Prog / Prog 2343 - Frozen In Fear
29 July, 2023, 06:21:16 PM
Made time for myself today and read my Saturday Prog.
Dredd is great. Not at all enamoured by Portals & Black Goo. Partly it's the name. Is there a pun there I'm missing? While I'm happy to have Hearne & Shuck back it seems rather a similar vein to what precedes it in the prog and could have been better timed. Hershey is also great, but contrary to the majority of this forum's members, I'm actually enjoying Azimuth most right now. If it had been its own thing it could have been even more but for sheer storytelling and eye candy it wins this prog for me.
Azimuth > Dredd > Hershey > 3riller > Black Goo.

Megazine / Meg 450: Skeleton Crew

Read the text article promoting Philip Bond's Geezer, then went to the site to see about ordering. They wanted $90 to ship a $10 book to the UK! (Oh and the $16 tax). Is this Brexit at work?

Stewart Kenneth Moore chatting to John Siuntres on Wordballoon about his MK-ULTRA book. Not finished listening yet but John is well into it. Rob Williams has been on recently too.

General / Alex Ross Paints Dredd

For those who haven't seen this on Twitter yet this morning
What's the chance Tharg can talk the man around with this as the cover, like he did for the other week's Dermot Power piece.

Is it just me or has everyone's avatars disappeared? Very strange to read posts without seeing the usual images and being able to make the immediate connection to the author (obv I can read their names but you know what I mean)

As seen on FB:
A few weeks ago, copies of 2000 AD Prog 2128 did not reach subscribers in good time. Worse than that, some copies arrived well after Prog 2129 landed on their doormats or even not at all. While it would be easy to blame this on Thrill-Suckers or the scheming Dictators of Zrag, it was actually due to a huge error made in our distribution chain. This was completely unacceptable and we apologise to subscribers on our contractor's, and Rebellion's, behalf.
To make it up, we are giving 50% off an order from our webshop to 2000 AD print subscribers who should have received Prog 2128!
The 50% off discount voucher can be redeemed against a single basket of products on the 2000 AD webshop. In order to redeem the voucher, 2000 AD print subscribers simply log into your online account with the email address associated with your subscription, add the products you wish to purchase to your basket, and proceed to the checkout. Once you get to the "Review Order" screen, under "Discount Available" you should see your "50% ONE-OFF SUBSCRIBER DISCOUNT" voucher already applied to the items in your basket, ready for you to proceed to payment. You may also save the voucher for a later order, by simply selecting the 'No voucher' option.
(Terms and conditions apply: voucher offer applies only to 2000 AD print subscribers whose subscriptions were active week beginning 22nd April 2019. Subscriptions, limited edition items or t-shirts are excluded from the voucher offer. The voucher discount will not stack with other offers. The voucher is valid until 01/01/2021, and can only be used once.)

Books & Comics / Scream & Misty Special 2018
26 July, 2018, 11:31:28 AM
Bleeding Cool reporting that 2018 is bringing us a second Scream and Misty special for halloween.

QuoteFollowing the success of last year's fright-filled outing, the Scream & Misty Special returns for 2018! Two of Britain's best loved comics have reunited offering an anthology of brand new tales, guaranteed to terrify and entertain you this Halloween! Featuring more treats than tricks, including the further misdemeanors of Max the computer in The 13th Floor, ghoulish goings on with the undead WW1 pilot the Black Max, zombie and vampire DNA combine to create a brand new horror sensation called Decomposition Jones plus a tomb full of other tales from the realms of the Mist.

Other Reviews / 2000 AD Sci-Fi Special 2018
19 June, 2018, 09:31:12 AM
Happy to receive this year's Sci-Fi Special in the post yesterday! I went for the Hershey cover although I am unable to find a credit, either in the issue itself or online.

I'm about halfway through at this point, I enjoyed the Dredd tale, which with Babs Tarr's choice to follow the Stallone costume design certainly matched Beeby's attempt at ruffling Squaxx' feathers (as she admitted on the Thrillcast). I also noted a layout credit to J.Wyatt. Tarr worked from Cameron Stewart's layouts for Batgirl but I think Motor Crush is all her - perhaps this was to speed up production as much as anything.

Tyranny Rex looked good overall, reminding me of Rian Hughes' work from the 90s but the storytelling could have been better.

The Rogue story hit the spot, I enjoyed that one, and the Future Shock was good too, but Darkness Descends had probably my favourite artwork so far.

Ill update with the other strips when I'm done!

I bought a big chunk of progs during the birthday sale but this one is not in stock at the 2000AD shop.

Anyone got one to sell?

Many thanks!
