So after regaining control of my mind and body after the life changing experience that was the movie..the inner nerd has awoken once more and I shall be creating my very own Lawgiver replica..
Based on an existing airsoft replica of thw GLock it's not gonna be a quick process but after a couple of days of farting around in photoshop I've come up with the following plans which will (hopefully) include a working LCD screen
wish me luck....

Respect
Pedro.
It's pretty close..
any criticisms from the master are, of course, most welcome! :D
You're missing a bracket with a sculpted saddle that fits around the back of the frame of the Glock at the top of the pistol grip..
Carry on :)
oh yeah! I should mention that these plans (in red) are for the flatter parts only, the black parts and the back of the handgrip will be modelled by hand in sculpy or some sort of modelling clay..is that the part(s) you mean?
In that behind the scenes featurette thinggy there's one of my animations showing the assemble of it in 3D.. That should give you a decent idea of it's parts breakdown.
That's mostly where I got the details from for my dodgy interpretation.
It's a very revealing few seconds of your wonderful animation...maybe I should watch it again if I'm missing something big :-[
getting closer...test fitting of some hurriedly printed and glued parts...it's coming along
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v89/preddyboy666/IMG_0455.jpg)
Handy if you had a 3d printer
I'm doing it oldskool..cos I want to..I could get a 3D printer if I wanted..yeah I could, honestly, anyday, my nan's got one...in her loft..but you can't see it cos she's asleep.
I've always though Dredd's gun needed a new kind of ammunition - PRITT STICK!
Only joking, should be great when it's finished!
whaddya mean? it IS finished!
armour piercing...ricochet...sticky...
Looking forward to seeing how it turns out!
I'd love to have a play with a 3D Printer.
They're definitely getting better.

the dog in the bottom picture is incredibly realistic!
Seriously these devices cross the line between technology and witchcraft as far as I'm concerned! Consider me boggled.
Looking forward to regular updates, I love a good build thread!
Look forward to seeing the gun done.. as for your mates one, I may be wrong but he hasn't 'hardened' the foam has he? Theres a good tutorial thing that was posted by another forum member on the creative common that linked to costumer 'X robots' experiment with a process to coat foam with pva glue and then a thin resin plastic coat. Gives a good finish andcan be done on card too.
nice stuff :D
new update!
So the materials arrived for me to begin cutting out the templates proper...however they are the wrong sort, kinda soft and certainly not durable enough for a handleable piece..grrrrrr
anyway I decided to make the best of it and even though it's inferior quality it is still the right thickness so template test phase two engage!
turns out my templates are pretty much spot on! woohoo!!!
Now I just await delivery of the proper base materials before I can properly crack on with this badboy
P.
Looking good!
Also - off topic - That your Triumph?
thanks! and yep 07' 1050....my baby
Nice, I got a '08 Street Triple, awesome bike. :)
do you ride it around pretending to be a Judge on his Lawmaster?
Nice thread! Always like to see how people make items, especially when they put their heart into it. Looking forward to seeing more pictures of the progress!

Yes... :-[
(I repeat the 'Do you require back up' 'No!' bit just before I gun it past some cars...)
Speaking of trumpets, slightly O.T., but we tried to talk them into using a Triumph Rocket III as a base for the Lawmaster.. But they weren't having it.
Would have been expensive, but completely and utterly awesome.

Why that bike in particular?
Because, with a bit of careful dressing, it would have a big presence, as well as be able to perform. Ultimately it's not a movie about a bike.
it's a hell of a bike and does kinda have that oldskool lawmaster vibe to it too, but yeah 10 grand is probably a steep starting point!

slowly but surely this thing is starting to take on some kinda Lawgivery shape :D
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v89/preddyboy666/IMG_0559.jpg)
Looking good so far! :)
Thats looking so good you best be sure it doesnt electrocute you when you pick it up.
That is coming along quite nicely..
..now where did I leave mine?? :|
look high! look low!!! :o
Low would be my best bet.. It's in the cellar somewhere.
make sure you don't go in there after dark! at least not alone or without a shotgun/chainsaw/baseball bat/hazmat suit
while I'm sitting on the Lawgiver project til I get more resources here's a little something I'm working on to go with it...still a bit of a ways o go but aaaaaaaaalmost there....

