Quote from: Fortnight on 02 March, 2024, 05:13:09 PMI spent the last two days racking my brain trying to remember this title, and it's a comedy, but your description reminded me of this: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090434/
It's set in a castle on a lake, with drac & frank, it's a TV series and the date is about right.

I got the impression that's what Eamonn was originally referring to...

Quote from: Eamonn Clarke on 27 February, 2024, 08:15:03 PMWas it by any chance a European co-production with dodgy dubbing?

Don't remember ever seeing the live action version but I got the original book out of the school library almost four decades ago. Seem to remember it was a direct, (unofficial, presumably legally dubious), sequel to the old Universal horror films, with a werewolf in it called Larry Talbot, described in such detail that you just thought "yep, that's Lon Chaney Jr".

Mid-eighties biologically, I think, (not counting any rejuve treatments).

She's certainly been shot in the head.

Quote from: Magnetica on 28 February, 2024, 12:43:49 PMShe might not even be dead. The way it is drawn the bullet is grazing the left hand side of her head. I'm assumimg it been drawn as a side on view from the opposite side to be deliberately ambiguous.

Yep. That's what I thought.

Quote from: Richard on 28 February, 2024, 12:49:11 PMI hope not, that would be such a cop-out!

But less predictable, and if she dies and everything resets back to "normal", that would arguably be a far greater cop-out.

Quote from: rogue69 on 27 February, 2024, 11:25:42 PMI was just reading the other day that Ukko was a Indo-European God of the Sky, Thunder, Lightning & Harvest in the same vain as Thor in Norse Mythology
Ukko is also held as the most significant god of Finnish mythology & is Finnish for 'male grandparent', 'grandfather'& 'old man"

Not quite the Ukko we all know and love

In Finland there is a town called Raahe. Raahe has a museum. In the museum is what is thought to be the world's oldest surviving diving suit, (18th century). The diving suit is known as "Wanha Herra" or "The Old Gentleman", is made of leather and has feet resembling traditional Finnish footwear.

This is what the suit looks like...

...which may seem somewhat familiar...

Quote from: Le Fink on 25 February, 2024, 08:23:01 AMI think the main motivation for these particular panels (broken leg, noosed naked woman, face punches) is more homage to Hammer/giallo films myself, rather than storytelling, or getting in the victim's head. They're all from the perspective of the aggressor, or a voyeur, rather than the victim and are intended to be fetishtic.

Ah, we're just reading it differently. Fair enough.

I'm not getting the fetishistic thing myself, but I suppose it could be argued that both ways of reading it are equally valid, given that the entire story is about the intersection/parallels of real and fictional horror.

Don't ask me, I was about to comment the very same.

Actually, I was just going to post the word "How?", but it amounts to pretty much the same thing.

Not even a surprise. I was expecting him to have "fallen out of a window" eventually.

My first name's already the name of the Souther H.Q. (if you completely misspell and mispronounce it in a horrendous fashion).

Good lord... It would seem my digital telly gets more attuned to detecting holographic technology utilising alien lizard-folk and/or A.I. generated imagery when it's really windy and the outside aerial is wobbling about.

I'm not saying aphantasia isn't a drawback for visual artists, ('cos it stands to reason it would be), but there's a surprising amount of really quite accomplished artists with the condition, including the bloke who designed Disney's Little Mermaid and Beast from Beauty and The Beast.

Inversely, there's a lot of folk with a very vivid mind's eye who can't draw for toffee, (or any other confectionery of their choice), in the same way that you can't just stick most folk down in front of a landscape with a bunch of paints and expect them to produce a masterpiece.
