Title: Forum’s Favourite Thrill - Bob the Galactic Bum vs Project Overkill - Round 1 He
Post by: Colin YNWA on 02 November, 2021, 06:27:49 AM
We're into our second week of the tourney now - so our thrill-critique-drivers should be well and truly warmed up - what delights will we have to tease them this week? Well some are ... interesting... shall we say...

Okay, okay I know already - but if you go look at the thread linked to below that explains all this I make an excuse as to why BtGB is here... look if you don't approve just vote for Project Overkill and we won't have to worry about it again!

Which most rattles your thrill-receptors:

Bob the Galactic Bum - more info (http://www.2000ad.org/?zone=thrill&page=profiles&choice=BOB)

Vs.

Project Overkill - more info (http://www.2000ad.org/?zone=thrill&page=profiles&choice=OVERKILL)

Just reply in this thread naming your favourite thrill of these two series at the beginning of your post (or use Bold tags so I can spot it easily) and say what you like about these wonderful stories after that.

Match ends early on the morning of Friday 5th November and the winner gets a place in Round 2 (of 9!!!).

What on Earth is ALL of this? (https://forums.2000ad.com/index.php?topic=48011.0)

For those that need 'um and can be bothered to follow 'um there's some simple rules (https://forums.2000ad.com/index.php?topic=48011.msg1070150#msg1070150)

Any questions, just ask as ever - and have FUN!

Lack of knowledge of either of these means I abstain once again.

Bob, on the basis that I vaguely remember it. That's a low bar.

I think I've read Project Overkill but remember nothing about it. Bob's a weird one but hey, it's Wagner, Grant and Ezquerra.

Bob.

BOB was lucky to have that creative team.

I've wanted to read Bob the Galactic Bum seeing that it's Wagner & Ezquerra. The only reason I know of it's existence is from a commission published in Ezquerra's 2000AD coloring book.

However, another non-vote for me this round as I've read neither.

This vote is going the wrong way! I've got no problem with Bob the Bum being eligible for the tourney, its weird hybrid existence is some kind of hilarious punk experiment. But it's one of the least funny stories ever to drop from the pens of Wganer, Grant and Ezquerra. Project Overkill, on the other hand, is a fantastic slice of 1970s paranoid action thriller with gorgeous Gibson and Redondo pens flicking ink all over the place. Seriously, it's one of the better one and done series in 2000AD's history.

Come on, K. Gosnell fans! Rally round.

Don't know either, but I'm going for Bob based on the creative team.

I would have sworn Bob wasn't in 2000ad!

So Project Overkill, as you'll never never persuade me otherwise.

EDIT: So it was reprinted in the Meg. Does that mean Preacher counts? And that's not meant to be facetious. Is there a difference between Preacher and Bob and something like Al's Baby? All creator owned after all...

Yeah acknowledged mistake BUT I allowed this one to carry on they very dodgy ground of Asbo being a unique element of the meg reprint... I make my excuses here

I wasn't having a go! (I just wondered how far Preacher might go). You're doing a sterling and commendable job.

Oh I didn't think you were, after all I'm not a bar man guarding his spoons. Just felt it was a reasonable question and others would be thinking te same, so worth flagging the (poor) excuses made!

Well there's a bit of a rally from Project Overkill here after a slow start for the thrill - will it continue today on the final day of voting? If it does who knows how the result will go when I count up in the morning, so get um in...

Bob the Galactic Bum has nice art but is painfully unfunny. I find it fascinating that the incidental humour in the average Wagner & Grant strip is hilarious yet when they try to write a straight up comedy it falls flat. The first Bogie Man might be the only exception.

Project Overkill I can only vaguely remember from the old EE. It was quite of its time but it least it was a genuine Thrill!

Project Overkill.

Loved the DC Bob, but subbing in 'Asbo' for Lobo just didn't work.

Project Overkill it is, an overlooked "B' story, with great art.

VOTING CLOSED

Well damn Bob got himself a good lead, bu then Project Overkill started to pull back, and pull back and pull back. Bod was still getting votes but Project was killing ther second half the tie... but it wasn't enough to over turn the blistering start and

Bob the Galactic Bum

Held on to storm into the 2nd round.

Such a shame as Project Overkill is a bit of a forgotten gem. I mean its far from perfect but its a fun effective thriller and damn that art is great.
