Okay well as far as longshots go this is up there with the very best, but read an interesting article in the Telegraph today

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/technology-companies/9839540/Kickstarter-entrepreneurs-doing-big-business-in-the-UK.html.

The site supports a range of projects including inventors, artists, small business and FILM projects from what they call crowdfunding. Essentially individuals donate towards a target that is set and are rewarded on a sliding scale for their donation. If the target is not met in its entirity within the deadline date no money is taken from the donors accounts.

A number of film projects have been successfully funded, amongst the highest being around the $400,000 mark.A long way short admittedly, however, the properties put up were extremely niche and still made their target.

If investors could be found to put up say half the money required for a Dredd sequel on the condition that the other half is found through private donation, which would help guarantee their investment then possibilities arise.Whilst not doing well at the box office,  DVD/Blue Ray sales should make Dredd profitable. If half the risk is removed then maybe a sequel would not look such a daunting prospect.

Rewards offered for supporting films on Kickstart seem to go from blog-updates, free merchandise, artwork, free tickets to the launch or previews and so on.Dredd could offer ,according to the size of donation, more sizeable rewards -props from the film (no small thing), watching the film being made, the part of an extra, even a line of dialogue if the donation was large enough.

Of course the powers that be would need to be on-board including Karl and a script presented

More realistically , if they wanted to try to launch something smaller and more manageable from the 2000ad universe instead this might be something to look at (why did the ABC Warriors animated series not follow through, was that purely financial problems?).

Just throwing this out as an idea

Actually, there is a small group of use working on a Kickstarter 2000ad Animated Project. We're currently trying to get our proposal together. The exciting thing is...this will actually (If we get the funding) be done by professionals in the field. We'll have more on the subject as we work on it.

Interesting. Got to ask, can you say which 2000ad character(s) it is Flint?

I reckon it's an anthology or Strontium Dog.

There was a thread I saw here earlier about a Dredd project on kickstarter (tabletop set based on Block Wars). They got it funded.

WOW! Very impressed with how they presented there.

Their game achieved their target and well beyond reaching $100,000 with an excellent and very clear sliding set of rewards.

This site looks like a winner. (Hint, Hint)   ;) :D

New Rogue trooper minatures games launched on Kickstarter by the same people also seems to be doing well.

What? You mean the one that's being regularly promoted here?

Dredd has had enough Kickstarter debacles in the last 24 hours.

No prizes for guessing why that project got swiftly cancelled! Why on Earth did they ever think they'd get away with that? £14k?

Some people are extraordinarily naive/ignorant when it comes to copyright laws - I was contacted via Deviantart recently by a website wanting to use one of my movie posters in a book of fan-made movie posters they are publishing.

I replied, asking if they actually had permission from the copyright holders for the relevant films, as surely they were liable to get sued if otherwise. Surprise surprise, I've had no reply.

I think they crossed the line in the definition of a fan-film with Dredd. Sneakyzebra seem like an established production company using the IPs of others to promote themselves and their work. They were asking other people to pay them for that pleasure with the Dredd Kickstarter. Not exactly getting no payment out of it either; they themselves were subsequently getting promoted and creating product for their youtube channel which I presume does corporate work and original material but also gets away with using IPs belonging to others by doing them as parodies:

If they'd taken their company name off the Dredd production and not printed t-shirts and offered DVDs/merchandise to backers, it may have gone a little easier for them but at the end of the day no matter how noble their intentions - not doubting them at all - it's not their property to use for personal gain.

Ironically their company slogan is: "Never underestimate the sneakiness!".

No Kickstarters or pay for it yourself and ask permission.
