On a recent trip to an actual High-street establishment I treated myself to some CD's.

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here. HMV Exeter have a small section devoted to Floyd re-masters. I'm not a huge follower of the band but I do own Dark Side... which is very good and The Wall, one of my favourite albums by any band. Anyway Wish You Were Here is a very good listen, especially if you Toke on the Good stuff!

Rotten Sound - Suffer to Abuse. Limited to 2500 copies and hand numbered. I was surprised to find such a limited edition item in a music shop, this sort of thing would normally by ordered direct from the website, or something. Only 7 tracks on the album, it's a good listen but lacks the intensity and brilliance of their first release, Cycles.

Cavalera Conspiracy - Psychosis. Outstanding album! A far cry from their first release, Inflikted, which I thought was OK at best. First track is called Insane, which is an absolute belter. Highly recommended.

Radiohead - I might be wrong, Live recordings. Already owned but the disc had somehow broken a while back. Live versions of a selection of tracks from the Kid A and Amnesiac albums. Like Spinning Plates is a particular favourite and sounds very different from the original version.

Cheers

A trip to the cinema made me realise that I miss Queen having not listened actively to them for thirty years. All my cool mates said I should stop listening to them.

So I'm working my way through the albums, in order, on Spotify. My goodness I had forgotten how utterly joyous Queen, Queen II  and Sheer Heart Attack are.

Be excellent to each other. And party on!

I did this a while back when I ... obtained copies of all their albums. It was immense fun... until I got to Jazz and it starts to go downhill. The prom and fun of those first six records are great.

I lasted a few albums after Jazz when I was younger.

The track that really made me laugh was "Death On Two Legs" that opens A NIGHT AT THE OPERA. I had always found Freddie spitting insults at somebody backed by rock guitars to be amusing but googling it, I discovered the four minutes of verbal abuse is dedicated to one of their old managers. Which made me laugh even more.

I'm just posting the last song I heard on the radio, which is pretty pathetic. Hackney Colliery Band cover Toto's Africa*

https://youtu.be/iqWNOUOxjPI

* Did we ever discuss Weezer's Africa cover, which took the same approach as Gus Van Sant's shot-for-shot remake of Psycho? Is that even a cover, or just an A-list version of one of those old Top Of The Pops albums my mum had, where session bands performed almost indistinguishable recreations of chart hits? And did anyone see SNL's Weezer sketch (featuring Matt Damon and Kenan from & Kel)? Like all SNL skits, it doesn't quite hit the mark, but I thought it was clever to use Weezer as an example of the kind of band it would be ludicrous to care about *that* much. I like a few of their songs, but I wouldn't push Rivers Cuomo out of the way of a bus.

Listening in abject horror at this appalling joke(?) band - and I'm not even a huge fan of Zeppelin, but I'm offended on their behalf - arguably what goes around comes around, what with their lifting of other peoples stuff uncredited, but even so.  I mean, most bands are inspired in some way or another, but this is ludicrous - can anyone actually like this Mike Yarwood act?

To restore Christmas sanity, looking forward to Sharon Van Etten's new album:

Here's an eclectic mix of the new tunes that have been on my playlist over the last year https://www.mixcloud.com/DJSintec/2018-the-shape-of-things-to-come/

It's a pretty diverse range of stuff with everything from thrash metal to ambient via various flavours of techno and industrial, there's even a bit of synth pop in there. All the tracks are from records that were released last year (with the exception of the Coil/Black Light District one which was such an important reissue I felt it deserved inclusion).

This week, I have been mostly listening to Engel's latest album "Abandon All Hope".  It's not the most optimistic of titles, but as a metal album with great tunes, it is just bliss.  Of course I am totally biassed as they are one of my favourite bands, but yeah, if you happen to like metal witha a bit more meloday and less growly vocals, they're worth checking out.

Boss music from Travis strikes again, makes everything I do around the house feel more epic than it is.

and when I need things to feel interesting I put on this one.
