For that is the name of mine very own blog! Yup. I letter stuff. But you guys knew that, right?

Now, generally, I don't post a lot here by way of samples or whatnot. I sort of view this board as the venerable Jim Campbell's little bit o' turf. But I've decided that my blog has grown sufficiently in stature and girth - yes, GIRTH - that I'd post a thread here to draw your attention to it. You can find it here:

http://letterpunk.wordpress.com/

I update fairly irregularly, but as the page doubles as an online portfolio, you can expect to see stuff pop up there in due course.

Today's latest post is to do with a rather full page I lettered for the Transformers Multiverse fan project, which I also run along with my little team of co-ordinators. I worked pretty hard on this one, so I'm feeling inclined to get a few eyes on it.

Now, I'm out of this thread before Jim shows up and beats me with iron bars, or something.

Lettering is such an under appreciated skill. Great work and a great blog too. Bookmarked.

I love the 'old video games as comics' post - that's inspired!

HdE

Cheers, chums and pals!

Funny thing: I was sure that post about retro arcade games as comics would garner more of a response. But it came and went with barely a flicker of interest. And something I didn't mention there: The first time I ever tried to draw a comic in anything other than a cartoony style (at the tender age of 10) it was a Gauntlet comic.

It was dreadful!

Lawks-a-lawdy! New blog post!

This one's pushing both a new book I'm working on, and one of my pet agendas. Click and behold the difference hiring a practiced letterer will make to your comic!

Brand new blog update for June:
http://letterpunk.wordpress.com/2014/06/06/the-letterer-also-writes-part-2-a-star-falls/

This one shows off a few pages from a short story I wrote and lettered for the Metaverse comics anthology, which was launched at the Cardiff film and comic con in March of this year.

'A Star Falls' was drawn by Dan Harris, who also pencils the Eagle award nominated small press comic 'Lou Scannon'.

Enjoy!

I've only gone and updated it again!

This month's post is a shameless plug for two indie books I've lettered that have attracted a bit of attention. Go see what you think.

(And, would you believe it... one of them is actually the first superhero book I've ever lettered!)

I honestly don't know anything about lettering (like who does the speech bubbles, how much input the artist/author has in sound effects text, etc)...Your post with the before and after lettering is really cool - the difference is amazing!

Hope you don't mind if I link you on my tumblr (with credit of course).

No problem at all! The more connections, the merrier. :)

I do have it in mind over coming months to try to expand the focus of the blog a little. I've got a pressing need to scare up some work right now, so mostly I've been using the blog as a way to showcase what I can do and share samples. But if there are any specific queries or details about lettering you might be curious about, by all means let me know. I may just work it into a future update.

I've just added a new post for November, this time showcasing a few coloured pages of LOU SCANNON, which regulars on the UK convention circuit might well have happened upon before now.

http://letterpunk.wordpress.com/2014/11/21/lou-scannon-in-colour/

There's a bit of a rider to this month's post as well - Scannon colourist Kris Carter (who has also worked on Transformers and Wynnona Earp for IDW, as well as Doctor Who comics) is in need of a bit of extra work right now. (I can relate, buddy!)

If you have  comic that needs a reliable, talented colourist, you'd do well to get in touch with Kris. He is, as the cool kids say, The Bomb.

And his hair is AWESOME!

Brand new blog entry!
https://letterpunk.wordpress.com/2015/02/07/astronauts-and-mounties/

This one's showcasing a couple of books that I feel might go down pretty well with you lot. And, naturally, I say a few short words on how I approached the lettering on each.

Good googly-moogly! Another update?!

I'm airing a short fan comic here that I put together with my pal Roy D. Stiffey. It's a five page GODZILLA short! So, if you fancy sort of 'what if' tale featuring the King Of Monsters, and can tolerate my rambling for a bit about how I went about lettering it, head on over to the blog and take a peek.

Here's the link for the relevant entry:

Good stuff, sir. Also enjoying your strip Broken Goddess, too. ;)

Thank you, kind sir!

Worth mentioning, I've made what could be described as 'a big, fat mistake' on the Godzilla strip. I only went and submitted my firt draft by mistake - d'oh!

(Yes folks - you heard it here first. I use my own lettered pages as a draft for edits. Totally unprofessional, and something that drives me mad when other people do it to me.)

Currently slammed with work, but I' replace the pages with the final, proper version soon.
