What! excuse me! Chile was a democracy, and as has now been offically confirmed by the US govt, it was undermined by the CIA backed coup to get rid of the democratically elected President.

The Americains backed Saddam for many years as a balwark against Iran, at the time few westerners worried about democracy in Iraq then, much like Saudi Arabia just now.
The Americans have 'intervened' in over 70 countries since 1945 mostly to destablise and or change govt to ones that will tow their line.
