General / The Meg - the first two volumes.
24 March, 2002, 05:10:23 AM
I've just bought the first two volumes of the meg (plus the first 7 of v.3) for ?27.50 and now have lots and lots of groovy new (to me) Dredd to read.

Any suggestions as to where I should start? America aside what are the classics? Do you recommend reading them in story blocks or issue by issue?

And this is a more specific question, there's a fifth anniversary article that says Red Razors was later destroyed in 2000 A.D. Do they mean literally the character was killed or the strip ruined? It wasn't clear.

Thanks.

This months S.F.X. magazine - I don't know the issue number but it's got Wesley Snipes drawing a swrod on the cover - has a feature on '2000 A.D.' It's got a joint interview with Pat Mills and thingy - you know the current editor, as well as a 'Top Ten Thrills'. Number one should be obvious but the order of the rest might surprise you.

It's only half a dozen pages but it's also got stuff on 'Blade II' and 'American Werewolf in London'.

The article is not mentioned on the cover so I thought I'd let people know. It's been on sale for a couple of weeks so the next one's due out soon.

So what if only one man agrees with me on this. He's the one making all the decisions.

Bringing this strip back and ammending the language are great decisions.

Alan, I'm so pleased with this that I'm almost prepared to forgive you for the the screams of frustration that the end of 'NeverLand' caused. Still, only 12 months to wait now...

On the other hand I think it's right and just that they edit the story for language. I'd recommend the same for several of 2k's greatest hits...

Which disc did you think was "incoherent gibberish"? I've heard them all and they are all pretty good. I'm a big fan of 'Big Finish' and am eagerly anticipating these.

The aliens killed in the earlier episodes were all ocnnected to the empire, to whoever wasn't sure.

I'd really look forward to another series.

Curiously the reviewer for S.F.X. magazine loved the Dredd ones and din't like the Stronty one. Which is odd.

Hopefully Adrian Salmon will do some. He did a Dredd cover for 2000A.D. recently and has worked on the covers for Big Finish. I love his art work. Very stylised and blocky. In a good way.

I don't know about the freebie disc but the Big Finishg Who C.D.'s are available in the U.S.A. Find an outlet for them and you'll likely find the Dredd C.D.'s in a month or two. Big Finish themslelves ship internationally by the way.

Pual, According to John Ainsworth over on the Doctor Who website that is www.gallifreyone.com they'll be single discs. Their single disc stories have retailed at ?9.99 in the past. Should they be doubles they'll come in at ?13.99. They also do very good subscription deals where you pay for five and recieve six or thereabouts.

General / Publisher interview.
14 February, 2002, 11:55:15 PM
This months 'Comics International' - 143 -(available from a comic shop near you today) has a four page interview with Jason Kingsley the publisher of 2000 A.D. and the Megazine. It goes into deatail about the business behind the mags and the upcoming reprint scheme. Worth ?1.25 of your money I'd say.

Well, according to the interview in this months 'Comics International' (?1.25 from a good comic shop near you!) they are aiming for new readers but they are also aiming at fetching back lapsed readers on the theory that they are an easier target as they already know what the product is.

As for the cost of the complete back catalogue you're no where near at ?600.
?25 for 10 issues.
?250 for 100 issues.
?2500 for a 1000 issues
plus ?750 for the remaining 300 issues makes it
?3250 for the complete back issues.
