General / Speaking of Luther Arkwright...
01 March, 2003, 09:02:58 PM
I've never read it, but is Luther anything like the Luther in Nikolai Dante?

General / PSU

Was PSU ever mentioned before Judge Edgar entered the scene? It's a pretty big division to hide under the carpet for so long.
Then again, I've been surprised in the past at how major Dredd storylines have evolved around things I didn't realise were mentioned in passing years ago (e.g. The Pit).
Anyway, I wonder how it's faring out under Niles? No problems so far, it seems.

General / Cartoonists / illustrators rates
28 February, 2003, 06:08:40 PM
I'm posting this here because I'm guessing there is a few illustrators and cartoonists, or people that know them, posting on this board. What I'm wondering is, does anyone know even very roughly how much a cartoonist or illustrator would charge a magazine (a smallish magazine) for an illustration, a caricature or a spot cartoon?
I know this is very much off the topic of 2000ad, but I got an encouraging e-mail from a magazine today asking for rates, and I'm looking everywhere for help.
Cheers!

Remember that? It used to crop up in Dredd stories all the time, then it was the name of something or other in the much-loved space girls. Anyone know what it meant? My guess is 'totally f*cked up', which translates roughly as 'totally fucked up'.

General / Mike Carey
26 February, 2003, 08:12:25 PM
Is Mike Carey who writes Vertigo comics the same bloke who did 13 and Carver Hale? If so, is his Vertigo stuff any use? Judging by the Hellblazer thread, he seems to be handy enough with a keyboard.

Er, you didn't happen to find that Eagle Apocalypse War reprint yet, did you? Cheers!

General / Praise Grud and pass the ammunition
22 February, 2003, 10:50:50 PM
I have an uncle who is a missionary Jesuit priest who has been doing Grud's work in Zimbabwe for nearly 20 years. As far as I know, he has a masters in Philosophy and is also a black belt in karate. I met him last year for the first time since I was a kid, and almost the first topic of conversation was whether I still read 2000ad, and how he always used to enjoy reading Judge Dredd when he visited our house. He then started explaining how Marvel comics characters were better developed than DC ones (had to take his word on that, I don't really read many non-2000ad-related comics).
Just thought I'd tell you about the least likely 2000ad reader I know.

General / show this to your head wrecking NYC producers
20 February, 2003, 11:08:05 PM
That heading isn't my own, but it came up as soon as I typed 's' on this computer, and I liked it.
Anyway, what I'd like to ask is, has anyone ever read scojo's scripts? I've only read a couple of pages, and am so far neither very impressed nor, I must say, absolutely appalled either, but I'm wondering are they actually any good in their entirity?
So any one that's read them, all prejudice aside, what did you think? Sorry to bring up the 's' word, but I am curious to know.

General / Painting a target on my forehead.
19 February, 2003, 11:45:44 PM
I'm sitting in an internet cafe, and the best-looking girl I have seen in quite some time is sitting opposite me. So I'm just posting this so I can stay here longer.

Go on, rip the piss.

Just two Christlike questions today:
1) How is Dix-I (as in Rogue Trooper) pronounced? Dix - One, Dix - Eye or Dixi?

2) What is a parcheesi board? I came across it in a Stephen King book, and it's been melting my brain for weeks.

Thanks.

General / Forgive my poor internet skills but...
17 February, 2003, 07:21:43 PM
I really want to buy the Eagle reprint of Judge Dredd featuring the last five episodes of the Apocalypse War. Does anyone know how to advertise for it on the internet? Is everything over the internet bought by credit card? Or what?

General / Christ! I'm worse than I thought
10 February, 2003, 10:25:46 PM
I'm in an internet cafe (in a suburb I don't live in) that I've only been in once before for about 20 minutes, which was before Christmas sometime. Now, I was just about to sign in to this website and I realised that I am signed in already. Just how many computers around this city, i wonder, bear the bastard cookies of Jayzus B. Christ?
Why, anyone could be signing in as me! THIS might not even be me, for all you people know! What an absolutely apocalyptic revelation, eh, readers?

General / Test
09 February, 2003, 09:02:23 PM
Scuse I. My computer hasn't been allowing me to click on 'seperate windows' links, therefore I haven't been able to post messages. If it works this time, has anyone any idea why the computer does this sometimes?