Brilliant stuff! These threads are the best. How have i missed this one?
Plenty more photos please!
outstanding work on the helmet ... would like a blow by blow account on how you made this
was about to start my own helmet starting from a paper template
http://www.acg.org.au/forum/index.php?showtopic=2621&st=20
Sweet baby Jovis! Consider this a second request for a tutorial, you sickeningly talented blighter!
I didn't make the helmet from scratch! but you can read more about it here if ya'll be innerested...http://www.therpf.com/f9/barons-blue-realm-dredd-2012-helmet-167918/
That helmet is just AMAZING. I want one. :(
So, to clarify, there is someone out there who could provide an interested party with an unpainted cast of the helmet for a nominal fee to cover his or her production costs?
there was yes, but I believe he's not making them anymore :(
Bum...
there are others out there tho, but for my money, not as accurate as this version.
Very nice. You must be very proud owning that. And you did well with the painting of it. What sort of paint did you use?
thankyou, I'm very proud and will be even prouder when I finish the bugger!
I just used a Halfords brand primer and satin black and a volkswagen tornado red..it all looked a bit sh*t til I went to town on it with some powdered graphite that gives it that lovely metallic lustre (imho anyway)
Here's how it looks up to now...still need to sort out the repirator badge properly and put in the padding...
and after a bit more hard labour on the Lawgiver I'm starting to get together the other side now..real problem is where and how to fit the electronics!! :-[
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v89/preddyboy666/IMG_0618.jpg)
I'm greener than your Speed Triple sat here looking at that helmet.
Looks just brilliant, doesnt it.
Wonder how long it'll be, before we get see a film-accurate Dredd cosplayer doing the rounds?
It looks great as it is. Maybe a metallic spray would have worked better? Also, if you rubbed the graphite shavings over it, how did you seal the effect in? Surely it would rub off with handling?
no metallic paints tend to look like ...well..metallic paint basically, I've used it before on star wars replicas and it end up looking fake.
The graphite needs a good rubbing and it kinda seals itself.
As for a screen accurate cosplayer it might not be too long, there's guys working on the vest, shoulder armour and belt kit but I'll tell you now this is one EXPENSIVE cosplay project!!!!
really love this topic, would love to try and make a Dredd costume for next year or a johnny alpha for next year
are you making the old costume or the newer for film ?

I'm not sure when I'll get started on the rest of the costume, it's primarily a Lawgiver/Helmet/Badge combo at the time being. The new movie costume is a very pricey endeavour if you're going to do it properly.

No biggie. Just buy a PVC spandex suit from Ann Summers, and buy a groin guard from somewhere and paint it gold and you're half sorted for the Stallone look.
I've got that outfit already but I only wear that on "special personal" ocassions ;)
just for fun...

I should add that the art is by the forum's very own CrazyFoxMachine and is taken from the brilliant 'JudgeBlankFace' thread.
Uncanny likeness though, isnt it!
Here's how she sits on the mantel as of now...would like to fiddle a bit with the padding at some point but until then...

Looking rad!
I wantsss it, precioussss.
here we go again..this is build attempt Mk III..pffff..patience young padawan, patience..
Subtle differences but for the more observant geek.............
stripped it all down, built it all up again and started blocking in the 3 dimensional walls, supports, barrell etc...
It's a dirty mess right now but another small step closer to judgement time...

Very nice, mate. Do you plan on putting the LED display in there?
yessir!
It's looking great, a good sense of weight to it where other replicas can look like a toy.
What do you plan on doing with it once it's finished. saucy?
putting on my helmet and running around saying "hotshot, hi-ex, ricochet" and "FREEZE CREEP!"

