Hey - no fair, you're getting rid of spam faster than I can report it!

(and you're giving me a 20 second limit between spam reports)

Arh I remember the days when being a womble on Wimbledon Common and picking things up was a thing of innocence...

Argh, now you've done it. You see, I have a little song I sing to myself everytime I hang up the washing on the rack in our kitchen- and every time i find myself singing it i get the urge to post it to the Board. Much like the "Judge Dredd theme tune" i had as a kid ("Judge Dredd, Judge Dredd, his costume is a brilliant red", etc- which prompted a board member to draw me a picture) this one is firmly fixed in my head as the "washing song". And now, by mentioning wombles, you've brought about its manifestation here.

(To the tune of The Wombles theme song)

Underpants, overpants, pants that are free
Pants left on Wimbledon Common for me.
Making good use of the pants that we find
The pants that the everyday folk leave behind.

It's like playing whack-a-mole today. I've no idea what the hell is going on.

The mods have been very efficient in their removals, which means I haven't seen most of this spam, but before it disappears, I had to share this beautiful, poetic explanation of why Russian women make the best wedlock components.

I see another thread has been hijacked
When I die, I want to die like my grandfather who died peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming like all the passengers in his car.

Old age is the Lord's way of telling us to step aside for something new. Death's in case we didn't take the hint.

You've got to ask yourself if you really want to firmly into russian the baby birds?

Without wishing to sound paranoid, is it coincidence teh latest forum member is Sim.Bot:lol:

More seriously, how do they get by - thought you had to be granted privileges to post to stop that sort of thing?

IndigoPrime

Not sure how this is happening. In theory, any new member only has the means to post in a very limited number of threads.

I guess a few things to check would be (in order of probability):

- Forum software: is it updated? Is it secure?
- Admin accounts: are they all secure?
- Server: is it secure?

At the bottom of here it says SMF 2.0.15, but a quick check of simplemachines.org says that the newest stable release is 2.0.17.

I'm no tech wizz, but I'd say the "firewall" needs repointing or somesuch.
You may quote me on that.

Similar issue being discussed here back in 2015: Admin approval of new members issue.

TL;DR - it says to change the passwords on all admin. accounts. (And to make sure your forum software is running the latest version.)
