Quote from: The Corinthian on 16 August, 2023, 08:26:18 AMI've come to blank the Regened Progs but there's still nothing more dispiriting in a new prog than seeing the phrase "...returns in two weeks' time!" at the end of a strip.

Portals & Black Goo hasn't been doing anything for me but is it hinting at an appearance by [REDACTED FAMOUS COMICS CHARACTER I CAN'T NAME BECAUSE THE SITE WON'T LET ME INSERT SPOILERS ANY MORE] at the end of this prog's episode? Tomlinson haswritten for him before in Tooth (sort of).

Please elaborate, perhaps over PM!!

I'm assuming it's your cousin...sort of 😁.

Quote from: Magnetica on 19 August, 2023, 08:25:17 AMIt would be a bit disappointing if the previous collections have reproduction that's not as good as it could have been.

There's a non-trivial cost to rescanning (and supplying new files to the press, who'll charge a whole round of set-up fees again) — if you're going to go to the trouble (and expense) I can see why you'd a) want to show the new scans off in the most flattering format possible, and b) look to recoup that outlay from a new edition.

Which isn't say that I can't also see the dilemma it presents for Squaxx who've already bought the damn thing multiple times. :)

Jim, any insight on how the reproduction will compare to the previous versions?

And when I said "Titan" editions, I might well have meant "Fleetway". I'm not at home so I can't check.

All I know is they were an improvement over the somewhat murky Progs. If I recall correctly the first two volumes had a matt finish and the third one a gloss finish. I have never understood why they did that.

So yes a dilemma indeed- do I go for the "definitive version"?

I'm pretty much a sucker for the Apex art books... but space is limited...and I don't want to keep buying the same thing.

I've already got the Horned God three times: the original Progs, the three Titan volumes from back in the day, and the Ultimate Collection. Not sure I can justify getting it again. It would be a bit disappointing if the previous collections have reproduction that's not as good as it could have been.

I'm already considering getting the m new Definitive Nemesis books, but need to draw the line somewhere on how many versions of stories I get.

General / Re: Ro Busters & A.B.C Warriors: Overview

In the middle of the article it says wrt The Shadow Warriors: " Carlos Ezquerra drew book 1, with the quintessential 2000AD artist Henry Flint drawing the remaining 2."

Ok Carlos didn't do his best art on ABC Warriors, and Flint is awesome, but calling someone else "the quintessential 2000AD artist" in a sentence containing the words Carlos Ezquerra just doesn't sound right.

I have been several weeks behind on my Prog reading and was doing a catch up. Unfortunately I saw next week's cover before reading Azimuth and so the reveal was spoiled for me.

But following Colin's earlier guess, that this was a SinDex spin off, I have been reading it with that in the back of my mind anyway.

It wouldn't surprise me if Dan Abnett had done it deliberately, along the line of "a load of you say you don't like Sinister Dexter, so let's put out a new thrill that people will rave about, only to reveal it's actually Sinister Dexter!".

The Prog is a solid 4 good / great strips and one duffer for me.

Enjoying Dredd, Stront Red, The Out and Rogue. Enemy Earth does pretty much nothing for me.

Not sure I agree with the comments about the series finale of The Out being a let down; I thought it was perfectly good. Looking forward to the next one already.

Good to see The Kindred back. As encouraged by Tharg, I reread the previous story first. The best thing about it was Mark Sexton's art. It's a real shame we don't get more of his work in the Prog.

As for this week's episode, as fine an artist as Paul Marshall is, all I could think looking at it, was "Skip Tracer".

Which isn't his fault, but was unfortunate nonetheless.

That's a very generous offer.
I would love one if still available.

PM sent.

Film & TV / Re: Cliffhanger Reboot.

Quote from: nxylas on 02 May, 2023, 12:17:21 PMI wish people would stop using the word "reboot" when they actually mean sequel, or remake, or adaptation. Words have meanings.

Yes you are right; reading the article is says "continuing the story". So it's a sequel not a reboot.

Either way, can't say I'm that bothered.

At best I'll possibly watch it on whatever streaming service it turns up on, in a few years, when looking for something to watch with the family. But I won't be going to the cinema for this one.

Megazine / Re: Meg 455: Fear the Future

I've noticed something weird about the digital Meg.

The Rob Richardson interview starting on page 56 looks like it was meant to have a double page spread on pages 56 & 57, and 58 & 59 judging by the art. But is the digital Meg the pages don't fall that way.

A quick look at a physical copy reveals the digital Meg is missing a page! An advert.

And indeed the digital Meg is only 131 pages not 132 - it should be an even number.

(And strangely since the Meg changed format to fully bound there seems to be a discrepancy in the page numbering for the articles - they are out by 2.)

How about Slaine? It didn't end, it just stopped.

I'm in two minds about The Order.

Yes it seems about to end without wrapping everything up. (Or should I say I have the impression there is a lot more that needs to be addressed, but as I haven't actually been able to follow it for years, I can't actually say what any of that is; but it feels like it?)

On the other hand I definitely don't want a sequel or any sort of spin-off  / follow on series.

Not unless it's way easier to follow.

Login Forever doesn't seem to be working, as I seem to have re-login every so often - once a week I guess.

Quote from: nxylas on 13 April, 2023, 02:53:48 PMMy only slight complaint with the Dredd story is that we had Leon Skum so soon after Leon Tusk in Noam Chimpsky. Not a big deal, but it feels like the sort of thing that editorial should have picked up on.

I was going to say it's one of the cleverest names of a character in Dredd ever, given it is an anagram whereas Leon Tusk isn't.
