Well a very significant week in the tournament as we enter Round 3 after the seemingly unending Round two. We're down to the last 128 thrills and from here the quality will step up, but the choices start to get harder. But the lovely thing about this round is there is still plenty of room for mis-matches...
For a while I thought the two ties today might be the best I would get with kinda derby clashes... for a while... here we have two denizen's of Mega City One's underbelly coming head to head. Lenny Zero, who's seen off The Scrap and Pussyfoot 5 so far, lacks the class of the Man with the Mouth; the bloke who broke Satanus and Lilly Mackenzie, the one and only Pinstriped freak Max Normal.

Just reply in this thread naming your favourite thrill of these two series at the beginning of your post (or use Bold tags so I can spot it easily) and say what you like about these wonderful stories after that.
Match ends early on the morning of Saturday 14th May and the winner gets a place in Round 4 (of 9!!!).
What on Earth is ALL of this? (https://forums.2000ad.com/index.php?topic=48011.0)
For those that need 'um and can be bothered to follow 'um there's some simple rules (https://forums.2000ad.com/index.php?topic=48011.msg1070150#msg1070150)
Any questions, just ask as ever - and have FUN
Gotta be Max Normal - I'll take arch dialogue over smug double-crosses any day.
Max Normal
I'm going with Lenny Zero. Max, for me, is a good supporting character but not one to carry a full tale: I've already forgotten his last story apart from the art whilst with Lenny, for all the smugness and unpleasantness the stories are a good dose of seedy MC1 and I do enjoy a clever twist.
Lenny Zero
Agree with Barrington - Max is better as a supporting character.
Lenny Zero.
Lenny Zero was always far too smug (as a series as much as a character) but still a solid read, and with some fantastic art. But, frankly, it can go to hell for "sexual assault for lawks". That was one of the biggest flubs I've seen in 2000 AD's entire history.
Frankly, I'd have picked Dry Run or Junker over Lenny Zero because of that, but at least Max Normal is actually quite good.
Max Normal although I do agree I prefer him in a supporting role.

Yep, you've said it in a nutshell.
Lenny Zero.

Lenny Zero.
Smug? Maybe.
Witty? Yeah.
Entertaining? Hell yeah.
Lenny just annoys me.
Gotta be Max Nornmal.

I have no memory of this, explain? I knew there was something that put me off LZ.
I was going to reread the whole of lowlife now they are much cheapness in the 2k shop,,,
The last couple of stories were a bit lacklustre for me, but for Diggle and Jock's MC1 is perfect. Lenny Zero.
Max is better as a supporting character (unless drawn by Casanovas, sadly impossible now) but Lenny Zero was just plain awful. So Max Normal gets it.

Issue 1798 was the one that pushed many people into ick territory, me included. There was a heated discussion (https://forums.2000ad.com/index.php?topic=36754.0) about it at the time.
Fictionalized violence, sometimes played for laughs, is really a cornerstone of 2000 AD. A shag-gas should surely be less offensive than brutal violence, no? Or, at least, shouldn't all the other violence be equally abhorrent?
It's all about context. And it's all in the thread. I'm not sure we really need to go over that old ground again, do we?
I wasn't on the forum when that discussion took place, but fair enough - I can just go read the thread.
It's not a fun read, frankly. I'm not saying I'll nuke a discussion here, note; it's just that thread got quite heated in a manner that's unusual for this forum.
I think I can see whose winning here, think I can but its not straightforward to call with a quick eye scan. Today's votes could decide this I think. Either way its a good tussle.
I was going to vote for Lenny Zero, as I seem to recall it being a much better strip than Max Normal, which was the backstory you didn't know you needed.
But, I had forgotten about that scene. Now that I've been reminded of it, I remember how tasteless it was and how uncomfortable it made me feel.
That whole thread discussing it was before I joined the board, so I hadn't read it before.
So given that, there's no way I am going to vote for it. And if I did in an earlier round, that was without taking that scene into account.
So, Max Normal it is.

So two things.
1) I'm glad my eye scans aren't very accurate I had Lenny Zero down as winning this and while the early stuff was fun it started to grate on me in the later material. Max Normal's most resent series has the opposite effect, its elevated a fun distraction and good supporting cast member to another level.
2) Last day votes did indeed decide this. When I did that eye scan it was in fact level and so once again those last day votes really counted and gave
Max Normal the chance to twirl his brolly in Round 4.
