun as well! I take it you can't really play solo?

Helter Skelter is a truly gorgeous game, and plays really well. It's a tabeltop 2000AD Super Smash Bros - what's not to like?! The Dark Judges expansion introduces solo rules, so that your team can go up against the DJs - you could probably fudge some house rules from that so that you could go up against any other team.

Ah, nice! The wife has been asking me what I'd like for Christmas so it seems that I'm sorted! Cheers DJ!

Thanks for the replies all!

Yeah I increased everything for all users and still could not win.
No I have never won.

But yeah it is a lovely game. :-)

Wow, I thought it might just need a minor adjustment on that front to fix it! I will definitely experiment and let you know the outcome!

Not tried any house rules, but haven't won yet either (not that we've tried for a while, but it's a good game, other than apparently being impossible to win).

Ha, yes, it's the 'impossible' part I'm not that fond of - I like to be able to have a reasonable chance of success when playing games, but maybe that's just me...

I really need to break this put again - one of the few games I own which has a solo mode!

Yeah, since the pandemic hit, I've rarely been able to meet up with friends so that was part of the draw with this.

Its a beautiful game but I just couldn't get into it. I think I probably just don't enjoy solo games.

Ah, I was thinking of asking about JD: HS because I like the look of the minis - good to know the game is fun as well! I take it you can't really play solo? I don't really have many gaming friends who are 2000AD fans as well (shocking, I know) and I already have Warlord Games' SD and JD games so it's hard to justify something which will require more players at the moment.

Games / Cursed Earth Card Game by Osprey - House Rules?
« on: 20 November, 2021, 10:46:17 AM »
I know this game has been out for a long time but I just picked up a copy...

I'm really impressed with the production values, particularly in respect of Dan Cornwell and Rufus Dayglo's artwork. As for the game itself, I like the system but, echoing some of the comments on long-dead threads I spotted elsewhere here, I found it punishingly difficult!

I have spotted a youtube video which shows that it can be done, but I was wondering how often fellow players managed a win? It seems so hard that I've been considering giving Dredd an extra 2 health, Giant 1 and Anderson a free Psi get out of jail card, maybe even adding an extra ration or bullet to the starting pool.

The other house rule I'm already considering (as a result of being a keen tabletop gamer) is introducing some dice rolling, likely using Warlord's dice from the Strontium Dog and Judge Dredd games. I haven't quite thought that one through yet, but I would apply it to any fight situation that arises in the card game.

So, 2 questions:

Has anyone else created their own house rules?

Has anyone completed the game without tweaking it and, if so, does it happen often? (I'm assuming not!)

Ongoing series are an issue, like broodblik says. Edginton is particularly bad for that. I’d love to know what’s going on with Brass Sun in particular. Is it just gone? Is it coming back?

It's hardly up to date information, but I'd asked about this on the Judge Dredd Tat and Chat Facebook group last year and Mr Edginton replied "Yep, there is more coming! Mr Culbard and I both got side-tracked with other jobs, not to mention life in general getting in the way but there is more Brass Sun, Stickleback and Scarlet Traces in the works plus some new material to boot!" I've chanced my arm and asked him for an update! Like you I'm eager for more!

Bout 15: The Outpost featuring Clacton Fuzz

In this episode, the contestants battle at The Outpost where prisoners may be freed and join the Killing! This is one of the most gruelling and unpredictable encounters of Allan's series so far - and my personal favourite!

Ha, thanks for watching Mr Barrington Boots! Yeah, I was really hoping to see the Blob make a similar kill to the one we see in The Killing - Allan had even worked out how he'd do the effect - but it wasn't to be!

I have a lot of love for these as well! Forest of Doom was one of my favourites and was one I never cracked until I played the Tinman Games version a few years back (would highly recommend btw, they're very faithful and nicely realised adaptations of the books). The Fighting Fantasy series are probably the closest I came to roleplaying until I spotted GW's Judge Dredd: The Roleplaying Game in '87. Once I played that, I got the RPG and then tabletop gaming bug...and have never looked back!

Damn, I also missed this one too! Outlaw was my favourite, but I can totally understand why Rage proved more popular! Both are pure class!
