The great artist Ian Kennedy has just passed away aged 89. A great loss to the 2000AD universe and the British comic world Best wishes go out to all his Family
Oh no that's horrible news. I'm so glad he seemed to get to so many conversations and events over the last few years so he hopefully knew how loved his work was.
Love and respect to his family. RIP Ian Kennedy.
I was fortunate to meet him at the 40th bash and once more at the Glasgow comic con.
He was a great artist & true gent
Condolences to his friends and family RIP Ian Kennedy
There's a video interview with him where he explains that he's never been happy with how he draws hands - and I showed that to my animation students to try to get across the idea that, despite you not thinking your work is perfect, it doesn't mean that you can't come to terms with that and move on successfully.
RIP Ian Kennedy
Aw. It was always lovely to see one of the old greats still making new art. What a shame he's gone. But I suppose 89 isn't a bad innings.
Sad news.
So sad to hear this. Incredible talent and a lovely guy.
Aircraft will never be the same again.
He was very good. Does anyone know when he did his last work for the prog?
Very sad news. He was the artists that brought Dan Dare to life for me. What a loss.

He did the cover of prog 1961:

Ah, man. Legend. RiP :(
Ian Kennedy was the reason I got into 2000AD. He drew the cover of the 1984 Sci-Fi Special and at the time I was reading his Dan Dare in Eagle. Deciding that if 2000AD was good enough to have Ian drawing for them, a purchase was made, and the rest is history.
RIP Ian, a true talent of British comics.
Aww very sad - condolences to his family, his friends, and his fans.
Was just reading Johnny Red over the weekend and admiring his beautiful variant covers. RIP Ian.
Terrible news and condolences to his family. The only two commissions I've got are by Ian. Lovely fellow.
the best cover artist in the history of british comics.
r.i.p.
Aw, sorry top hear that.
Great artist, and by all accounts an authentic gentleman.
Was glad to have met him at the 40th bash.
Someone gifted me a copy of this a few years back, and I heartily recommend it:

Very sad to read of Ian's passing. A fabulous artist. May he RIP.
Hoping he ascends to glory in a rocket ship of his own design, he really did draw the best planes.

Sad news. Nobody drew spaceships like Ian Kennedy
One of the best, he truly will be missed.
A great tribute to Ian with a lot of awesome images he brought to life:

Very sad to read of this. RIP Ian.
Ian Kennedy had a distinctive style of art that seemed to leap off the page at you. His Spaceships and Planes were particularly striking and often half-lit from underneath to emphasise the sleekness of the design. Well, he's now travelled the path we all must go ourselves at some point, but in a hundred years, comic fans will be marvelling at Ian Kennedy's artwork.
It would be good if Treasury of British Conics could do some Ian Kennedy Dan Dare graphic novels, but presumably that would depend on the Dan Dare Corporation not being twats about it.

That will super
One thing that amazes me about veteran comic artists like Ian Kennedy is how they adapted from drawing accurate renditions of C20th combat planes and vehicles to conjouring spectacular spacecraft from their imaginations. Ian was one of the absolute kings of this.
Funny how small details sometimes make an impression, but the one thing I always notice about Ian Kennedy's art are the pronounced shadows underneath his character's noses, right over the philtrum.
I wish you hadn't told me that, now I'm going to notice it all the time!
One of the greats.
Remember being utterly in love with his Dan Dare run as a kid, which led to me to following his work throughout.
Rest in peace good sir.
