News / Wow this is fantastic
20 July, 2002, 12:41:04 AM
This is not related to 2000AD but I have just ordered a Discarray from www.discarray.com and it's great. It displays the actual discs from your CD collection, most of them have artwork on the front and you can display 8, 12 or 16 CDs. It really looks cool above the Hi-Fi. I don't know why I am posting this here but it's a new product and I was so pleased with it that I thought I would help them out by advertising it. Just click on the link below.

News / 2000AD No 2 set to hit ?500
17 June, 2002, 05:23:28 PM
I know I've brought this up before but I've just been out bid on on ebay for 2000AD No 2, once again! (I have a mint copy with the free gift already, but want one as an investment) A non-mint copy, with free gift sold yesterday for ?310 on ebay. It won't be long before this hits ?500, once the two new movies come out. I just thought that I would mention this to see if anyone from the Prog 534 club would like to change sides. There is only one club and that's the prog No 2 club (with free gift) Incidently, the record paid on ebay for Prog No 2 is ?365.00.

General / 2000AD 1208

I have been trying to find a copy of 2000AD number 1208 for over a year now, but no joy (Thanks for your help Blackblood, but I was outbid on ebay) Does anyone know the actual reason that this comic is so hard to find? Is it true that there was a problam with the printers and there were only about one thousand copies run?

General / 2000AD No 2 sells for ?365 The sequal
30 April, 2002, 01:56:23 AM
OK I know that we flogged this to death on the last outing, but I really like to wind Blackblood up.

For those of you who didn't follow the last debate. Just over a month ago, 2000AD number 2, in mint condition, with free gift, sold for ?365 on Ebay.

A few people were of the opinion that this would price back progs out of the reach of your average reader.

I was almost alone in my opinion that this was ridiculous and that there would always be lower grade progs available to everyone.

The reason I am brining this debate up again, is because that when we finished the last one, it ended, I think with Blackblood proclaiming that this was a one-off. Ha ha, not so I say.

On the 21st April issue number two, in a lower grade condition but still with the free gift sold for ?255 and issue three with the free gift sold for ?235.

Anyway, just thought I'd get a few licks in while Blackblood was still down!!

General / 2000AD Sells for ?365 part Three
27 March, 2002, 01:31:31 AM

I'm sorry to keep brining up the same subject but I won't rest until I get my point across. I feel I need to respond to Blackbloods last rant!

Fair enough Re: Judge Dredd doing for England what Superman has done for America. Maybe what I should have said was that he has far and away the potential.

On to my main point and to quote Blackblood:

"I'll fucking quit reading the day 2000AD becomes "collectable" - I don't want the damn thing to be out of the reach of average readers, or have thousands of issues sold to people who are going to bag & board them to sell on eBay at ridiculous prices."

You must have a stiff neck looking up at the many things going over your head.

You won't have to quit reading when 2000AD becomes collectable, since it is already very collectable and you're still reading. My original point was that the earlier 2000AD's were printed on such poor quality paper and finding them in good condition is so difficult, hence the mint copies are selling at high prices. There are plenty of the earlier issues in less then average condition and if you are reading 2000AD for readings sake then you will only be paying ?1 - ?2 a copy. As a reader you won't be excluded from buying back issues to enjoy the content, it does not matter how much Progs 1, 2 & 3 are going for.

Furthermore and to really bore the pants off anyone who has bothered to follow this debate, Bagging and Boarding old issues of 2000AD is NOT A BAD THING! firstly and most importantly they are being preserved for antiquity. If you just read them and let them rot no one is going to be able to enjoy them in the future. In the 2nd place if they are bagged there is only a piece of sellotape between you and the comic, bagged does not mean buried.

Collectors of anything are preserving a piece of history, I do not understand Blackbloods fury, unless.... he really is Blackblood! I am not really Tarantino!!

General / 2000AD Number 2 sells for ?365 part two!!
26 March, 2002, 12:58:02 AM
I don't plan on dragging out this debate much longer but I would like to add to my earlier point. The whole point of having the comic complete with the free gift is that is how it originally came, the nostalgia would add to the value. Also I think that we are missing the point in focusing on the free gifts. The value is also in the condition of the comic. The 2000AD No 2 that sold for ?365 and the No 1 that sold for ?230 were (according to the seller) in perfect condition. This is also why they sold for such a high price. If you compare Uncanny X-men 94 and Uncanny X-men's first annual, they both sell for three, four or five hundred pounds in very good condition, but this leaps to ?1,000 in perfect mint condition as they are so much harder to find. This is moreso for the early 2000AD's beacuse they were not collected around the world like the American comics and they were only preserved by a few in the UK, you have to search high and low to find reasonable copies, let alone near mint. In comparison I don't think that ?365 is to high for a mint copy of 2000AD No 2. Considering that this issue introduced Judge Dredd to the world and with the two new Judge Dredd movie's around the corner and also Rebellions Judge Dredd game, along with their current promotions and 2000AD's 25th Birthday, this comic has a long way to go before it settles down in price. If anyone outthere has a copy hang on to it, prices are going to go through the roof when the Americans catch on. Before I go and if anyone is still listening, another copy of 2000AD No 1 has just been put on ebay and bidding starts at ?220, lets see if the earlier bids were glitches, I doubt it!

News / 2000AD No 2 sells for ?365.00
22 March, 2002, 06:52:51 PM
I was bidding recently for 2000AD related merchandise on ebay and was amazed to see that 2000AD No 2 in mint condition with the free gift went for a final bid of ?365.00. Also number 1 in mint condition went for ?230.00. Both final bids were on 20th March 2002. So look after your collections everyone, they are worth a small fortune.
