I suspect the wholesale robbery of Nemesis by Warhammer 40K may have muddied the waters on that score... I have no inside info on this, but GW have deep pockets and a small army of lawyers, so it may well just not be worth the effort having that particular fight.

Talking of giraffes (i.e. things that go over one's head) - that went over mine. Warrior-monks in full-body armor at war with all alien life - check!

Funnily enough, I did recognize when Khronicles of Khaos borrowed space marines back again:

Given how derivative Games Workshop has been, I sighed in dismay* when they rebranded their products to make it easier to build a legal fort for themselves. You know - the space elves (Eldar) being renamed Aelderi, orcs being renamed Orruks etc. Mind you, their style has lost its way and it's more like Tabletop WoW now. Bring back the Halfling Hot-Pot, I say!

*Big nerd emotions, here!

except gw can't get away with the use of the term "terminator" because the terminator movies exist and the name space marines aren't used in any of chapters i read, i'm only talking about nemesis the warlock in main not the heresies, and the custodes are the ones that were inspired by the terminators by that i mean the helms in particular, and they also copied judge dredd in one of their lod games laserburn where they copied the judges designs for one of the factions.

If by "can't get away with" you mean "have been using for decades".

Yeah maybe? I'm not sure, cause my English is all over the place and I don't think much when I type long paragraphs

I suppose if you don't know what you mean then I've not got much chance.

All the best!

GW and 2000ad were very close back in the old days, before they turned into a corporate juggernaut. I've got rules somewhere for judges and fatties in Bloodbowl.

40k took influence for loads of stuff when it was created and has since been ripped off in return - that ABC Warriors story is super blatant - but I never really made the connection between it and Nemesis before this, its obvious in hindsight. I doubt they'd be able to litigate with success but given their past history I suspect they'd try, so maybe it is for the best that a Nemesis wargame or something isn't done.

That was/is my suspicion... "On balance, is the likelihood of GW being dicks about this high enough to make a mess of the project?" It's one of the grossly unfair things about big corporations being notoriously litigious — they don't have to win, they just have to make it sufficiently expensive/inconvenience for the other party that they don't bother in the first place, and the merits of their IP claims never actually get tested.

That was a cheeky in-joke by the Walker droid, who designed the Imperial Rottweilers back when he was on the GW staff.

Printed in White Dwarf, methinks.

That's interesting. I knew Kev Walker had worked for GW and assumed he'd brought a heavy 40k influence over with him. I seem to remember all the Imperial guys in that book is brother-captain this and sergeant-superior that though which is far more 40k-y than the old Nemesis Terminators so I guessed Pat Mills was riffing on the whole 40k Imperium vibe throughout.

Back to the original question, what sort of game would Nemesis really be suitable for?
I'm not sure a wargame where one side is the Terminators would be such a good plan. A videogame where you play Nemesis would be cool for blasting legions of faceless racists, but for a tabletop game, I'd go for something where you play as Purity, trying to defeat the bad guys whilst relying on Nemesis to help you - when he can be bothered..

Something Baldurs Gate-y, with options to either play 'pure' or as a 'deviant'.

You could base the game on the Dice-Man adventure...

QuoteYou are Nemesis the Warlock in The Torture Tube
You're piloting the Blitzspear through the travel tubes of Termight in a race against time to save Purity Brown from a gory end at the claws of a gloating Torquemada.
