Nice one DrRocka, that's some voice you've got there. Good idea for a thread, too. Can I have five?

1) I always liked Smashing Pumpkins' 1994 cover of Depeche Mode's Never Let Me Down: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oipMgVLFJxI

2) I didn't even know Shudder to Think's rendition of So Into You was a cover, originally by Atlanta Rhythm Section: www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWjx8m6OOnU

The original is nothing like it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpPdLb69-qk

3) Does Jethro Tull's version of Bach's Bourée count? Well, it should: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2RNe2jwHE0

4) Pantera's version of The Badge originally by Poison Idea puts some beef on the original, which is still great.

Poison Idea: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVsKk_6Tg6Y

5) Rage Against the Machine's rockified Renegades of Funk, originally by Afrika Bambaataa:

Uniquely ace original: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yYzakWz3JxU

Definitely Not Mister Pops

Hayseed Dixie do some excellent cover versions, I saw them live and they rattled through Bohemian Rhapsody in about 5 minutes, it was excellent. And then they did a whole hill-billy Mozart number. Those guys put on a great show
You may quote me on that.

DrRocka

Gotta love Chris Isaak rockin' up Cheap Trick: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ymEJN6U000&feature=related

and Willie Nelson lettin' out some Pearl Jam is ruddy luvverly: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ow-Cx9IX4So

and can't bit a bit of Eddie covering The Boss: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvMFdAtsRTg&feature=related

ps, cheers, Ned!

I really love crowbars cover of led zeppelins no quarter :- http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fasyYUPxCD4
loveforstitch - Does he fall in love? I like a little romance in all my movies.

Rekaert - Yes, he demonstrates it with bullets, punches and sentencing.

He's Mega City 1's own Don Juan.

One of the many cracking b-sides on Therapy?'s particularly bountiful singles - a cover of The Membranes' 'Tatty Seaside Town'

NapalmKev

Sepultura have done an amazing cover to The Prodigy song 'Firestarter' which can be found on the Kairos album. And for all you non-metal types there's a blistering cover of a Napalm Death song (Control) by Agoraphobic Nosebleed. Or if you prefer there's a cover of Soungarden's 'Rusty Cage' by Johnny Cash.

(sorry no links, my iPhone is shit!)

Cheers  :)

Cash's cover of Hurt, together with the video, is one of the most affecting things I've ever seen.

The Inappropriate Cover has long been a staple of the goth scene, and many bands have contributed to the oeuvre in style:

The usually execrable Him doing a fine cover of Chris Isaak's Wicked Game

The Dreadful Shadows cover Twist In My Sobriety by Tanita Tikaram

The Merry Thoughts' surprisingly effective cover of Will You by Hazel O'Connor

Rosetta Stone's version of Heaven 17's Temptation

And, of course, the Sisters of Mercy's mighty cover of Jolene by Dolly Parton

(The Sisters link is the best quality recording of that song I've ever heard, BTW.)

Cheers
