Specifically, your horror comic strips. This year's issue of the free, downloadable horror comic looks as if it may be running a few pages short, (and now a couple of people have had to pull out from contributing due to health issues), so I've extended the deadline slightly and gone fishing for any suitable stuff any small pressers may have done. If you've drawn a horror strip that's a few pages long and would like to see it within Hallowscream's pages, then you can submit it to merjeagles@yahoo.co.uk ( or ghastlymcnasty@backfromthedepths.co.uk ) by the 28th of this month, (October). We're happy to use previously published work, (as long as you own the copyright).

If you want to take the opportunity to promote any other (scary) comics you're involved with, you can stick a page in to do that as well and if you can also submit any single pieces of horror artwork by the 28th and we'll chuck that into the mix too.

Previous issues of Hallowscream can be downloaded as pdfs from www.hallowscream.net or viewed online at https://issuu.com/malcomix

The new issue becomes available to download on the 31st, and physical copies will become available at a later date.

More submission info can be found here... https://malcolmkirk.blogspot.com/2022/05/hallowscream-phantasmagorical.html

Help! / What was this scary comic strip in?
17 December, 2018, 02:44:17 AM
Got a vivid memory of a story, not sure where it appeared, so just on the off-chance somebody knows...

It was the early-mid eighties. I think it may have been in a magazine which sometimes had comic strips in, rather than something that was fully strip-based. Some kind of teen/kids pop-culturey lifestyle magazine or something. I keep thinking of TV Tops, (perhaps when it was just Tops), but don't think it's that, because I remember that being quite comicy.

Story goes like this...

Car breaks down in the middle of nowhere. People in the car are a married couple and their horrible brat of a son, (possibly has curly blonde hair but don't quote me on that). They go to a nearby scary old house, owned by a scary elderly couple. Car couple ask scary couple if they can use their phone. While they are waiting on tow/repair truck / AA van, bored bratty son wanders up to dusty attic. Inside the dusty attic there is an old doll house. Inside the doll house there are three figurines, one of which is smaller than the other two. Bratty son takes the two larger dolls and breaks them beyond repair (think he snaps at least one of them in half). He then takes the smaller figure and jams it so firmly into the chimney of the doll house that no one will ever be able to get it back out again. Parents find him and tell him that they are now leaving.

Some time afterwards, the little boy is asleep in his own bedroom at night. He is awoken by the screams of his parents. He calls out, asking what's going on. Suddenly an invisible force comes in through the bedroom window, whisks him outside and jams him in the chimney of his house. The story ends with someone, (possibly a fireman), saying that he's stuck so tightly in the chimney that they don't know how they'll ever get him out.

Any ideas?

General / Nope, Thrill-Mail droid, that's wrong.
28 April, 2016, 05:54:59 PM
Contrary to this week's Thrill-Mail, Anna Ford was not the first female newsreader in the UK in 1978, she was just the first one at ITN.

Angela Rippon's even in Prog 1, for drokk's sake... Use yer ram-sticks!

(Actual first Female UK newsreader was Nan Winton, back in 1960, if you're wondering.)

I'll be sticking up the general submission guidelines within the next few days, but before I do that, does anybody fancy having a go at the front cover for the next issue? A4 dimensions. You've got until October. It's a small press thing, available for free online, so you won't be getting any money, but you'll obviously keep the copyright to the artwork.

It can be any kind of random freaky monster beasty, (or beasties), or ghosty thing, (or things), but something a bit different from what's already appeared would be preferred. Here are the previous covers...

You can get a better look at them HERE, where you can also download the issues.

Don't worry about doing the text/logos, I'll add them later.

We'll probably also use any artwork we don't pick, inside the issue as part of a 'gallery', so if you've got more than one idea you want to render or other scary drawings just lying around, you can send them too.

Email to merjeagles @ yahoo.co.uk (without the spaces).
