General / Metro Dredd and FFAF poster mag
12 June, 2004, 05:36:04 PM
Dunno if anyone's posted about this cos I'm new and all those threads look too daunting to look through right now!Just wondered what everyone's take on the Metro Dredd stories and the FFAF poster mag was.I know it's a great idea in theory because anything that gets the 2000AD name around can't be a bad thing but the storys are so cheesy and brainless that it might do more harm than good.I've spent years defending comics to friends who reckon it's all aimed at the lowest common denominator, with my main defence being that they haven't read any of the good stuff ie.2000AD etc.Now that argument doesn't work because they just come back with the fact that they read it in the Metro or Rock Sound and it was dumb.Thing is I have to agree with them because I know that if my only experience of comics was the funeral for a friend strip then I sure as hell wouldn't come back for more. It's a shame too because I reckon 2000AD and the megazine are better than they've ever been.Again I'm new so apologise if this has all been talked about in a previous thread!

I've had one printed, can't remember what the issue was but I was fawning over how I never thought horror could be done successfully in a comic until Necronauts rocked my socks off.Got a Judge Anderson action figure for my troubles too.Had one printed years before that too but I put my little brother's name on it for some bizarre reason. Oh, and this is my first post here so hi!

Had never read Invasion before the EE so was pretty interested (and yes at first glance I thought it was Rogue Trooper).Thought it was okay for a bit of fun but stretched over the EE got pretty dull pretty quickly, and devoting a chunk of the new EE to it is a bit extreme.Quite enjoyed Savage though. As for reprints, when I was younger I loved Deathbowl (think that was it's title?!?) with the armed dinosaurs racing. There was one moment when a dinosaur swallows one of the riders and one of the cameras so the audience can watch him being digested. Disturbed me then and has never really left me! Might have been mince mind you but would like to see it again to find out as it was part of the issues that got binned years back, anyone else remember it?

When Starr gets stuck behind the old lady on the walkway in the airport I nearly pissed myself with amusement.

Oh Preacher! Could go on about that comic for days so I'll just keep it brief and say it's probably the best thing I've ever read.I'm always amazed by the dialogue, every single line just seems perfect, kind of like the comic equivalent of Tarantino. It also hooked my girlfriend and now she reads my comics all the time so I guess it must appeal to more than just your average comic fan too. Loved the ending personally, thought it was perfect, and The Punisher is incredible right now thanks to Ennis!

I thought it was a great comic, and while I was reading 2000AD my little brother was getting LOTF, very fond memories of it.

Whilst reading this thread I kept my mouth tightly closed, that's how irrational my fear of ingesting insects is, I even worry I might swallow words about them off the internet!!!