General / Battlefield Bulger, indeed
30 January, 2003, 06:23:54 PM
Now, I know not many agree, but I liked Big Dave, me. Like I said before, it was doing the South Park sick humour thing before South Park did it itself, and before Preacher too.
That said, I can't help but feel glad that 'Battlefield Bulger' (mentioned in T.P.O.) never made it to print.  Jesus wept, now that would have been sick. I genuinely think a public outcry of Brass Eye-sized proportions would have occurred. Definitely, a lot more of the 'moral majority' would be disapprovingly aware of 2000ad, and the tabloids would have gone to town on it for weeks.  A Dublin magazine, for instance, printed a skit cartoon last year featuring the two killers from case in question, and was absolutely savaged by the press.  And that was about ten (?) years after the murder happened, and in a different country.

For everyone concerned, I think Alan McKenzie made the right decision.

General / The shite death of Balor
26 January, 2003, 04:15:42 AM
Sorry if this has been covered here already, but was anyone else deeply disappointed with Balor's death?
Even though he looked completely different in every story, he was a bloody good character (his episode with ragall in the fomorian vomiting pit was bleeding class), and then his death scene ends up being completely identical to that of Quagslime, the tax collector, except a bit harder to make out.  Quagslime's death was extremely powerful and exciting; the first sign of the Red Branch's revolt. Balor's was shite. Does Pat Mills think we'll forget the first time he tried it? Does he not know stories are reprinted? Well he may try and stop Sl?ine fan fiction. I know what he's up to.

General / Apocalypse War - last few chapters
20 January, 2003, 09:53:14 PM
I am missing the last few (not sure how many) chapters of the Apocalypse War, and have never read them. Anyone know if they were ever reprinted, and if so, where? My war was over as soon as Dredd took over the Sov ship and set a course for East Meg 1. I really, really want to see him blow it up.  Nothing like watching an entire mega-city die to warm the cockles of your heart.

General / My return shameful confession
20 January, 2003, 09:48:27 PM
Hi. I have done very little posting on this board over the last month or so, but before I promised a fan strip by me posted on the internet by the 25th. Now sorry, folks, but while it is well underway, it will not be posted by the 25th. (I have been up to my eyeballs in other stuff, inc. Christmas, a holiday abroad, and now jobhunting).
What I will do, however, is post the first page up by the 25th and try and do the rest as quickly as I can. For what it's worth, it's looking alright so far, if I do say so myself.

General / The Change in Dredd
08 January, 2003, 01:33:42 AM
Having recently read the Apocalypse War and Judge Cal, I have not quite finished spouting on about them yet.  There is a huge difference between the writing style of the two: Judge Cal still seems like a kids' comic ('We think you're really scrotnig, Chief Judge!', Dredd snapping chains in a fit of rage, etc), whilst the Apocalypse War seems to be for a more adult, film-going crowd (complex Cold War military theory, judges sacrificing civilians to keep out the red menace, etc). When did this change come about? Was it sudden or gradual? Tell me! TELL ME!

General / My Christmas present to me
28 December, 2002, 10:15:20 PM
I haven't been around these parts in a while, but I hope you all had a merry Christmas, and will have a happy New Year.
Anyway, I had a stroke of luck before Christmas: I went into a bookshop, and found loads and loads of old comics for 1 euro (69p stg.?) a go. There was no 2000ads, but loads of American reprints of old stuff, including Sl?ine in Sky Chariots, Rogue Trooper in his earliest stories, Judge Dredd in Judge Cal, the Midnight Surfer, Block Mania and the Apocalypse War (neither of which I had read before). So basically loads of the good stuff from the early days, and none of the muck. Most were coloured in those old fashioned colouredy dots, which worked surprisingly well for Dredd (it's the way it used to be coloured in 2000ad, after all), but not for Sl?ine at all.
The only thing I'm pissed off about is that I couldn't find the last few episodes of the Apocalypse War and the first few of Block Mania, but all said and done the Apocalypse War is my new favourite Dredd epic (I kind of know the ending anyway). One thing bothers me, though: when Dredd launched the unsuccessful TAD strike was he planning on blowing up the entire world with East Meg 1? Cheers, Dredd, drag us into it too why don't you.

The reason I ask is because I want to do a 2000ad fan strip, but am a lazy bastid; and so have put it off for about six months. Not saying it'll be anything too spectacular, but I'll try and put it somewhere on the Internet by the 25th of January. Now that I've set my own deadline, I might just get up off my hole and do it, so if anyone remembers by then (which is asking a lot, I know) please hold me to that or I'll never get the fecker done.
