I thought for a minute that you were a fan of Adam and Joe's show on Radio 6 and the 'STEPHEN' thing had spread into new areas!

Hello by the way

COMPETITION TIME!!!!
Having neither the talent of many here, nor the charitable genius of Gavin my calendar window will have something a little different and I don't just mean spelling and grammar errors. I'm running a little competition. I even have a little (and alas I do mean little) prize. The first person to correctly name the 8 creators in the picture below wins the prize of no. 3. The original is an A5 convention sketch by... well that would be telling wouldn't it.

For a bigger picture go here

A couple of the artists aren't 2000ad related so I've left signatures in to help (one is therefore blindingly easily). One isn't even an artist so I've left the signature and a hint.

Anyway good luck to anybody who cares to have a go.

I bit the finger of Dave Yom, the lead singer of The Jesus Lizard at a gig at The Leadmill Sheffield. He stuck a mike in my face I was very drunk and panicked and before you know it for the rest of the gig I was getting strange looks from a bemused indie legend.

My friend James once didn't throw a beer over Miki Lush, however she thought he did. When she got to the end of the song (what a pro) she went ballistic at him. He made matters worse by waving his pint around to show that it wasn't him which she seemed to mistake as a glib salute to his antics. A bouncer intervened and to be fair believed James and the gig continued. Always prefered Emma Lush anyhoo.

There's a number of drunk at gigs stories, being rude to Shampoo and being escorted from the backroom of a Free Kitten gig by the bass player from Pavement (whos name escapes me) after meeting Thurston, Kim and the then baby Cocco. He was very polite... but anyway too many more to go into here...

Film & TV / Re: Robin Hood - 2010 - Teaser

When I first heard about this it was called 'Sherwood' (I think) and was about the Sherriff of Nottingham trying to maintain order against a group of bandits and thugs stealing tax money and thus leaving much needed support to farming communities unavailable. That sounded really interesting.

This, mah, not so much!

- Colin's stunt doubling for Edmund.

Now see this was my favourite bit of filming of the day. Steven was after someone to get dressed up in Minty's uniform and do some falling down bits after Edmund had left. I don't think anybody wanted to scream 'Me me pick me' and so we all shuffled a bit until lo and behold Steven suggested me. Well the other folks didn't get a chance to make any other suggestions or ideas as in a flash I was like nerding out "Yeah yeah I'll do it me me yeah yeah" and practically dragging Dan away to get me into costume.

It almost went pear shaped as Steven being the total gent he is was worried that I might get hurt falling on my arse. The next few sentences were probably a little unintelligable as I scrambled to make sure they fully understood it wasn't a problem and since I used to play in nets I was used to throwing myself around. I stopped short of pointing out to get to do that I'd have jumped from any number of the tall structures in the area.

The end result was me getting into the uniform getting back to the set and rather rudely all but demanding someone take a photo in my excitment. I then tried to fall on my arse as convincingly as possible which only serves to teach me how difficult seeming easy things are. I was personally much happier with my close-up hand and foot dragging work and will happily stand-in for any artor in the future if they need any... well close up work of someone dragging their hands and feet after being shoot. I know its a niche market and all but hey!

I was really please after my complete excitment died down that Commandoforces and Large48 got to try out the uniforms as they had travelled about 76769 miles to be there and probably deserved to do it more than me! Still it would seem the chance to be an arse falling double brings out the selfnerd in all of us... well me then...

Other Reviews / Vanguard
15 December, 2009, 08:38:28 AM
Well I'm going to guess that this one wasn't too popular 'cos I've just checked Barney and there's no Book 2 and it left me assuming there was another part at least.

Frankly for me, but I suspect not too many others, this is a crying shame. I loved it. Obviously Colin MacNeil's art bouys up any strip but I really enjoyed the story and would have loved to have seen more. Maybe the redressing a victorian naval drama in Sci-fi dressing wasn't seen as original or compelling but I loved the way it recreated the pressurres of a military environment and life onboard the spaceship seemed strangely real to me.

Ok is wasn't perfect, Vanguard herself could have had a little more too her, the mutany seemed to occur a little too easily but this story felt like set up and for that reason both those faults can be forgiven.

Come on Tharg surprise me and give us book 2.

Steve Yeowell can do no wrong.

Its fairly hard to argue with that sentiment and I've read 'Skrull Kill Krew'!

Well my Mum's claim to fame is being knocked on her arse by Paul McCartney in 1963 outside 'Fox's' in Heswell on the Wirral but not realising until she had crossed the road to see her speechless, agog friends.

Mine isn't as good as that.

Going from left to right (God I hope I get this right!)

Darren (who was Judge Dredd at BICs), 'udge Palmer', 'Commando Forces', Edmond Behn, Greg Staples, Nick (who came up even though he had to make a fast escape to get to his sons Christmas Play down South somewhere), 'Large48', 'Colin_ynwa' (who is the only one of the perps, many will be disappointed to hear, who you won't see getting killed alas).

Missing is 'Banners' who was outside at the time dealing with serious head wounds.

Well home from the Minty shoot and what a fun day it was. Everyone involved seemed to have a blinding day and have to say its looking more and more exciting the more and more bits I see.

The folks involved are all not only very pleasent but also incredibly passionate about the project. A freezing day, for many (not me lucky!) a good while of which was spent laying on cold concrete somehow was incredibly good fun. Ed Dehn is a real gent and Greg Staples is a scarely good Dredd, even with his posh Yorkshire accent.

Steve and all his crew, Dave and other Steve are really fun, welcoming and nice to work. They all worked so hard and the costume and props from Dan and Barry were superb. The Kovaks Gang looked suitably grim and grizzly and all died with great gusto. I'm really excited to see footage when it comes. For the time being however when the rest of the boarders get home (they travelled from so far afield, I just hopped on the no. 69 bus!)who are all as nice in real life as they are here, I'm sure they'll post a host of the photos which I'm likewise looking forward to. I'm afraid I only had my camera phone with me so have next to none to share - sorry.

If anybody is able to get to any of the other shoots when they are arranged I can't recommend it highy enough.

Grand day out.

When I was 14, The Horned God was the only bit of female nudity I could get, outside of The Sun.
So now, female nudity in Slaine always makes me radiate with a warm glow of sentimental nostalgia.
Into a sock.

You really should have looked in more hedges.
