Prog / prog 1831 : After Shocks!
04 May, 2013, 11:13:07 AM
Cover : Terrific wrap-around effort from Ben Wllsher. Would love him to do another painted one, though. His painting skills are immense.

Dredd: Nice flash-back usage, with the recorder.....thingy. Some lovely art from PJ, who just gets better n better.

Dandridge: Mmmm, well sort of glad it's over. Like I said last week, seems to have stayed on a little too long. Not terrible, but hardly great.

3Thriller: Really good. Love the idea behind it. The comic page interludes work very well and Boo Cooks art is staggering. A classic, including last week amazing cover, unless something goes very wrong with next weeks final part. ;-P

Stickleback: More of the same. Lovely to look at and some brilliant dialogue.

Zombo: Hilarious script, as usual with some sublime Flint art. Zombos face in the final panel is just great!

There's a great Cliff Robinson full pager for the new Sin/Dex thing, presumably next weeks cover?
Good, solid prog.

It seems that both Sony and Microsoft maybe gearing up to release the new versions of their home consoles at the end of this years. The internet is full of rumours and speculation about the specs of both and talk of an always connected XBOX with no way of selling used games getting many gamers in a tizzy! This could really change the way a lot of people pay and play thier games. It would also, most likely, spell the end of the highstreet game retailer. So, what do you guys think?

Note : I couldn't see a thread about this. If there is already one, please feel free to ignore this one and let it die peacefully.

Prog / Prog 1780 : PSI : Mega City One
21 April, 2012, 10:57:54 AM
Cover:  Lovely shot of a young Anderson, surveying the city. It's by Edmond Bagwell. You know it's gonna be good. Nuff said.

Dredd: The search for Haldane heats up. Cracking scriptage from Wagner, but it's Flints amazing art that gets me here. You can tell he loved drawing this episode. The design of the various citz....the action sequences...truly stunning.
FLESH: Some back story about Claw Carver and some scenes with the new Dino Riders. Bit of a slowdown from the previous weeks, and all the better for it. It's time to get the story moving. McKays art is superb.

The Zaucer of Zilk: Scrambles my brain every week. Have no idea whats going to happen, but I know that it will be something bonkers. Love it so much. McCarthys art had me drooling this week.

Age of the Wolf 2: All action episode with a great cliff hanger. Really enjoy this series. It's not the best thrill ever, but it is very very good.

Cadet Anderson: At first I must admit I was a little disappointed that Bagwell hadn't drawn this, considering the cover (no slight on Yoewell intended.) but as it turns out, this is a very well  drawn strip. The colours by Eva De La Cruz are lovely. The script is pretty good too, with Cassandra on the case of an assinated homeless woman. Nice.
Alltogether a great prog. Not a duffer in sight.  :D

Prog / Prog 1777 : BARK AT THE RUNE!
31 March, 2012, 11:57:55 AM
Cover : Very nice effort from Jon Davis Hunt. Not especially dynamic, but a nice pic nonetheless.

Dredd : Dramatic and disturbing events in the day of chaos.  Terrifiic cliff hanger which could potentially bring down the Judge System for good. (Doubt it though!)

Flesh : All action episode this week with spot on Dino pics from McKay. I would prefer a smoother line, but the artwork jumps off the page.

Zilk : Mental, but still making a strange sort of sense! Loved the pause in the strip. The dialogue is top, too. "Special suppliment to mourn Prince of Harts!"

Wolf : Continues. It has some lovely art and a good script. It's the weakest thing in the prog at the moment, but only because everything else rocks.

Dante : John Burns draws such sexy ladies! He also draws everything else perfectly, too. A master!
Altogether a cracker of a prog. Spoilt, we are!

Prog / Prog 1772 : Red in tooth and claw!
25 February, 2012, 11:01:09 AM
Lovely wrap-around cover from Jon Davis-Hunt.

Dredd: Wrips along at a fair old pace. Nice little twist at the end of this weeks episode. Wonder what Bim and Jim are going to do with that vial....?

Age of the Wolf : Cracking opening episode. Davis-Hunts artwork has taken yet another leap in quality. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Dante: The excitement mounts as we head for the storys conclusion. Great cliff hanger. The first and last pages this week are sooo good.

Grey Area: Probably the weakest thing in the prog this week, but is helped along by some nice art from the Carter droid.

