Art submissions for 2000 AD..............

 All of the freelance art jobs I have had in the gaming/ comic industry, have been submitted over the internet.  Or I have been contacted through message boards. Most companies have requested the submissions be done in this way rather than sending them hard copies.  Does 2000 AD review submissions in this manner?

Never has done, and it's unlikely they ever will. I would suggest you send them samples thru the post and include a web address which will allow them to see more.

Based on what I've seen, I wouldn't. 2000AD has finally gotten rid of the dearth of Bisley clones and I'd hope to never see another. Sorry. Until you can find your own voice I won't be in any mad rush to see you appear in the galaxy's greatest.

Well Gregory, I thought a part of one of your coloured pics looked bisleyesque in places, but a not all of it and the B/W stuff didn't.  You may as well just carry on drawing, pick up what scraps of advice you can and hone that talent.

Whoa - bit harsh isn't it? Up and coming artists need encouragement not to be shot down. Boys got talent and i couldn't give a flying fig for who he might be similar to.

Personally, the constant "wow, that's great you should be working for 2000AD" simply because he has a modicum of ability more than most people in here is probably doing more damage to the guy than anything else. It's pretty much the definition of damning with faint praise.

I would encourage him to look outside his current influences (as I've already said) as it is, the best he can expect out of the 2000AD editorial will be "sub-biz clone .. next". IMHO that's the BEST advice he can get in here.

If Gregory wants to post something for a full and proper critique then I'll happily oblige, until then, keep on plugging dude - but I'd be surprised (and disappointed) if *this* work is what wins 2000AD over.

Got to agree with Max.
Gregory should be encouraged to send off his lot to Rebellion, after all it is they who count, and send out the rejection form if they don't like it.
After all I've seen far far worse in 2K's history, that's not to say I don't like his stuff, I think it's great.
I'm sure he can draw and paint many other things besides 2K stuff.
New artists don't need this kind of feedback from this message bord.
We all know how damning it can be.

I agree though, if you want *constructive* feedback don't post here, so far as I've seen most feedback has been completely fawning and totally useless. That kind of feedback is best obtained from yer dear old mum who'll quite happily tell you everything is lovely.

If you can't see the contradiction inherent in these two statements then you're barmy. Let me spell it out though: encouragement and criticism are TWO different things, you can't ask for criticism and then moan because it wasn't encouraging.

Virtulent means it suffers from the mildew that grows on the underside of a potato left on the surface of a field, instead of being properly harvested.

Anyway just writing it off as another sub-bisley clone is a mistake, SOME of the painted work looked bisleyesque, but the pen and ink didn't.  So its just something that is noticeable on some of the painted stuff.

A proper criticism for me would have gone beyond a mere superficial observation (can you see what I'm doing, I'm criticising the criticism).

Anyway if there's a whole load of Gregory stuff in one place I'll give it my enfeebled opinion.

There are plenty of artist working for 2K who do both b/w work & colour work, and many who's b/w is then coloured by someone else.
(E.G. we've all seen Doherty's painted stuff - but he didn't colour his recent Meg Dredd story)

So I'm wondering what Gregory's art would be like coloured by someone else..?  Would that satisfy your nobisley opinions PVS?

And it wasn't really blanket approval I was giving.  If it was then I'd have said "WOW!  That's so great you should paint all the Dredds from now, and have a new Strontium Dog stroy while your at it!" rather than saying it'd be good to see you on the cover.
I like the art.  I appreciate the 'Bisley' similarities but I don't think of it as clone or sub-clone.  Some covers are very weak (I didn't think much of the '13' one recently) but I reckon that Greg's art could give a very strong image for the front of the comic.
