On the topic of women in Dredd;

Earlier in the thread, Jim posted a link to this reviewer's Dredd thoughts. This is her review of Looper, and it can be boiled down (for our biased eyes) to "I wish Looper was more like Dredd"

RED LETTER MEDIA: LOOPER & DREDD

Nice to see that somebody gets the subtext in the movie and that its not just a straight forward no brain shoot-em-up.

Dredd: A Brilliant Portrayal of Women in Comics

That's a really good article!

And Cam Kennedy was sitting behind her, talking during the film. I wonder if he was kicking the back of her chair, slurping his juice loudly through his straw, and phoning his missus to ask whether he should pick up some milk on the way home too?

Comedy writer/actor Jay Baruchel (Knocked Up, Goon, the forthcoming Robocop reboot) seems to have rather enjoyed Dredd...

A very well written and lengthy article on Dredd 3D: 5 Reasons Why It Flopped At The Box Office

Radio NZ ran a very positive review this morning, also gave a good mini-background of 2000ad.

The review's at the bottom of the list of files: (should be accessible outside NZ, apologies if not):

Disappointingly, Australian Empire have re-run Chris Hewitt's "great movie, three stars" review from their UK counterpart. Wouldn't a flamin' journo from the country that gave us Mad Max and Chopper have had something interesting to say about Dredd?

Aye Sauchie, that review was one of the most annoying that I read but only because of the rating they gave the film!  Everything seemed very positive about the film so I would have expected the reviewer to offer more criticisms to explain why he awarded the film three rather than four stars.  Frustrating!

The reviewer actually later admitted (on the Empire podcast) that he should have given it four stars.

urgh! When that Empire Review was first out, I wasn't happy with it as I think that reviewer was pointless to repeats bring up The Raid etc... and now they still use it in Aus? Not fair!

Well, I have to applaud his honesty then.  I don't understand why they can't update their reviews if they feel they were too harsh / kind to a film though.
