Hey, I liked Blackhawk!

Admittedly, I was going through my early teens D&D phase then, and liked all the fantasy stuff in it, but in its defence it had some cool Bellardonelli art, Zog the mental dwarf, creepy stuff like the Soul Sucker and freaky stuff like the giant mushroom forest where all the main characters basically went on a big psychedelic trip.

Wasn't it Colin MacNeil who actually drew the latter half of the series, including the Alpha death episode?

Hey, I quite liked Shako!

In its defence it was...erm....that is, I mean...

Oh hell, I just liked the gore and seeing some big bastard of a polar bear rip peoples' arms off every episode.  I was eleven years old, for crying out loud...

>What Blackfriars bridge story...?

Steve macManus, when he was editor, sometimes used to take extra work home with him.  So depressed was he with the prospect of spending an evening reading and re-writing yet another GFD Rogue Trooper script that he's supposed to have thrown the script off Blackfriars Bridge on his way home from Kings Reach Tower.

This famous piece of 2000AD legend is hinted at in the Thargshead Revisited story in prog 500.

Everything gerry Findlay Day wrote supposedly ended by being completely re-written by the editors.

Alan Grant was supposed to have got so fed up of re-writing Rogue Trooper that this was what helped make up his mind to quit adn go freelance.

And then there's the famous Blackfriars Bridge story...  :)

So, for the record, you're telling us that you're not on any kind of medication at all?

I mean, if every there was a more likely candidate for the happy pills...

And, if you aren't, then, frankly....why not? ;->

Look out for 2000AD's Golden Jubilee 'tribute' to our wonderful monarchy coming out in Jubilee Week this June...

Heh.  That's exactly what I was going to say as well.  David's never been shy about telling people his honest opinion of their work - and many people have the scars to prove it - so you can take whatever he said at face value.

Andy Diggle also tended not to pull his punches very much.

Then don't forget that each prog also doubles as a free thrillsucker repellant device!

Except some of the dodgier ones from the Mackenzie period, of course, which actually attract the pesky little buggers...

Heh.  Like it.

But Dredd with a three-day growth of facial hair?

"Sloppy comportment, Reno.  You're a disgrace to the force.  Two months  West wall guard duty punishment for you, creep."

I remember Alan Grant and David Bishop doing a scene-by-scene commentary on the Dredd movie (showing it on a big video screen and then pausing it every so often to comment on it) at one of the last London UKCACs.

Alan obviously had an axe or two to grind with the film-makers, but a lot of what he had to say, including ways in which he would have improved the given script and storyline, were rather enlightening.

For instance, during the fight between Mean and Dredd, Alan suggested that, if the scriptwriter had had his brain engaged in any way at this point, he would have somehow got the two of them to team up, dumping the irritating Fergie in favour of Mean as Dredd's sidekick.  Much more interesting, yeah?

Then at the end of the film, Dredd would set Mean on the ABC Robot while he went after Rico, and we'd get a really potentially cool-sounding Mean-ABC Robot fight.  A lot better than what we got, right?

Got to say, if this is the kind of even minimal input that John & Alan could have brought to the finished project, then Lippincott is is quite clearly a fucking idiot to have turned them down.

Do yourself and all of us a favour and just piss off, scojo.

From past form, we know exactly how much your apologies are worth - about as much or less than your regular messages that you're leaving the board every time you make a fool of yourself in yet another argument.

Or is this sudden change of heart just because you're worried about getting kicked off the board for real again?