As long as you're not planning on doing anything silly.
Gave one side a coat of primer to check for flaws etc...and the first finished part..THE FRONT SHROUDS!
Doesn't look as bad as I thought it would do and seems to be minimal clean up/filling to do...happy days!
That'll look great with a paint job, cant wait to see it finished. Good work.
Oh that's amazing!
Coming along nicely! Love this Thread,
Did you swap the gun? That one's blue.
yep, the blue one is a gas powered automatic that will (hopefully if my plans work out) make it fire like the real deal...except instead of hi ex or ricochet the only ammo it holds is little yellow plastic bb's...but one can pretend right? :-[
this sculpting business is triiiiiicky!

a tiny bit more progress but now it's starting to get reaaaallly exciting! :D:D:D
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v89/preddyboy666/IMG_0698.jpg)
That's looking awfully familiar!
The saddle that sits around the back of the grip is in fact on an L shaped bracket (viewed from the side, a U from the top, open end facing the muzzle end), that curves around the ejection port and tucks under the top cover..
I know the part, it's in your pre-vis assembly video right?
It should be, yes..
after trying to re-create said bracket I've realised it won't really fit into the build as it is...grrrrr so I've had to wing it and fabricate my own little tabs to attach the grip saddle to...
And I've been mr blag with regards to securing the bottom half of the Glock to the shrouds using an old plastic rail fitted grip from another gun and hacking it up to make this...
:D
okay this is by no means anywhere near finished...still got absolutely loads to go before it's ready but I thought that after working so hard on this...I'd treat myself to a quick paintjob to spur me on....

HA! That's awesome! :D
The postman just arrived with this...now it's gonna get reaaaally tricky :- I have no idea about electronics whatsoever :D
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v89/preddyboy666/IMG_0738.jpg)
That looks really excellent. Well done. Does it feel sturdy, like it won't feel like something will come loose after a while? I know you've probably already thought of it, but you should add some of the graphite scuffing like you did with the helmet.
its pretty sturdy yeah, needs a screw in the bottom, the barrell secured properly (not with blu-tac like it is now) and the rear grip saddle to be attached to hold it all in place but the build itself feels good and solid..it weighs in at just over 1kg..not sure how much a real one would weigh but it feels like a GUN :D
thanks for the compliments...It needs some loving paintwork done also yup
That's pretty damn close to the screen we had.. The cables for it went up under the top cover, then down to a brain in the front mag and a battery in the pistol grip..
awesome! I'm hoping it can be either way up cos it'd be easier for me if the cable ran up under the top instead of ferreting it under the mag area!!!
god knows how it'll work..or rather if it will at all! but hey this build has been all about learning new things so why not give it a go :D
Okay I'm off out of this grey island for Christmas soon so I'm gonna put this to rest for now until the new year...here's how she stands right now...I'm for sure gonna be thinking about the tweaks and imporovements while I'm away but for now they can wait.

Stunningly good work.
Savage stuff there SS!
Does the screen have data reading on it or a blue light up screen?
niether...yet...I'm having a devil of a time getting the electronics right..BUT it will eventually live and breathe.
But first it's Christmas excess!!!
while my brain struggles to cope with the pesky 'lectronics of this I'm working with a compadre to figure out how to break this into pieces to make a reproducable kit...then hopefully I'll be in the position to arm needy street judges....stay posted creeps...
personalised serial number plate fitted...chuffed!

here's an attempt at an interchangeable 'silenced' barrel option...needs some work but the idea is there..I think...
Are those crayons in the clip? What do you plan on replacing those with?
looks like the connectors for real bullets
Haha yeah they do look a bit like crayons!
It's just a printed image of some real chain linked bullets. I am not sure what will replace them until I've finalised the electronics, I might need the magazine space to hide batteries or a controller chip for the screen.
I might use crayons now :-)
We (when I say we, I mean a chap called Michael Cannone) built a beautiful mechanism that swapped little trays of ammo tips inside the magazine. It never got used, however a photo of the mechanism was placed inside the mag, much like Saucy's effort..

For all those beautiful, brave creative types who want to have a crack at making a Dredd 2012 lawgiver like mine.
Who aren't exclusively members of weird, vindictive cosplay groups
Who have the willingness to superglue their fingers together, to the table, to the wife, partner, dog, curtains and still keep going.
Here are the templates to do so.
It's not a quick fix..it's not an easy job and you WILL need to ask me questions along the way..are you brave enough?
