Another strong week here...in week ... scchhh whatever (Week 8 keeping track fans). I mean that's all relative, but for this Round there are some great thrills coming up in this week's tie. I mean sure the normal peppering of dross, but some really strong thrills and for me at least, interesting ties.

We start off the week with a doozy. The solo series of one of Dredd's most fascinating characters, the development and story for whom is one of my favs. He however butts up against one of the new thrills that really has made an impact. When appearing alongside Megatropolis in the Meg recently all claims that we were in a modern golden age were surely blown away? Tough call, as the cameras roll out to cover one of the top tier ties of this round.

Which most rattles your thrill-receptors:

Streets of Dan Francisco- more info

Vs.

DreadNoughts - more info

Just reply in this thread naming your favourite thrill of these two series at the beginning of your post (or use Bold tags so I can spot it easily) and say what you like about these wonderful stories after that.

Match ends early on the morning of Thursday 16th December and the winner gets a place in Round 2 (of 9!!!).

What on Earth is ALL of this?

For those that need 'um and can be bothered to follow 'um there's some simple rules

Any questions, just ask as ever - and have FUN!

When I die, I want to die like my grandfather who died peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming like all the passengers in his car.

Old age is the Lord's way of telling us to step aside for something new. Death's in case we didn't take the hint.

No offence to Dan Francisco, who is a surprisingly interesting character for someone who seemed to be invented for a throwaway story, but his one actual solo series can't hold a candle to the intensity and worldbuilding that is Dreadnaughts.

On the other hand, I don't recall Dreadnaughts having any single big image as wonderful as this one...

Have people speculated before on if 'Dreadnoughts' the title is some sort of play on 'Dredd 00s', to signify that it's like Judge Dredd: Year One but going ack even before the number 1? Seems like the sort of wordplay Michael Carroll would be into.

Ohhh that's clever. Would also explain the 'N' which I promise I didn't make up - see here https://shop.2000ad.com/catalogue/MEG429P