What if....? : Lovely little self-contained story revealing what would have happened if Max Bubba hadn't killed Wulf all those years ago. Gorgeous Ezquerra artwork, left in monochrome, which is a very good thing. Ah, the nostalgia! The ending was a bit too sign posted, but it was great to see Wulf get some payback!

Books & Comics / MUDMAN by Paul Grist.
26 November, 2011, 12:40:06 PM
Just finished reading issue one of Paul Grist' MudMan. Really enjoyable book. I used to love his Kane book back in the day and this looks like another winner. Anyone else pick it up?  :D

Prog / Prog 1745 : FIRST BLOOD!
30 July, 2011, 10:05:01 AM
A brilliantly menacing cover from the great Niel Roberts. In a Brucey bonus voice..."so much better than last weeks."

Dredd: Continues apace as we finally have a lead onto the terrorists. Faultless comic strippage from Wagner and Willsher. They make a fab double act for this story.

3Riller: Final part. This has been a real treat and I'm glad to say this last episode does not dissapoint. The last panel in particular will stay in my mind for some time, I think. Disturbing.

Savage: Awesome, all action episode. Mills is on top form here, as is Goddard. His artwork is some of the best in recent years. "Vorsprung durch Technik", indeed!

Sin/Dex: The weakest thing in this weeks prog, but still racks up some entertaining moments. Good stuff.

Zombo: My....god. The origin of Zombo. Brilliant. Mad. And brilliant!

Prog / Prog 1744 : Martial Law!
23 July, 2011, 10:10:03 AM
The slightly less than eye catching cover hides one of the best progs in ages....

Dredd: Masterclass in ramping up the tension from Wagner. Willsher goes from strength to strength too. Perfect thrill.

Savage: Unfortunately, I flicked through the prog before reading it and saw the last page of this, which took some of the awesomeness away...but only some. A landmark episode, I feel. Top marks to all droids involved.

3rilller: Continues as of last week. That is, disturbing and brilliantly written. The art is top notch, too. Micheal Dowling....the name rings a bell, but have we seen his work in the prog before??

Sin/Dex: Probably the weakest thrill, but still great.

Zombo: Nuts but genius. I rather embarrassingly tweeted Rob Williams last week to congratulate him for Zombos quality. Heh. Sorry Mr Ewing. Love Flints rougher coloured art here, too.

A prog that I wish had taken longer to read...it's all over until next week, sob.  :(

Prog / Prog 1734 : The Rookie.
14 May, 2011, 10:45:20 AM
Nice eye catching, Anderson cover from a new droid (to me...) Garry Brown.

Dredd. Ends quite satisfyingly with the villain getting his dues. Arsom, indeed. Willshers artwork is as fantastic as ever, but the fem-judges clothing situation was a bit too cheesy.  :D

Red Seas. Cracking strip. Great last page this week, too. Can't wait to see next weeks episode.

Cadet Anderson. Probably the weakest strip this week, despite the Ezquerra duos art being as cool as ever. Nothing really wrong with it and I did actually enjoy it, but Grant rarely thrills me too much. O.K.

Dante. Ticks all the boxes for me. Brilliant story, amazing artwork. Another great last page that makes the wait for the next installment all the more difficult.

Absalom. Only three weeks in and, like Dante, this is top, top strippage. Quality story and dialogue. Trevallions artwork blows me away. It's very Duncan Fegredo hellboy-esque, which is a very good thing indeed. The missus also mentioned how good it was, which is very rare for her. She normally only mentions if she doesn't like something!

Prog / Prog 1730 : HORROR OF THE HANGMAN!
16 April, 2011, 10:21:45 AM
Awesome cover by Davis-Hunt, as featured on Pete wells covers blog. A beaut!

Dredd: Great little self- enclosed story by Micheal Carroll, but the main attraction here is the return of Brian Talbot to 2000AD, ably assisted by his son, Alwyn on colouring duties. Stunning artwork, some really great background/incidental touches in there, too. More please Tharg?

FLESH: Business as usual here. I'm loving this, personally. I've a new found respect for McKays art on this, after struggling with my contribution to the weekly themed art blog thingy! Drawing dinos isn't easy and these ones are brilliantly realised. That last panel is a doozy...

