Motivated...(music swells)...to...sing!

Sorry, last night's Doctor Who has fried my brain.

I think we just have to accept that Doctor Who is firmly for kids again, and put up or shut up.

It was bad, but not bad enough for me to stop watching. The frenetic pacing annoyed me, but Ncuti and Millie were great, and there were some good bits mixed among the panto stuff. I can do without the musical numbers, though.

Quote from: IndigoPrime on 09 May, 2024, 11:13:49 AMBut the fact Dredd hasn't had a reboot is a differentiator in and of itself. And there have been pseudo reboots, such as the various attempts by other publishers, the movie version, 2099, etc. I'm not sure binning continuity and starting afresh would benefit Dredd in any meaningful way for what is still ultimately a niche character. It'd surely just piss off those who are invested.
But the current situation can't be sustained indefinitely. If not a reboot, then what?

Quote from: IndigoPrime on 09 May, 2024, 08:55:16 AMUnless 2000 AD itself is ending (and the Meg too), there's no way in hell the comic kills off its key IP.
They can always reboot. They killed off Superman, and James Bond. Dredd is the outlier in not having had a continuity reset in nearly 50 years.

The Dredd story reminded me a little of the Steven Spielberg movie Duel - a thrilling chase with, as I recall (it's a long time since I've seen it), a somewhat anticlimactic ending.

When somebody put a bunch of old Fantasy Advertisers up online, my first thought was "Oh Grud*, that means my old letters to them are going to resurface".

*=may not have been the actual word I used.

Artist Jon Haward, who drew some Judge Dredds and Tales of Telguuth back in the '90s and '00s (news comes via Sue Grant's Facebook page).

Can we take a moment to mourn the passing of, um, Burt in this week's Damage Report?

Quote from: GordonR on 30 April, 2024, 02:12:02 PMWhen Pat got that private, marked confidential email from Matt telling him he was passing on any more Flesh stories and Pat immediately put it up on social media.....was that just the quarrel with Rebellion too?
How do you know it was marked confidential?

Quote from: Richard on 30 April, 2024, 12:32:13 PMI don't know if Judge Urko means Mark or Pat, but I doubt that Matt Smith needs either of their help after successfully running 2000AD for 22 years now, during which time it has gone from strength to strength.
And Pat has praised Cyber-Matt as "the best editor 2000AD has ever had", which presumably includes himself. His quarrel is with Rebellion.

Suggestions / Re: Judge Dredd TV series

My guess is that if the Rogue movie lives up to its promise of "Avatar-quality special effects for a fraction of Avatar's budget", then they might end up going down the same route for the MC1 TV show, using very realistic CGI rather than live-action.

Oh its just basically Elseworlds.
Kind of. It's taking separate 2000AD strips and mashing them together. The Red Seas and Stickleback, Zombo and Harlem Heroes etc.
