No disrespect to the '77 lads or anyone else making fanzines, but anyone can print books and sell them from a car boot, however, almost nobody turns a profit from doing so.  I imagine Mills' plan is to actually be able to continue to make Spacewarp beyond the first issue.

The77 isn't isn't a fanzine.
Also I got paid for my strip art, not an huge amount of money admittedly but in my experience of contributing to both fanzines and indie publications this is a first. This was not an agreed page rate but a cash dividend because the Kickstarter went several times over its target i.e. it made a profit.

Apologies if there is a discussion for this elsewhere but I couldn't seem to find one.

Has anyone else read The 77, the "new retro anthology" that recently came to life due to a successful Kickstarter. I bought a copy last week and overall really enjoyed it. It reminded me of Toxic! more than 2000AD and, with all anthologies, was a bit of a mixed bag in places, but there is a lot to enjoy and look forward to more of.

Highlights for me were:

Temporal Anarchy "Punk In Drublic" - a Futureshock with a punk rock twist hosted by a literal cyber-punk named Philthy Luca, which tells the tale of punk band and a magical safety pin. A fun story with fantrastic art. Great gross-out stuff.

V - a futuresport battle arena sees forced combatants need 5 victories to gain their freedom. Great excuse for a big scrap, but still manages to  weave a complete story. Great art too.  I hope future issues are more one-and done battles like this.

Division '77 - looks to be great future-war story in the Rogue Trooper vain.I'm well up for more of this.

The Screaming Hand - A man is protected/cursed by the phantom of a screaming hand. This is fantastic and I am eager for more. MORE!

Angel - I loved the art in this even if the story itself doesn't entirely satisfy, though I get the impression it's chapter one of an opus.

Overall, a great read and well done to everyone who made it happen. Roll on issue 2.

It looks great - there's some terrific art in there and I've always enjoyed Pat's writing.
However, how often is it going to come out? It's really, really hard to get people to like new stuff enough to buy it and if you somehow manage to grab their imagination unless you have more content ready to go interest can tail off very quickly. I think there should have been four issues with defined arcs for each story maybe produced bi monthly. Unless I'm missing something of course

Always nice to know that you're not firing content out into a void 

I agree with everything being said about Kenneth Niemand's old school Dredd (It's always a good sign when Dredd doesn't turn up until the end of part one): but also a shout out for the art. PJ Holden seems to have taken it to another level recently: I'm no expert, but that last panel looks a tricky angle to pull off, and it's wonderfully dramatic.

It's stuff like this that should be in the Regened progs...

Completely agree with the art - nicely the right side of cartoony and the last panel was a masterpiece in setting up an ominous lead in to the next episode.

I've never watched a single episode of Breaking Bad, but I have massively enjoyed every season of Better Call Saul

Birds of Prey

An astoundingly lazy, badly scripted, poorly put together pile of nonsense. I was willing to give this a try since I think Harley Quinn as a character has potential (even though I'm not really a big DC fan) and Margot Robbie has screen presence but this was just bad on so many levels. Harley Quinn has absolutely no character arc and remains pretty much exactly the same from the first minute to the last.

A waste of time.

Absolutely nonsense - chasing "wayfinders" all over the place so you can find the mysterious Sith homeworld? They built one thousand Star Destroyers and fully crewed the whole armada - out of what? Fresh air? Surely someone would have noticed all the materials, the "recruited" soldiers being shipped out to the "Unknown Spaces" (god I loathe that term - it's so lazy)

In addition, unfortunately, I think Daisy Ridley is very uncoordinated and is basically not athletic at all. She must have had plenty of fencing or sword training during the process of shooting the three movies but she still wields that light sabre like someone trying to swat a wasp with a broom.

I remember really looking forward to the Force Awakens and it started of sooo well. The first thirty minutes were fantastic - I literally watched it with a massive smile of my face. Then we got rehash (Star Killer base), complete breaking of the rules of the universe that story is set in (the ludicrous Holdo manoeuver of the Last Jedi), confusing attempts to recycle old characters with no clear purpose and finally with this film, for me, just apathy and boredom.

I don't get the cover pun.

Maybe it's like "Phwoar! In the Sun" - harking back to the old days of third page titillation