Dandridge: Wraps up this week. I've enjoyed this run more than the first, thanks in no small part to Jon Davis-Hunts gorgeous artwork. I look forward to its return.

Twisted Tale: A fun, simple but rewarding tale. Serves 'em bloody right, that's all I've got to say on the matter...!

Red Seas: Business as usual here, too and that's no bad thing.  So, Dancers in the firing line now. Nice stuff. Top dialogue, especially from 'Jimmy Riddle'. Love Red Seas, me. :D

Games / Crysis 2
25 March, 2011, 09:17:10 PM
Anyone pick this up today? Had about an hour of the single player so far. Incredible stuff  :o. It looks and plays beautifully. The amount of detail and lighting effects they have squeezed out of the Xbox 360 is mighty impressive, considering its age.
Had one game on the Multi so far. It's solid enough, but unlocking game types as you progress seems like a strange design choice.   :-\

Prog / Prog 1724 : FLESH IS BACK!
05 March, 2011, 09:32:18 AM
Aewsome prog this week. Dredd finally catches up with Deller, after a very gruesome firefight. Good stuff. OOther highlights in clude Shakara, the last page of which is absolutely bonkers and amazing. Atavar takes a nice violent (for once...) twist. Now Flesh....looks like it's going to be great. Nice opener and intro to some of the characters. James Mckays work looks a little rougher than I expected, but it gives it a grimy look that suits well. Theres a lovely Time Twister in the mix, too. Keep it coming green guy. :D

Prog / Prog 1699 _ Hit the deck!
21 August, 2010, 09:07:51 AM
Really good prog this week, with several thrills coming to a head.

Cover. As I said in the cover thread, this is gorgeous. Looks even better 'in the flesh', so to speak.

Dredd. Quite a moving one off, written by top droid Al Ewing. Some great art by PJ, brilliantly coloured by Blythe, too.

Red Seas. Comes to an end this week. It's probably me, but I'm not sure I totally understood what happens to Dancer...might require a re-read.

Strontium Dog. Oooooooh, what a cliff hanger. No real surprise how this pans out. I think most people have an inkling, but all may not be as it appears.... Some truly great dialogue between Middenface and the wizards.  :D

Savage. Bill gets let off a bit lightly if you ask me. Apart from that, it's been a fantastic series. Patrick Goddards work, in particular, has blown me away week after week.

Prog / Prog 1698 - Grave Secrets
14 August, 2010, 09:02:03 AM
Solid prog...

Cover. Its a strange one. I'm not really sold on it, despite it coming from the combined mega-talents of Mr Robinson and Mr Teague. There is something about Alpha and Middenface...nobody seems to be able to draw them quite as well as Carlos.

Dredd. Highlight of the prog. A hilarious one shot story combined with Boos stunning artwork make this a winner....even if the storys perp isn't one!

Red Seas. Dancers crew finally come head to head with their foes. Thats about all that happens in this episode. Tune in next week for more!

Sin/Dex. Everything ties up nicely in this series final chapter. This has been a very enjoyable outing for the gunsharks. Williams has gone up a few notches in my estimation.

Savage. Again, a great final part. Can't beleive this has been 14 parts. 14?! Its flown by. I'll miss it next week.

Stront. Middenface and 3boobs finally locate Johnnys coffin. Not really surprised by how this is panning out. One thought, though. If they do get to resurrect Johnny...will he get his peepers back?  :-\

Prog / Prog 1694 : Dog Rescue!
17 July, 2010, 09:10:14 AM
Excellent prog.

Cover. Not bad.

Dredd. Jon Hawards fatties strip finally arrives and its a great fun one, especially after the recent serious story arcs. Loved seeing that splash page again. So much to spot!

Red Seas. Not much happens this week, but I still love it.

Sin/Dex. As time goes on, Sin/Dex is growing on me more and more. Anthony Williams art seems to have gone up a notch lately. Great stuff.

Savage. However did Patrick Goddards art come under fire by that 'account hacker' recently? This is some of the best artwork i've seen in the prog in recent years. The story has started to loose me slightly, but still enjoying it. And look forward to seeing how it pans out.

Strontium Dog. Possible spoilerness....So, it looks like we are heading for some sort of resurrection. Dont know if this is a good idea or not, but I trust Wagner to do whats right!
