Hi all. I'm Blake. I'm from the UK, 27 and have been a fan of Judge Dredd - and in-turn 2000AD - for the last decade really.
I was a comic-geekazoid when I was a kid and would pick up a comic most every week. I loved Batman, and the Avengers...but now and then I'd pick up a Judge Dredd 'comic' because the art work interested me (I judged things alot upon aesthetics as a kid).
One month I picked up some-kind of bumper-pack omnibus collection of Judge Dredd stories with this image of Dredd on the front....

....the archetypal stoic hero of Dredd fed into my love of mysterious superheroes and wandering mythical western heroes, and the stories were surreal and intrigueingly weird in places.
Judge Dredd was always there in my periphery as I was growing up and one of my collection of idolised superheroes. Then of course the movie came out in 1995 or whenever it was. Even then I knew that the movie version was different to the Judge Dredd issues I had picked up.
Since then I have been through my wild teens and university life and come out the other side in my mid to late 20s becoming just as much of a geek as I was when I was a kid. I have been collecting the Judge Dredd Case Files books so I can catch up on the history of Dredd, and I am very much looking forward to the newly adapted Dredd movie in Sept.

You should be cautious, though, about describing Dredd as an "archetypal stoic hero". He's a fascist.

Ok please forgive me this....a very naive and potentially stupid question, but this is the first forum like this I have sign up to post on =
I can't seem to create new topics, or create a profile for myself and add an avatar etc when I try and login to update my user profile it says I am not allowed to access that section. My account has been ok-ed and my account activated - is it because I need to make a quota of posts before I can do certain things?

Welcome aboard! I have no idea why you're having these forum problems, but no doubt a moderator will be able to fix you up. Dredd is definitely a stoic hero as well as being a bit of a fascist pig. I'm looking forward to the new movie too - here's hoping.

Yep, sorta. It's not actually a fixed quota; one of the mods has to promote you from "New Arrival" to "Member" manually, so you basically just need to hang around and chat for a bit to prove you're not a troll or a spambot. You should be able to post in the general 2000AD subforum and the off-topic chat, just not the film or review sections yet. (The forum has had problems with persistent trolls in the past, unfortunately.)

Do not be worried about some of the comments from no more "potential" perps but from true perps. I will clean the streets of them.
As for the de facto Joe Dredd = fascist, I will only say that the worst enemy of the so called "Democracy" is the "Democracy" itself. Some Judges are really well welcomed to remember to a majority of citizens that democracy is forbidden for your security. Do as the Judges order you and your life will be assured.
Any transgressor will be sentenced to death with immediate execution. A 10 cred fee will be charged before for the Resyk process. Thank you citizens.
