Emin: "I won't sleep with stupid people"

Well lets just hope, for her sake, that the smart people shes after don't have the same standereds.

I've always been very sceptical about modern art, ever since I was a little kid and heard about some guy (can't remember who it was now) who specialised in painting canvases in a single flat colour. And *selling* them!

I was about ten when I heard this, and swore to myself that when I was older I'd do the equivalent in writing terms; I would publish a "modern art" novel with no words in it. Never got around to doing it, though...

Mike: print it at your own expence, you'd probably make a bomb. I'd buy it for noivelty value. It'd be the perfect christmas gift, no one couldn't like the text.

you know, i get seriously pissed off when people go 'all that modern art is crap'.  it's so close minded and foolish.  i would have loved to have seen that cut up cow, and i'm sure there must be some reason for the messy bedroom, i just don't know coz i never saw it.  like everything in life there is good and bad, trick is to find the good.

p.s never heard of tracy emin, but she sounds like a right cow.

p.p.p.s.  what's with the daily polls, didn't they use to be a weekly thing.  not that i don't like it on a daily basis.

I find modern art to be like pretty much every other kind of art- I either like it or I don't.

I'm hard pushed to see the relevance of a pile of bricks or an unmade bed though- but I put that down to personal taste.  My personal and (dare I say it?) professional opinion of an unmade bed as a work of art is that it's shit.  It doesn't take any real skill and people will read into it whatever they want to read into it.  The artist can sit back and nod sagely if somebody accidently stumbles accross an observation that makes it look like anything other than what it actually is: an unmade bed.

From the point of view that art is supposed to make people stop, look, talk about it and talk about the person who created it, it's a work of genius.  In all other respects, I think it's shit and I have a far better version of it in my own house.  I call it 'Scruffy Bastard's Workroom'.  The collection of used mugs with things growing in them is particularly eye catching.

:)

Pffft...

We big shot boarders with profile pages can great a poll when ever we want, it is therefore up to us how often there is a new poll.

i like it.  gives us something to talk about.

My old buddy Roderick Lynsey (mad and foul-mouthed but harmless)once told me a story about how he went to a show for modern art and got in trouble with one artist because he was walking over a load of bricks and rubble that was actually her "art".

God bless him.
