If anything , were you to ask me - and I'm sure you all would - I'd suggest that Week 3 of Round 2 is even stronger than Week 2. Some really big guns, some real contenders for the semis, even possibly taking the title, they won't all be like this!

A John Smith thrill with Colin MacNeill art should provide stiffer competition in Round 2 for divisive thrill Hershey. Will it be enough to satisfy the naysayers though? Remember when I say Hershey this only applies to the Williams + Fraser post Chief Judge series:

Hershey - more info

Vs

Strange and Darke - more info

Just reply in this thread naming your favourite thrill of these two series at the beginning of your post (or use Bold tags so I can spot it easily) and say what you like about these wonderful stories after that.

Match ends early on the morning of Sunday 6th February  and the winner gets a place in Round 3 (of 9!!!).

What on Earth is ALL of this?

For those that need 'um and can be bothered to follow 'um there's some simple rules

Any questions, just ask as ever - and have FUN!

Hershey - what I liked about this series is Simon Fraser's unique new style he uses.
When I die, I want to die like my grandfather who died peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming like all the passengers in his car.

Old age is the Lord's way of telling us to step aside for something new. Death's in case we didn't take the hint.

The latest Hershey stuff didn't do much for me, and S&D is suitably intriguing - is Strange somehow related to Mortis?

Strange and Darke.

Magnetica

Dark Jimbo

Judge Mortis as a gumshoe in fedora and trenchcoat, versus an old woman bullying a mentally-ill boxer? I know which I'd rather read.

Strange and Darke.

Strange & Darke was indeed both strange and dark, and for a Smith story, really rather easy to follow.
Hershey is less easy to follow, but there's something about the craft at work behind it that strikes me as more impressive, and I suppose it helps that it's based around two characters with long histories in the Prog.

But this isn't an easy call! Maybe it comes down to what the stories are actually about - and I think in the end I'm more delighted by weird satanist/demon goings-on in future Wales than rather commonplace crimelord goings-on in future Central America.

Strange & Darke

Barrington Boots

Going for Strange and Darke too. There's an awful lot to like in that strip, and whilst there's been some stellar work from Simon Fraser on Hershey there's too much to dislike about the story itself.
You're a dark horse, Boots.

Blue Cactus

IndigoPrime

Funt Solo

Two thrills I've enjoyed immensely - and both with great art. I have to use my "if I could only choose one for a new series starting tomorrow, which one would it be"?

Strange & Darke - for all that one protagonist is a skull-headed impossibility, it's still more grounded in reality and less "superheroes in disguise" than Hershey. I don't like superheroes in disguise in my prog or Meg. I don't mind superheroes not in disguise, like Zenith. Despite how good Hershey is, it's still just a little bit Brit-Cit Brute. No cape yet, so that's good.
