Books & Comics / Re: Jonathan Hickman?

The thing with Hickman, is that, his superhero comics in general are a slowburn. He will mention things early on, and then never touch on them again for months, but often, when he does eventually bring something back up, it turns out to have been very important. Generally, it isn't a good idea to jump into the middle of his Fantastic Four run because of this. Everything sort of seems convoluted.

But, as said before, he is definitely one of the best writers working in comics today.

Thanks Emperor, you've given me a lot to think about. Considering my story was one of those "it was all a shared hallucination" tales, I guess I better think a whole lot harder on it.

Pitchfest Bingo sounds both delightful and excruciating. That list is chockful of canned ideas, on my own part. I guess, that's the whole great minds, and all that stuff, at work.

Everyone and his mother has thrown a FutureShock Tharg's way, at some point. I just wonder how common it is to see very similar ideas used often. Is this a common enough occurrence that sending one in that even sounds like it has been previously done is a death curse? Also, what are some themes that you guys, as readers, think have been done to death in the prog?

Books & Comics / Re: Whats everyone reading?

Just finished reading Criminal: The Last of the Innocent, and all I can say is wow. I'm a huge fan of Ed Brubaker, but, this time around, I'm even more impressed than usual. Only a master writer could turn Archie and his friends into a bunch of selfish irresponsible douchebags, and not make me run in the other direction. Luckily, Brubaker is that writer, and I can wholeheartedly recommend it.

Sean Phillips art, on the other hand, is beautiful. It captures the spirit of those old Archie comics, and then subverts the charm. Under Sean Phillips' hand , Archie's world seems more real than our own.

Truthfully, if you're in comics to make a lot of money, you should probably get out quickly. Most people in comics don't make much dough. In fact, quite a few people end up losing money, in exchange for the feeling of a job well done, and the knowledge that your voice has been heard.

My first story is being published in Crazyfox's aforementioned anthology. I'm 18 and will be writing comics for the rest of my life, but do I think I'll be making big money doing it? No. I just enjoy it. Love it for the sake of it, not the money it can make you.

In other words; I work for peanuts, Tharg. Call me.

The Gutters, while often offensive, never ceases to make me laugh. Great work, Gibson. Those are some really tight lines.

Posting a cribbed 2000 A.D. Future Shock would be, well, laughable. Posting one by the most celebrated writer in comics history, a name up there with Stan Lee, would be crazy. Posting one on the forum of a site whose comic featured said writer's work, that's just downright career suicide.

Luckily, you were just suffering from a brain fart.

Would supervillains be welcome? I have this idea about a team of them who steal things from other villains.

Something else to think about; If your son enjoys comics, I would go with the Kindle Fire, because the regular Kindle readers are severely lacking when it comes to comics. If he just wants to read novels though, I would suggest a regular Kindle, because the eInk display is much easier on the eyes, and the interface is generally crisper. Some of the Kindle readers also have a free 3G connection, that is available at all times, so buying a book couldn't be easier.

I'm one of the four.

Owen,
I'm loving the artwork. Your stuff is just so expresssive. It reminds me a little of Robert Crumb, but maybe that's just me.

radiator,
Nice pencils. If you were an animator, I would watch any show you worked on, just to see your characters move.
I've tried to use Google Sketchup, but not being an artist, I find it difficult to make anything resembling anything. It is really fun to mess around with though.

If you are a new writer who has never been published in 2000 A.D. then they only take Future Shocks.
